Yukimura made a gamble to play Niou. Since that did not work out, it's his responsibilty, at least so far as who ought to be on the receiving end of the Sanada slaps. Sanada doesn't slap people for losing in obviously hopeless games (he didn't slap Kirihara losing to Fuji), and from his point of view he obviously don't think Niou was going to win, so at some point Yukimura must have stepped in and say 'trust me this is going to work'. Not saying he was wrong but it's still his responsibility to go against the conventional wisdom and fail.
This is nonsense.
Re-read the story Phatron before you throw big pieces of texts and theories.
Yukimura stated that Niou had already told him all about his Illusion abilities.
Do you really think Yukimura would have played him without knowing Niou had learned Illusion?

For the canon thing, there are a lot of random side materials for POT and obviously they should not be taken completely seriously but it's not like it's a different person who drawn those. Yukimura is shown to have immunity to Inui's drinks from the same source. It's not official but there's nothing unusual if this turned out to be true. In another side story at the black jacket camp most of the MSers got turned into zombies and Sanada slapped Jackal for slacking off as a zombie and this returned him to normal. The point is that Sanada will slap anyone for breaking the rules whether it's Yuikimura or zombie Jackal so while the incidents described probably never happened in canon POT, you should not doubt the fact that Sanada absolutely will slap Yukimura or a zombie if they broke some rules, and Yukimura definitely qualifies for being slapped for losing to Ryoma. I say Yukimura taking revenge on Sanada because he's slapped as a joke, but I don't think it's unreasonable to assume Yukimura was slapped for losing to Ryoma, because that is the Rikkidai way.
Sanada handed Yuki a towel at the end. After seeing TnK, do you think ANY MSER blamed Yuki for losing?
Yukimura wiped the floor with Ryoma, but after TnK, Ryoma would have wiped the floor with EVERY other MSer.
Unless you think Sanada is a retard since he hasn't been shown as one in the series, why would Sanada have slapped his friend who lost to freaking TnK if he didn't actually hit Marui/Jackal or Niou for losing??
Makes no sense Phantron.

Sanada absolutely isn't going to go cry to Yukimura that since he lost to a kid before Yukimura must avenge him. Sanada obviously understands that winning is still more important than his pride, which is why he agreed to Yukimura's advice in the first place, so there's no argument about Yukimura attempting to 'avenge' for Sanada. That also goes directly against what he preached about winning is the only thing that matters.
Irrelevant. Its crystal clear that SANADA is the reason why Ryoma was even able to play.
Sanada then tells Yukimura he wants the boy crushed. I wouldn't say Sanada is crying for his friend to avenge him at all, but for the pride of Rikkai he wants proper win for the team.
It seems Sanada wouldn't have enjoyed winning by default.

Yukimura purposely waiting for Ryoma is not unlike Ochi giving the tiebreaker to Atobe/Niou when Kabaji jumped in (the point should be replayed and under no circumstance should Atobe/Niou team get the point for using 3 guys to score). There's nothing honorable or noble about such an act. It's just plain stupidity. It's not like Yukimura sent an assassin to knock out Ryoma and then later decided that was dishonorable so he got to wait. You're not obliged to do any more than what the rule says.
How are they the same? Your logic is stupid.

Ochi let the point go because as far as the rest of the audience was concerned, Ochi/Mouri would have won if that 3rd player didn't intervene for the opponent.
Of course he was arrogant for letting it go, but it wasn't stupid since if your opponents are exhausted whilst you're nearly full of stamina, and they needed a 3rd guy to secure a point, why wouldn't you let it go since the next set was won 6-0, had Niou not become Atobe and Synchro'd which was just crazy and unexpected by the whole camp, Ochi/Mouri would have comfortably won.

In Yukimura's case, he just wanted to fight fairly for the title of the Middle School National Tournament in a Singles match.
How is arrogantly letting the point that YOU WON YOURSELF, the same as wanting to fight fairly for a trophy with the score tied at 2-2 by other players?

How is that stupid? Was Sanada stupid for wanting to go all out with Rai and not even caring that his legs were gonna give out?
Since after his opponent lost, Sanada fell to the floor.
Was Sanada stupid for that? Of course not.

You need help with your logic Phantron.

---------- Post added at 06:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:32 PM ----------

+ another for Yukimura is 100% at fault for the loss. If Yukimura didn't take Kintarou match offer and take the win, Rikkai would have been the Champion.
How?
Why is Yukimura at fault for wanting fight fairly and earn the trophy?
I don't see how you can criticize Yukimura for wanting a fair Singles match for the title.
Something that Sanada and Atobe obviously supported.
I think all the MSers supported and respected this. There was no "WHY ISN'T THE CAPTAIN ON THE COURT?? WHY DOESN'T HE ACCEPT HIS WIN??" from any key characters in the audience.

I can't think of any self-respecting character in PoT who would do different than to what Yukimura did besides perhaps Mizuki Hajime.
None of anybody on here's favorite characters would have done any different.

I think it's funny what makes Rikkidai and Sanada unique is that they don't come up with excuses for losing and yet we're seeing every conceiveable excuse out there so that Yukimura doesn't get slapped for losing. You don't see Sanada saying, "But the chance of that Cool Drive landing was only 1%! How could I possibly know he's going to get this lucky?" No he asked his team to slap him hard because he failed his team on a game he was in a position to win. Yukimura failed his team in an even more spectucular way as while Ryoma had only 1% chance of winning (it's implied if the Cool Drive didn't succeed he'd have lost due to running out of energy), but Ryoma has 0% chance of beating Yukimura because he should have been disqualified.

The reaction of the audience is mostly irrelevent because the audience, in general, are dumb in POT and have no idea what they're talking about to begin with, but if you want to go that way, then let us start from the beginning. The reaction of audience to Sanada using Rin is 'he's a dirty player'. Yukimura clearly also knew this ahead of time, so in the first game he basically told Sanada to start playing dirty or they will lose S3. After he told his best friend to play dirty to win, he refuse to play dirty himself, even though I'm pretty sure entering the court at the time you're supposed to is got to be less dirty than whatever Sanada was accused of doing.

Had Sanada not put his pride aside and started playing 'dirty' Yukimura wouldn't even get a chance to play, as the result would be 3-1 Seigaku if Sanada lost (likely outcome if he didn't use Rin), so he asked his best friend played dirty so that he even has a chance to play a game, and then he threw away a guaranteed victory in arrogance. So basically Yukimura is saying we must do everything, including dirty play, in the name of victory, except for himself. The Child of God can't be seen with a blemish on his resume if his opponent was disqualified due to his own problem, but it's okay for the Emperor to be a dirty player in order to win.

@Phantron, you're saying this, yet nobody in the audience made a comment saying Yukimura should have stepped onto the court.

And you seem to be in love with Sanada but you've stupidly forgotten that SANADA was the one who wanted and practically asked Yukimura to play Ryoma.
So if you're criticising, go and criticize your beloved Sanada.

Your logic makes little sense.
SANADA HIMSELF wanted Yukimura to play.

And thing is Phantron, Sanada beat Tezuka fair and square in a Singles match. Sure he threw away a head-on challenge but he won fair and square.
All Yukimura did was decide to have a fair and sqaure match with Ryoma.
How is that a blemish on his resume? Wanting to have a fair match for the title?

Your logic is stupid.

I don't know why you keep on bring up the audience since it only makes Yukimura look worse. In POT ethics, Sanada pulled a dirty trick to defeat Tezuka. This is evident from the way everyone booed Sanada for his failure to play 'head-on tennis', whatever this means. Looking at Yukimura's action he's hardly surprised by the audience's reaction, so he is well aware of what constitutes as 'dirty playing' in the world of POT.

So after just asking his friend to do some dirty playing for the team, he apparently can't bring himself to the same dirty playing he demanded from his friend. No Sanada isn't going to ask him, "Hey I just got labeled as a dirty player for the S3, maybe you should do the same?", because he's not that kind of character. On a comparative level he values honor over victory more than Yukimura did, which is why Yukimura thought 'playing dirty' was totally legit while Sanada initially disagreed. Yukimura even says crushing Ryoma head-on is the way Rikkidai does things, the same thing he just asked Sanada to NOT do in the name of victory earlier. And unlike Sanada's game, the stakes are higher and there's also no possibilty of failure. There's no guaranteed 'playing dirty' would've been enough to defeat Tezuka, but 'playing dirty' against Ryoma, namely stepping into the court on time, is a guaranteed win.

At any rate the whole slapping thing has nothing to do with friendship. The rules of Rikkidai is that if you lose a game you get slapped. Sanada didn't make any excuses on why he lost to Ryoma, even though he had better reasons to lose simply because Yukimura technically already won the game (Ryoma should've been DQed). If Sanada slapped Yukimura it's not because he's mad at him for losing. He's only doing it because that's what the rules say. Maybe Sanada allows more leeway for the lesser players in Rikkidai but there's no way he'd be making excuses for himself or Yukimura, who is better than he.

I'm stunned you think Sanada hitting Rin and Rai from the same stance is the same Yukimura as winning by default.
That's so stupid.

Sanada was the one who wanted Yukimura to play Ryoma.

Rikkai just had to loose for plot's sake. Otherwise their squad is way stronger thas Seigaku's.

Kirihara was clearly far weaker than Fuji in Kantou (he needed to blind Fuji just to keep the game close).
Alright, this was just too wrong to overlook. Not only does Fuji himself declare that Kirihara was better than him, but he even says the blindness was the very reason why he won. Kirihara did not "need" to blind Fuji. The canon itself states that if he didn't blind Fuji, he would have won anyway. BM Kirihara is better than Kantou Fuji. Muga was just a bonus. To say "Kirihara was far weaker than Fuji" in reference to Kantou makes me think you need to go back and read that match again. It's way way the opposite.

Phantron said:
In the case of Niou, it's clear Yukimura was the one who made the decision to start Niou at S2. Due to POT scheduling magic they obviously knew S2 was going to be Fuji.
I disagree with you and Kaoz. There is nothing that indicates anybody knew what the opposing lineup would be. Yukimura did not intentionally choose Niou to play Fuji, it's just the way it worked out.

Phantron said:
The logical choice would be devil form Kirihara. A safe choice would be Yanagi.
I'd say the opposite. The logical choice would be Renji. He has always been better than DM Kirihara. Though I believe in terms of straight ability and no plot hax, DM Kirihara would have gotten the job done anyways (being so hell-bent on revenge). That makes him a safe choice.

I think this list is misleading because it leaves out information. For example, you have Kaidoh >= Kirihara. Maybe in doubles, but sure as hell not in singles. Kaidoh would get raped in a cage-match with Akaya. As for Inui >= Renji? That argument couldn't be made until PoT2. Renji was way better than Inui. I always say, just because Inui beat Renji in Kantou does not mean Inui could beat all the people Renji could beat. I wouldn't say Tezuka is at all "equal" with Sanada. As Airgrimes said, Tezuka straight up lost. Every technique he had to offer was defeated. That is total "less than" status. So in terms of player ability, Rikkai is the better team.

Yukimura or Sanada could take on Tezuka
Renji or Kirihara could take on Fuji and the rest of the team
Yagyuu and Niou could take on GP
Bunta and Jackal could take on any other doubles team

On paper, Rikkaidai is just better. There is no reason why they should have lost Kantou. I will forever hate Konomi for writing that.

Fuji was up 3-0 against Kirihara in bloodshot eye mode and then got blinded, dropped 4 games to 3-4, before eventually winning 7-5, so his record after being blinded is 4-5.

Kirihara seems to have the 'increase power over time' trait that is usually only reserved for Ryoma, so we can assume Kirihara will make a rally toward the end, but it's an open question whether Fuji will do worse than 4-5 if he just continued playing normally. Fuji went 4-1 against Kirihara in the Closed Eye phase, but he also went 0-4 before he figured out how to use Closed Eyes so the positive and the negative roughly canceled each other out and his real reason for winning is that he built a nice 3-0 lead to start.

While Kirihara's end state (Muga + heightened concentration) is formidable I don't see it being so powerful that it'd just be an utter beatdown. Fuji only has to manage 3-4 or better starting at 3-0. Muga only kicks in while Kirihara is in danger of losing, so let's say Fuji managed only 2-4 playing normal so the score is 5-4 and Kirihara uses Muga. At that point, since Fuji doesn't have Closed Eyes he'd be significantly weaker than Kirihara. However, Muga only lasts a short time with serious side effects so as long as Muga runs out before Kirihara wins 3 games, Fuji would still win anyway.

Note that this is one of the few games where there's actually a lot of back and forth action behind the scenes. Muga Kirihara is obviously > Closed Eye Fuji, but note that Kirihara used Fuji on Advantage Server (Fuji), got a point back, and then still lost the game after dropping his racket, so the event must have went from:

Advantage Fuji -> (Kirihara uses Muga) -> Deuce -> (Fuji scores behind the scenes) -> Advantage Fuji -> (Kirihara drops his racket) -> Fuji wins 7-5.

Having service apparently is enough to overcome Muga, in a rare nod to the power of the serve.

For the nationals matchup, usually teams already magically know each other's lineup, but even if not you'd expect S2 to either be Fuji or Tezuka since Ryoma at S1 looks like a safe bet (he's been S1 for the last 2 series), so it's not like Yukimura's expecting an easy fight at S2. Whether Yanagi or Kirihara is better is hard to tell since both have relatively screen time but both are obviously proven singles player while Niou, at this point, appears to be a doubles specialist. There's nothing wrong with gambling but if you gamble and lose, you got to accept the responsibility for the failure.

What's wrong using Rin against Tezuka Phantom? Why Sanada had to use Rai? Sanada was just being stubborn.
Using Rin is dirty by POT ethics. I'm not the one who came up with that. You can see from the audience's reaction that it's considered a dirty move and that's a very strong reaction. I mean we see people get air comboed while spewing blood in POT and the audience never speaks out against that, so using Rin must be considered a crime against humanity. Yukimura obviously didn't disagree with the audience booing Sanada for being a dirty player. If you ask me Yukimura's advice shows great thinking but the rest of the POT world clearly doesn't approve. And since POT views Yukimura's tactics as dirty that gives him no room to stand on when he later wants to crush Ryoma head on, because he's already a dirty player by POT ethics.

I honestly have no idea what's the point of having the audience booing Sanada for being a dirty player as that adds absolutely nothing to the story. Maybe Tezuka paid off a few guys to play mind games with Sanada to prevent Sanada from using the one technique that'd totally destroy him. But the audience has declared Rin as a dirty move and we can't argue against that.

Well if a rematch happens at this moment,
Yanagi+Kirihara will beat Inui+Kaidou
Niou+Yagyuu will beat Golden pair. Niou can synchro with anyone.
Fuji will defeat Marui or Jackal.
Sanada will defeat Tezuka. Players doesn't have TnK all the time.
Yuki will thrash Koshimae. Same logic. Koshimae lost to Tokugawa & didn't use Tnk rather couldn't. Besides, before Koshimae realizes he will fall victim to new yips. Since he will think he is winning, he wont have urge to break yips. He will think he won 6-0 while result will be opposite.

Since everyone getting Tnk it will loose its value, I guess.
But if a rematch happens actually, many new things will happen & many new techniques will be used. So, we cant tell the winner for sure.

Sanada has no personal stake in this fight. If Yukimura beat Ryoma 6-0 it's not like Sanada is going to say, "See the true power of Rikkidai little twerp! Wither away in despair! HAHAHAHAHA!" Sanada helped Ryoma because like any decent human being you should pitch in if you heard someone lost his memory and just playing tennis will help them recover. Sanada doesn't owe Yukimura anything or vice versa, but Yukimura owes the team for losing, because that's the Rikkidai way. Sanada could've come up with the excuses for why he lost to Ryoma, but he did not. I assume we don't actually find out what happened because that was supposed to be the end of POT and it wouldn't make much sense to delve on whether Yukimura got slapped or not after losing when the entire series is ending, but Yukimura definitely should've been the fall guy. No it's not fair but it was never fair when Sanada was the only person who was slapped for Kantou tournament. If you're the S1 you obviously have more responsibility to bare compared to others, even though in Kantou the blame should go to Yanagi who should never have lost to Inui.

For the canon thing, there are a lot of random side materials for POT and obviously they should not be taken completely seriously but it's not like it's a different person who drawn those.
Actually the Hougakos are drawn by a different person, Kenichi Sakurai to be specific. Konomi has nothing to do with them.

As for the Rin thing, it's only an issue because it was Sanada doing it. Sanada gained the title of Emperor by beating his opponents in head on challenges, so by using Rin over Rai and throwing the head on challenge away, he's betraying his title or something along those lines. If anyone else did the same thing, it wouldn't matter at all.

Why Tezuka & Fuji didn't help Ryoma? They both played Koshimae before. Also why Sanada had to show Koshimae Rai?

Not quite.
Kaidoh didn't have Gyro Combo or Devil Mode, Kirihara had just got Devil Mode so Kirihara was above Kaidoh going into the final.
Its shown in the final that Yanagi had climbed back above Inui again. Yanagi was all-out better than Inui in that match. Konomi treated Inui quite poorly in the final.
Ryoma w/out Plot Power got wrecked by Yukimura. Its not til our hero got Plot Powered TnK did he wreck Yuki.
Momoshiro may have even beat Yagyuu since Yagyuu had only the standard Laser, and Konomi hadn't deleted Momoshiro's Nature Insight.

At that time? Yeah he was equal with Atobe and he is right now.
But back then he was weaker than Fuji, unless you're talking about the current arc in the story if so you would be right.

And I just can't see Niou with TnK right now. I don't know why I just don't see Konomi giving it to him.
Especially after the PairPuri said the next people able to attain it are Akutagawa and Tooyama.

Sanada helped Ryoma because like any decent human being you should pitch in if you heard someone lost his memory and just playing tennis will help them recover.
You're a hypocrite.
If Sanada wanted to help him, he could have done it anytime AFTER the Nationals Final had ended.
He didn't have to do it in time for Ryoma to face Yukimura.

If you honestly think Sanada didn't help Ryoma recover FOR THE PURPOSE of Yukimura defeating Ryoma you're an idiot.
Sanada specifically said he wanted Yukimura to beat him. Why are you fighting against Konomi's manga?

It was "unfair" only Sanada got slapped?
Sanada ASKED to be slapped after the Kantou tournament. You're just talking crap now Phantron,

I don't know if you watched the match Phantron, or at least read the manga, but Sanada went out of his way, out of the way of his own team's victory, to get Ryoma in a healthy condition to so that his friend Yukimura could defeat him fairly and win the title fairly.
Yukimura stomped Ryoma until TnK arrived.

How can you only blame Yukimura if Sanada went out to help and train the enemy?

I think nobody did anything wrong. Neither does anybody else in PoT.
You can't blame somebody for wanting to win the National Title fairly, and that you're stupid if you think Sanada using Rin & Rai to beat Tezuka which was simply changing his play style, is the same as a human being wanting to win the title fairly for their team.

That's too retarded and I hope you're just character bashing because it would be better than that logic.

I disagree with the match outcome. If we would just look at pair list, the only match Rikkai have a chance of winning is Niou+Yagyuu. They will lose the rest of the match. If you want to continue about who's stronger, though, take it to the tier list thread and I'll discuss with you there.

I think I have given my reasons. Can you give yours as well?

Alright.

Yanagi&Kirihara

Inui show to be at least equal to Yanagi in the last match they play, if not superior.

Demon mode boost vs Kaidoh laser combo is unknown. But there's at least 3-5 pages of discussion in the tier list that ends up putting Kaidoh on top.

So looking at that, Inui and Kaidoh should win.

---

It is not confirm that Niou can syncho with anyone.

He syncho with Mutsu and Oishi because they can activate synch at will. in his tag team match with Atobe, his team was in "great peril", which pass the condition for using syncho. It is not known if he can activate it every time he was in great peril or if he can activate it 100% of the time.

Thus, this match aren't even confirm. I agree that Niou&Yagyuu will win if they can syncho, though.

---

Fuji, 100%. Next.

---

Tezuka can activate PoP at will. He activate it again during his short match with Fuji. Judging from what we've know so far, Tezuka win this.

I might change my mind once we saw more of black aura from Sanada coming match. But for now, I think Tezuka can win this. He's so op he got remove from the series. That gotta means something.

---

Naw, PoP kicks in. Echizen beat Yukimura. There's nothing that shows Yukimura can even remotely come close to PoP when he got 6-0 last time he face it. Yukimura also have to beat 11 ball that Ryoma seemingly had. See how much tier upgrade is 10 ball?

So 5-0 or 4-1 in Seigaku favor using your line-up. Of course, if we use the National and Kantou line-up, it might be even more of a stomp.

I'll try Kantou match.

Doubles 2
Black Jack Knife+Laser Combo. GG

Doubles 1

Singles 3
Inui win, shown by 1st stringer. They're at least even. I'll give it to Inui because he actually didn't fail.

Singles 2
Fuji stomp.

Singles 1
By their last match, Echizen. PoP stomp National Sanada.

By their coming match, who knows. Sanada get black aura and get to face no 2 in doubles. Echizen will be going against either no 1 or Ryoga.

National

Singles 2
Who knows? Fuji pretty much beat National Tezuka save for ZSS. The current theme is a best of 3 set match. ZSS is just not going to last in 3 set match. Fuji might be able to win this.

Doubles 1
Marui actually get an upgrade that might be able to seal syncho. But still, the champion pair last match was really pathetic. Golden Pair win.

Singles 1
Cover above.

There's no real reason to assume that Ryoma can't control PoP. Oh, he lost against Kazuya? Did we even see match, really, pass that few balls?

It is not confirm that Niou can syncho with anyone.
What? Synchroing with Oishi AND the extremely self-centered Atobe?
Its now crystal clear Niou can Synchro with any Schooler in a pinch.
Nothing can go against that.
As long they're in a pinch he can do it we know that much.

He syncho with Mutsu and Oishi because they can activate synch at will. in his tag team match with Atobe, his team was in "great peril", which pass the condition for using syncho. It is not known if he can activate it every time he was in great peril or if he can activate it 100% of the time.
In fact, I think we can confirm he can become any schooler.
He's gone from somebody younger than him(Ryoma), to somebody older than him (Mutsu).
He told Yukimura he can become Yuki or Sanada too. He's become Shiraishi.
And what we saw, was that the moment he became Atobe, within that very moment he and Atobe Synchro'd.

I'm sorry but if Niou can Synchro with Atobe, he can gotdamn Synchro with Yagyuu who is from what we know his closest friend.

Fuji, 100%. Next.
?
Niou has ZSS, he isn't dropping a service game.
Niou can return 5thCounter so well that it doesn't become a Cord ball but instead a normal return.
I'm sorry but Niou VS Fuji is an extremely close-call now Niou has ZSS.

There's no real reason to assume that Ryoma can't control PoP. Oh, he lost against Kazuya? Did we even see match, really, pass that few balls?
I agree with everything else and this too.
It wasn't an official match, so I don't think we can assume Ryoma did everything he could, they were probably just trying to out-rally each other.
With maybe a few special shots but no aura's I don't think.

While that confirmed that Niou can become any MS, it doesn't confirm that he can syncho with any characters. He happens to pass the syncho requirement given in the manga (the pair being in great peril) before he start using syncho. He synch with Oishi as Kikumaru, both of which can use syncho willingly. That's the point of his illusion.

So it's not confirm yet. Although I can agree that there can be a good possibility that he can.

I'm talking the match up he sets. This one.

Fuji will defeat Marui or Jackal.
His match are a mix of Kantou&National that's meant to give Rikkai some fighting chance.

In this match? I think it's 100%

Net tech? Hoshi Hanabi, gg.

To look at my opinion of Fuji and Niou, look at National. I do think it'l be a close call.

It also doesn't matter that Niou can answer 5th counter. Fuji beats Niou in a normal rally very consistently at the end of Tezuka illusion. That's why he switch to Shiraishi. Niou will only win game by ZSS. But in a 3 set match, him winning is kind of iffy.
