The original might be "Fortune favors the bold", and is a quote from Virgil. It was also used by Oliver Stone in Alexander (that movie with Colin Farrell that flopped)."Destiny favors the bold"

maybe the original word is "Fortune" but "Destiny" suits much much better, dont you think?Siedhr said:The original might be "Fortune favors the bold", and is a quote from Virgil. It was also used by Oliver Stone in Alexander (that movie with Colin Farrell that flopped).
One of my favorite quotes: "Modesty is the quality of people with no other qualities". I have no idea who said that. It might have been me.![]()
Depends on how you look at it. Destiny can either be seen as a predetermined course of your life (in which case you don't have control over it whatsoever and the quote fits), or as something you make yourself (in which the quote loses much of its punch, because obviously bold people will take better care of their lives). Fortune however is always fickle and cannot be controlled. Lady Luck is finicky about whom she'll bestow her favor upon. For me the quote also means that boldness to take your life in your own hands negates the need for luck.maybe the original word is "Fortune" but "Destiny" suits much much better, dont you think?
There's nothing really bad about modesty. The real meaning of that quote is the fact that modesty isn't truly a quality. If you're proud of being modest, then you're not modest after all, no? And, imo, people should be proud of their qualities. Makes them strive toward the best of them. Lacking modesty, not putting that much emphasis on it, doesn't necessarily make one showy and selfish, as you put it.btw that word is really wrong : "Modesty is the quality of people with no other qualities".
What is bad about modesty? I wouldnt want a showy and selfish person as a friend.
It's from an old Japanese game that they translated into english. It's actually:Siedhr said:"All your bases belong to us." - Don't know, don't care enough to look it up

Destiny is the most complicated thing you can think of. You say there is two ways destiny can be seen as but there is another one according to my belief.Siedhr said:Depends on how you look at it. Sure I understand.Thank you for your consideration.Either way, mine wasn't a critique of your quote, merely an observation I thought interesting.
Modesty is sth you show to others. you cant be modest to yourself or it cant be called being modest should I say. it is lying to yourself. There's nothing really bad about modesty.
