Because you must somehow mark with your aura the place you want to go.

In case of Goreinu, it was trough his gorillas. In case of Leorio, it's the trail his aura has. In case of GI, the whole system is based on location that probably have Nen Marks. Or people you know. And for most of that stuff, having your aura far from your body is one of the basic requirements. Even in the case of Kuroro the teleportation was shown between a space that was limited and since we don't know the extents of that ability it's hard to predict the school used.

Anyway, I take the GI phrase as an example because Ging is one of the Top Nen users in the world and I doubt He would put an inefficient school in charge of that particular task. More knowing that his ability doesn't relate to movement.
But if the purpose of the emitted nen is simply to mark the space where you are moving to then the act of teleporting itself does not necessarily require emission nen (at least not by that explanation). I don't think the whole thing has to be about being or not efficient for the most part, a different combination of nens could conceivably work just as well(it would only work differently). With the description you gave there is no particular reason for the marks you described to not be interchangeable with conjured objects. I would argue the main difficulty there is that using a conjured object for the island for example would require a far more specific ability than standard emission (emitters are similar to enhancers in that they abilities are simple and straightforward in general or at don't have to be complicated, conjurers usually have complex rules and vows and are generally limited to conjuring 1 object with abilities). Conjured objects are real things therefore having them on the island would be a sort of risk as they could be damaged.

As far as I can imagine the only way in which I could conceivably see teleportation being strictly an emission thing would be that whoever is being teleported is actually converted to nen and being carried over a distance. In that particular case teleportation would be the definition of emission at large and no other group could actually do that efficiently (you wouldn't want the nen into which you were converted to lose strength over time lol).

i thought of another ability :)

Nen Bubbles

Type:Emmision
Ability: The user creates nen bubbles using his aura. there are 5 colors of nen Bubbles:
RED: they are explosives. When it touches any surface it explodes (uses a bit of transmutation)
GREEN: emits shockwave when touched. the shock wave is like a pushing force. Does not do any damage unless you hit a wall or somethng.
BLUE: when touched it produces 2 random colored bubbles.
BLACK: sticks to anything it touches and then increases its weight to 5kg
ORANGE: when touched it pops and attracts the nearest bubble to the surface where it popped.
Notes: The nen Bubbles cannot be controlled. it freely floats around the air. The user can create 25 bubbles maximum for each color. when one pops. the user can create another one. The user can freely touch the bubble w/o activating its effects.

COMMENTS ?? :D

Well, red wouldn't really be the only one that needs transmutation. The shockwave from green would also need it IMO. You need to give nen the properties to make it act like reverse magnetism after all. Black also needs transmutation, you are giving nen the characteristics of something heavy after all. Orange should be cleared though. Would giving color to nen in itself require transmutation? Blue one is nice, perhaps being random would act as a sort of condition/pledge and strengthen the nen like when gon screams and charges rock.

I've been checking this thread for some time and I think it's time to share mi Hatsu idea:

Chemical Water Gun

Nen type: Transmutation (along with conjuration)

The user is able to transform his aura into different kinds of fluids with certain chemical properties. Those fluids can be shot with a conjured water gun.

This conjured water gun has a lever or “reloader” which the user has to move back and forth in order to add more pressure to the tank where the liquid is kept and therefore be able to shoot further. If the user shoots without reloading several times before, the liquid would just pour without strength and he would be just wasting his aura.

The gun also has a wheel to adjust the size of the hole from where the liquid is going to be shot. A shot with a wider hole requires more pressure and uses more liquid but can be useful when a big burst is needed.

When the user runs out of liquid inside the gun or wants to change the type of “ammo” he has to de-materialize and then re-materialize the gun. If the tank of the gun had liquid inside and it is de-materialized, the aura used to transmute the liquid can’t be recovered.

Types of fluids:

Flammable: This liquid is set on fire when it contacts with the atmosphere, although it is dependent on the environment conditions. For example, if it is raining or snowing the liquid may not be set on fire and it would need to be lit with a match or a lighter. This can happen also in a humid atmosphere.
The purpose of this liquid is to be the one that makes damage to the enemy.

Freezer: This liquid is volatile at atmospheric pressure, and its enthalpy of vaporization is quite big. This means, that when this liquid contacts with something, it will drain its “thermal energy” or heat. If the weather is cold or humid the “freezing process” is faster and stronger.
The purpose of this liquid is to weaken the enemy by slowing the blood circulation of the parts of the body where it is shot. It can also be used on water in order to turn it into ice.

Synthetic solver: This is a corrosive liquid that can dissolve any material it contacts with, but it has some exceptions:
-Living beings
-Anything produced naturally by a living being or that was part of one. (Wood, wool, a fruit, a corpse…)
-Aura, materialized objects, anything protected with “Shu” or “Ten”.
This liquid doesn’t have direct battle applications, apart from environment modification. However it is perfect for sabotage and avoiding obstacles.

Smoke-screen: This liquid turns into gas at atmospheric pressure. The gas, which is similar to dark smoke, takes up a big area. This smoke nullifies vision inside of it and also interferes with any “En” used to detect anything inside its area.
The main use of this gas is for escaping, since it can be used in the user’s position without reloading the gun. Combined with “synthetic solver” you can escape through a hole in a wall or the floor easily. It also can be used to ambush or to support other person’s attack, or to make smoke signals, who knows :P

All this liquids have a density similar to water, so the gun can be handled properly and they can be shot at a decent distance. All of them can be produced without the need of the Chemical Water Gun, but the first 2 wouldn’t be much useful since they hurt the user. With smoke-screen, however, can be very efficient to use without the gun when you want to use it to escape, since you want to use it where you are, not shoot it to somebody.

And that’s all, I think it is a versatile ability with its pros and cons. Feel free to comment!

^I like that ability. Only issue is perhaps the emission issue. Even if you use a gun you are still basically shotting nen which means it will lose strength and effectiveness the second it loses contact with the creator (like hisoka's gum). Perhaps a few rules and conditions could help deal with that issue though. Cold temperatures shouldn't actually help the cold nen I think, you would need higher temperatures for it to evaporate more violently. At lower temperatures it would evaporate less violently as far as I can gather.

Agh... The fact of shooting with a gun was my "triumph card" to make a transmutation ability without emission, I'll see if I can solve it.

About the cold nen, I was thinking that when you come out of the swimming pool, the lower the temperature is, the cooler you feel, but probably that cold its not just the water evaporation but the temperature itself. My thermodynamics knowledge is not enough to say :^_^

Well, based on what we have seen just having some distance between you and your nen is enough to more than significantly weaken it. Machi and hisoka both have that issue and both of them are extremely high level nen users. The ability is cool but with emission being that hard to acquire perhaps it is a tad unpractical. Maybe changing your ability to emission can do the trick though. Instead of conjuring the gun you make it something like other emission abilities (like knuckles thingy) and you transmute nen into the gun and shot it. Not sure of how exactly transmutation would work for an emitter. Having limitations in emission is a far easier concept that having limitations in transmutation. I mean, in your case you would be transmuting nen into relatively simple things so perhaps learning simple transmutation is doable and viable enough.

Well, the basic concept here is that energy goes from places of high heat to low heat to kinda balance itself out. The case you are describing basically is one where the environment is colder than you are and thus you are giving off heat. Now, take a look at what happens with sweat or alcohol when it touches you. Sweat cools you down because as it evaporates it takes energy from your body. Alcohol feels cool on touch because as it rapidly evaporates it creates the same effect. Not sure on how to apply that concept here... maybe just make your nen really cold and keep it simple lol. Or make it so that the nen only evaporates when it touches humans but that would probably require some conditions.

Well, the issue here is that for the tags to have nen at all the user would need a heavy dose of emission. Nen is a property of living things and conjured objects are simply objects, they cannot emit nen on their own. For the objects to have nen at all you need to literally stick your own nen to it which is precisely the definition of emission. You can't conjure objects with properties which do not exist in the real world or are impossible and no object can have a nen of its own. You could add conditions to make the sticking nen stronger but it would be inadvisable to do so IMO. Emission is as far as you can get from conjuring and it would require some heavy conditions. Its not the en itself that requires emission but rather the very nen which each tag is supposed to have that does. Any nen loses strength when the distance from the creator increases unless there is some emission involved, emission is all about maintaining the strength of nen over long distances.

Another thing, using shu on the tags for them to stick to something would require transmutation. You'd need a nen with sticky properties for it to stick the tag to something after all. That is more doable than the emission part but I still think this is an unpractical way to go about it. Gyo would reveal the location of every tad instantly as the nen would be visible unless in is applied however it is still plausible to detect in for nen users with enough skill and it is still a more complicated approach to conjuring the tags with glue. Worth saying, hisoka has nen like that and even he cannot make the properties of his nen maintain themselves efficiently once he loses contact with it (let alone go a huge distance from it). And he would even be closer to emission than a conjurer.

With kortopi things are a tad different from that and even he has some rules and restrictions. The copies kurtopi mades are not in fact en, they act "like" nen and he said he can tell if someone enters. As far as we saw killua got close to the buildings but even then he was no detected which suggests there is no actual en field. Basically for him to detect anything there has to be physical contact. Your tags could potentially work like that but there would be some issues if that function is to be important. You'd need either a way to make them large enough for the odds of someone touching them to be good enough but also keep them conspicuous so that they are not destroyed. The ability would let you know if a tag is destroyed but if it is then you can't teleport to it unless there is a second tag close enough to it.
There isn't any emission used for the tags because they come with its own field of nen the moment they are conjured, which is shaped into En by the user. So the user doesn't need to maintain the En using emission because it is already maintained by the tag itself. The tag is like its own entity and has its own field of nen proportionate to the amount of nen used to create it. Its just that the user is so skilled at creating these now that the En range of the tags are now at 20m and he has conjured about 30 in total so far (he doesn't have to use or focus on them all at the same time but if he does this is his limit). As for the Shu the tags come with a condition that allows him to stick the tags to any surface if Shu is applied to them. He can also use In to hide tags but that is usually very difficult so the amount of tags he can use In on simultaneously is 3. The tags that he hides with In are the ones he sticks on ppl, he doesnt really care about hiding the rest because they can disturb the opponents concentration, make them worry, etc. Also once an ability is applied to a tag it stays on it permanently (this is why the En range of the tags are so high, its why they stay stuck once Shu is used, or why they can permanently stay hidden with In). Now if ur thinking this ability is OP well it is, he trained a very long time to master this hatsu even though he was a prodigy.

Also, most Teleport techniques we have seen requires Emission mainly. We have seen that in GI and then with Leorio, and then with side characters all over.

If you change your school to Emission the technique is way more effective, since conjuring something small like a tag is not a hard task and doesn't require high levels of conjurer.
Well we'll just say this teleportation is specialist like Chrollo's teleportation. Actually this type of teleportation is actually the user moving the space/time to get to the specified location so I think that would be classified as specialist.
Well, the only case of teleportation we have seen was done by an emitter but I don't think the ability itself is limited to emitters. How is the ability directly relating to emitting to begin with? Even with the emitter guy his ability was to create nen animals and exchange places with them... I think this is the sort of ability which requires to begin with strong vows and rules more than anything. Perhaps distance between the tags(say, the distance between tags cannot be more than the maximum diameter of en the user can use), limiting the number of tags (and perhaps a condition with a heavy penalty to undo the tags) and the maximum distance you can be from any one tag(you can't teleport unless you are at least x distance from at least 1 tag) to teleport to any of the others would be a good start.
There isnt any minimum or maximum distance for any tags but since the user has to focus and sense on where the tags are he can't be that far away from the tags or else he won't be able to accurately sense them. So it all depends on how strong the user is at sensing his own tags.

Use an emitted creature instead of a gun should solve the problem,as you said. And I may be wrong but I think Pokkle's Rainbow is a mix of emission and transmutation.

Or why not transmute the aura into fluids and emit them under the form of sphere or something.

Although I didn't say it clear in the explanation, the fact of having to "reload" the gun several times is a limitation to the ability. So is having to re-materialize to refill the tank. This 2 limitations reduce the rate of fire of the gun severely, especially if you compare it with abilitys like Franklin's "mac hine gun", and keeps both hands busy during a fight. Also if you take in account that the time the user has to keep its aura emmited and transmuted at the same time is very little (except for the smoke one) and the distance you can shoot isn't very long (it is a water gun, not a sniper rifle), I'd say that this 2 limitations can fill the "lack of emission" of the user and make the Hatsu viable.

However I have to renounce to the ambushing and smoke signal aspect of the smoke ability, since it requires to keep aura emitted for a longer time. Also I can add a logical limitation, which would be that a liquid that has been shot, only lasts transmuted for 3 seconds (usually enough time to do its job).

About this, I found this on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler#Physical_principles

The liquid I described works like sweat or alcohol, but evaporating faster and draining more energy. And if I understood well what wikipedia said, the cooler the temperature is and the less humidity there is in the environment, the more effective it is.

Well, even if those limitations where enough to kinda even out with the hatsu weakening due to using a lot of emission I don't think it is necessarily good enough. The issue here is that the emission part is simply too important and in the end you just even out with its drawbacks. Just evening out is an inconvenient IMO. Take a look at gon's rock. his screaming the name of the technique and the time it takes him to charge it gives him a sort of bonus when using the technique. Basically the technique ends up having more power than what gon himself puts in there so to speak. In turn with your ability you are just kinda evening out which puts you at a disadvantage against people who use their main nen type more. See my point? Thats why I suggested having a main nen type as emission would make more sense. Your techniques get to keep their power when used. All you need to do is make a nen gun rather than a conjured one.

Thinking about it there would be issues with that too. Making a nen gun is transformation and making each type of bullet so to speak also requires transformation. Basically you have to learn to transmute nen into 5 or so entirely different things with only a 60% acquisition rate. I guess it is doable but it will definitely take a long time to develop, let alone master. I guess that can be offset by the fact that the transmutations are all at large rather simple, once you get the form you can simply change to the next. Or perhaps the best alternative would be to use an actual gun rather than to make one. Manipulation is close enough to emission to make sense and then you simply have to make the bullets with each type of nen both of which are transmutation (unless you feel the need to conjure the bullets themselves which is perhaps doable as it involves simple shapes rather than complex objects).

Rather than Materializing the gun/bullets, he can just emitt those shots from his hand. As someone else said, Transmuting the emitted shots isn' that bad with 60%.
He could also have some sort of limitations of how he shoots them or if there is something he has to do before doing so in order to increase its powers. This can be that he has to shape his hand as a gun when shooting and "reloading" when he need to reload :p
I think that anything envolves having your nen away from your body is basically an emittion ability, unless it isn't the main thing about the ability.

I don't think something not being the main thing of the ability has anything to do with whether or not it is emission. Many hatsu are basically a combination of different nens to begin with so any hatsu which involves the user even in the vaguest form separating nen from his body is basically emitting. Materialization would not need emission as he is creating real objects which are not actually need and manipulation as far as we know does not need emission to control stuff.

Well, thinking about it the main issue here would be that the technique requires transmutation into several elements. Transmuting your nen into one thing is supposed to be hard enough as it is (it took gon a decent while to get scissor and killua is not even supposed to be able to transmute his nen into electricity who knows when according to bisk). Getting 5 different shots plus the bullets should be quite time consuming... You would still be developing the basic form of your nen by the time others would have had that down for a while. In a worst cases scenario you have to get to transmuting the gun and bullets too which would be faster than the other stuff but still time consuming.

Perhaps a better approach then would be to get back to conjuration. You conjure the gun and what it fires depends on fulfilling a bunch of pledges and conditions perhaps like what kaito did with his own weapon. As everything would be conjured there would be no need for transmutation or emission to begin with.

With Specialization there is room for a whole bunch of really specific Hatsu. It was funny. I don't know why, but today, while on the phone with a friend, I had the idea of a Hatsu that allowed you to know if the person you were on the phone with was naked or not.

Well, fell free to start one. It would definitely be fun and it would definitely add some new perspectives on the hatsu a lot of members have thought of.

Ask any supermod first. I had this idea going on and I couldn't get it trough.I don't hold any power to do that kind of stuff anymore and sadly I'm busier now than I ever was.
