Finally finished season 3, we need more of the anime, it was fantastic especially when Toei got the best animators they could find on to deliver really smooth and fluid animation for running, battles, and the gunfight in the final 3 episodes. I loved seeing the best battles come to life.
I recently started watching World Trigger. I finished the Afrokrator Invasion Arc
I admit my expectations for the show were pretty low.
However when the punks tried to scam Yuma out of his money saying he broke their leg
and then Yuma actually breaks the punk's leg and tosses the money being like "keep the change"
I became a fan.
Osamu by himself would probably annoy me as a protagonist but Yuma definitely balances him out.
Then when they had the Black Trigger Capture arc and they were explaining how the different triggers work
while actually showing it in battle I was like "hell yeah".
The Afrokrator villains felt a bit generic but to be fair I don't know much about them so of course they would.
the supporting cast actually mattering is probably the best part.

Also I like how Yuma's voice actress is the same as Near from Death Note as they are very similar
1. Both have white hair
2. Both are short and mistaken for being younger than they are
3. Both are hella cocky
4. Both are basically walking bullshit detectors
Difference is Yuma obviously kicks more ass and picks up on social skills a lot better than Near.
However Near is probably more intelligent.
I actually don't really have a problem with the characters looking generic because it allows for more focus on the fights.
The characters may seem a bit "one dimensional" but at the same time I think it works because it has to balance so many of them
in a battle. It can be difficult for me to keep track of all the names so giving them an iconic look and personality can actually really help.
I think the generic design is very intentional. As you said, it helps to:
- Add a feeling of chaos in intense battles. Chaos and confusion are easier to convey when there are too many similar things in one panel.
- Helps to ground the characters, it goes for a functional approach.
- Helps to focus on the battle mechanics (mostly weapons) and how they are used.
- Makes a point about neighbors being "alien" in shape.

On a whim I went to go see where WT got to and I can't believe I'm posting here a year since the last post and literally nothing has changed. Even 2 years ago since I stopped reading its still the same simulation training for almost 4 years. Holy crap.
Like does Ashihara even get paid for this?
I really liked this and would follow again if they could just move on...

I don't know what you expected, considering that World Trigger was already a pretty slow paced manga even before Ashihara's really bad health problems that make him regularly miss monthly chapters. And even besides that, stuff has changed. We're at the very end of day 5 out of 7 and there's been a ton of character growth and development, world building, and lore drops since the two years you've read it. If you think "literally nothing has changed" then you must be super speed reading it or something cause there's no way you somehow missed that much.
Volume 27 sold over 300k in it's first month, so he's getting paid a ton for it. This arc will probably end in about a year or so, but Ashihara definitely isn't going to try and rush it with both how well it's doing and how bad his health is, so don't expect anything to change for a while yet.
Still, the series has released some chapters. This month is just one episode, but maybe next month will have some more. This arc is exciting, at least to me.

Ok, since we are reaching the battle phase...These are my predictions. I put these in a Discord channel but will do it here for the sake of having it more accessible.
1. Suwa: While the least favorite here (In the discord channel, not here in MH), they have a very balanced team with 3 captains. Oki can take all the ones who will take the Osamu bait. I mean, the strong thing about our main boy is that He’s way too bothersome to keep him in the battle for too long. And Katori is a genius, she can work with multiple strategies. AND SHE HAS MOTIVATIONS. I feel they will stomp in the later game (While they will have a so-so first day)
2. Utagawa: Has Yuma and two gunners. I think it can work well.
3. Mizukami: I don’t know why, but I feel Fumika is very reliable. They have a balanced team. I don’t see them going too wrong, tbh.
4. Kitazoe: Kikuchihara has a strong side effect that matches Kitazoe's style well. Their issue will be someone like Yuma who can go directly to the backline.
5. Ninomiya: 3 snipers and one HUGE bait (which is Nino himself). I feel He will take advantage of positioning. Azuma will be very helpful in educating Ema and Chika as snipers.
6. Kakizaki: As a captain, He doubts a bit too much, but both Inukai and Kageura are strong on their own. I feel they will do good but not as good as Utagawa.
7. Murakami: They lack a sniper, they will probably lose with ranged comps. I really enjoyed watching Yuko fighting.
8. Oji: It has very strong attackers. Tsuji, Ikoma, and Obishima are very precise. If anything, they lack range.
9. Kuruma: Yuba is incredible when He has someone to cover him, which both Koarai and Kuruma can provide. I feel this team will fall into every trap, though.
10. Rokuro: They have the best operator and one of the best attackers…but we will see here why Hyuse trusts Osamu: good choices on the battlefield are needed. And while I see Rokuro growing out of this experience, I don’t see him conquering.
11. Kodera: The guy is fine but I feel the operator will be an issue. We will see Kitora shine, though.
These past few chapters of this Wakamura development mini-arc have been absolutely fantastic. It feels like I'm reading a self-help book with all of the different insights about how to progress, achieving goals, where we are now vs where we were before, how to teach others, and how, where, and when we should be satisfied with where we are in life. Plus all of this with a whole bunch of characters somehow having a different insight to add to the conversation makes it immensely relatable at times. Not to mention seeing how other people view Wakamura and Osamu as being very different when I feel like the fandom has always compared them a bunch. Now that we're past it this might be World Trigger at it's absolute best.
Gotta admit I did not see the idea of Wakamura being a future instructor come to me. I thought this whole thing was to made him captain material for the case of Katori leaving for the away mission but the way Hyuse explained it, he would actually fit the role of an instructor very well. And Hyuse also was right with the whole "tons of trainees, few actual warriors" problem of Border, so instructors like Wakamura who also struggled when they were kids/teens might be of far more help to advance more people from C to B rank than people like Katori or Osamu could do.
After so many years... the 1st Phase of the training arc is not only over but the 2nd Phase has finally started! Here's to many more years in Phase 2 of the training arc! Cheers!

If you're reason for putting it down was just cause you were bored of the lack of action then yeah sure, since phase 2 looks like it'll be action packed.
I was expecting this thread to have been defunct ages ago but I am happy some people are still here lol. Also phase 1 was actually more than great, I loved following it over the years
It's been fours years. Also this made me check and apparently I never watched season 3, gotta fix that before the next season lol. Also need to catch up on the manga.

More info on the reboot. Tweet says it'll cover the same material as the original season 1.

The first season of the anime is... not good, to say the least. It suffers from all the 2010's toei problems like poor animation, extremely drawn out pacing, and it also has a long filler arc that people generally don't like. Seasons 2 and 3 were made later and are much better in every way.
