I've had my comp for too long, and I had it 2 years without either spybot, ad-aware or any firewalls/AV-progs.
Needless to say, I had to reinstall the comp a buncha times

I had to erase my whole hardrive and reinstall windows once like a year ago because I had this big fat virus that just f**k'd everything over in my comp it was a total p**s take!

I might get a new computer very soon...maybe this time I'll get a laptop as oppose to a desktop!

This comp is from like -02 but everything innit except from the motherboard are upgraded like shit.

When i got it, it had like 64mb integrated graph and 448mb ram memory. Now it has 4gb ram and 1024mb graph. cpu is overclocked and new 960fan etc.
However, I can't upgrade it more, I can't dual-core it unless I get a new motherboard, and I have an old motherboard which means my graph card is not PCI, my ram memory is DDR(1). So I have to buy a motherboard that supports PCI-E and DDR3, and a fan with higher rpm, like the Scythe GT with 1150.

However, this'll cost like €800+ and I'm broke.. (spending all my money on trips and travels)

Aren't you better off just waiting *and saving * to get a brand new comp rather then spending on upgrading parts of an old comp?! Well, in the end whatever best suits you I guess!

@Blai: is there a good firewall you recommend. Mine went haywire, couldn't connect to the internet for updates, it slowed my entire computer down. Any sugesstions for a replacement?

I don't know, really, Kaiten. I'm using avast! On-Access Scanner and it's working really well. It doesn't like the ads on MH so it automatically block some of them, which I find awesome. Updating its db very often and doesn't leech a lot of memory. It comes along with avast antivirus so it's kewl

If not, you could just skip using FW and go with Spybot S&D along with Ad-Aware and then scan once a week. That's enough to make your comp survive

I'm using AVG for anti - virus but it's only ok and doesn't have an FW. I might just try installing avast later today.

I can't see adds at MH so blocking them is not a problem

And I will save money for a new computer now, I just had to upgrade, and I upgraded one part at a time with ~1-2months in between, so in that way I could get a killer comp in 6months, and it felt cheaper

However, it's not that much of a killer anymore...
