I have 2, not sure if this has been done, if so then let it drop.
1st (not ranked in order, the second imo is worse) Sasori.
*Not only was he built up as this epic bad ass that took out the kazekage with no one noticing by himself, he could controll 300 puppets and was pretty much imortal. How does he die? Sakura on strings.
The potential of Sasori was seemingly endless, yes it feels like he was nerfed and downplayed for plot convenience.
2nd, the most obvious is Neji. What the hell happened? He started of in the Chuunin arc as a major bad ass and hints towards the possible equal of the Uchiha clan was in the making. Neji showed superior battle ability and then he went of the grid after Naruto vs Neji.
Fast forward to Shippuuden and he plays a minor roll in the begining and is offed without remorse by Kishi. One of the most wasted characters in the entire manga.
Both the byakugan and the Hyuuga felt like one big waste in light of this war. I am not happy
