On another note, I just watched Speed for the first time ever.. And I loved it.. That's a great movie. Until they get off the bus though..

And I'm watching Soul Plane now. :lmao

As predictable as the movie was, I really enjoyed myself. It was exciting and tense. (:hurr) Bullock was kind of annoying yeah, but I can never get enough of her. :teehee Keanu was okay, regular action, Hopper was nothing in the movie though, he barely got any screentime and the moments he got that it was.. uncomfortable..

I haven't seen it yet. But I know it's going to be shit, but I'm doing some homework so it's perfect.

And yeah, I saw both of them. :lmao

Never saw Soul Plane before. That's why.

Saw the Friday trilogy a bunch of times already.

Re: If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs.

Saw 5 Centimeters per Second today.

I think it's incomplete. The episode one was perfect. But the ending is kind of incomplete. There's a lot of potential from the start So I expected a lot. I'm kind of disappointed.
It wasn't incomplete, it was ambiguous. The movie was about ignoring the present, seeking fulfillment in nostalgia. Happiness in the present, and future, is rejected in favor of an unattainable, lost childhood ideal. Because he never moves on from his first, unrequited love, Akari, Takaki rejects Kanae in part two, and Risa in part three. Instead he continues to chase a ghost, a girl he has not seen or spoken to in many years. Memories are something we grow increasingly distant from. That is why Takaki and Akari stop exchanging letters. Their time together has faded from something concrete and tangible into a thing of the past. Memories can never truly be lost. Gradually they fade from something physical, a real event, to something abstract, thoughts and feelings. Takaki could never accept that. That is why the ending had to be ambiguous. He could never truly find Akari, and recreate the past. But even if he finally moved on, her memory would always be there. The only proper way to end the movie was for him to come tantalizingly close to finding her, but fall only seconds short. Her memory was something that felt close, felt real, but is not really reachable. Shinkai has enough faith in his viewers intelligence that he did not need to spell all of this out for them. He left it up to the viewer to parse the symbolism. Poetic ambiguity is a good thing, the sign of mature art meant for a mature audience. The expectation is that the audience will think about what they watched.

Re: If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hotdogs.

I think it's because the male protagonist was still incomplete in the end. Because he didn't moved on. That's why I find it incomplete. He's forever alone... like me :notsure

I like the idea of separation more than the idea of unrequited love in the movie.
That was the point of the movie. Any other ending would have invalidated what the movie was trying to say. If Takaki had found Akari, or let go of his past, it would have been cheap, tacked on, and phony. Separation and unrequited love are inseparable, they are both necessary parts of the movie.

(after some cutting...)

You say some good shit! :crying
