Losing an eye is different from losing an arm though, and if Zoro beats Mihawk despite being able to see with one eye, that would probably elevate him to an even higher standing than Mihawk ever was, and maybe even higher than Shanks.
I'd it different? because Oda said Shanks didnt lose any power by losing his arm and this is shown by Shanks blocking both Whitebeard and a blood lusted Akainu.

Mihawk still refused to fight him

I have no doubt Zoro will eventually reach Mihawk/Shanks level but if its Mihawk vs Zoro then Mihawk is a hypocrite. None of us are under the delusion that Zoro will not be WSS by this manga's end so I'm not worried about him losing or the hype surrounding him, just pointing out a glaring plot point

Losing an eye is a huge weakness, it affects depth perception and reaction time.

I wonder how Mihawk sees zoro now, more as a rival or a pupil?
Because I can see Mihawk and zoro having a master disciple relationship, and Mihawk beeing attached to zoro no longer seeing him as a rival but like shanks with luffy as the man who will inevitably surpass him.

Also can't wait for zoro to be on mihawk and Shanks level

i don't think it's master-disciple relationship, more like senior-junior relationship
so the rivalry is still hot and ongoing

Oda may have said this, but Mihawk doesn't seem to agree, otherwise he'd continue sparring with SHanks. And despite what Oda says, it's what manga shows us that matters. Both Mihawk said it was unfair to fight a cripple, while Shanks did manage to block Akainu's magma punch.

Zoro doesn't lose his strength though, and he can make up for the loss with Color of Observation.

The manga didnt show us one armed Shanks vs Mihawk tho, so that there refutes your arguement out right.

What Oda says is far an away more factual than what a character thinks. That's not even up for debate. Many character THINK a certain way, only to be proven wrong. This is the author of his own story saying Shanks lost NONE of his strength, very clearly

Mihawk has never fought a 1 armed Shanks so he has NO IDEA how strong Shanks is now. We do know that Shanks can casually stop a blood lusted Akainu (whose df is the most offensively powerful in the manga) as well as casually clash blades with Whitebeard and split the sky....

Where as Mihawk has 0 feats worthy of claiming his title as WSS.

Zoro losing his eye effects depth perception and his reaction time. That is fact.

That is just as big a disability.

The manga does show Mihawk considers one arm to be a handicap though. He's probably wrong, but that's what he think, likely because Shanks went from two hands to one and not just because he has one arm now. If that makes sense.

What Oda says is not factual, it's what he shows in the manga. Oda can tell us Mihawk is the strongest but have him lose to Vista easily.

How is it as big a disability if Color of Observation can help him get around that? I actually wouldn't be shocked if Zoro willingly let his eye get damaged just to improve his Color of Observation.

But eventually Mihawk WILL lose. We readers rely on the Author of their own manga to fill in pieces to the story for us. What your basically saying is that we shouldn't listen to the author of his own manga. That's ridiculous. Do you know how many SBS's, Data books, and interviews we would have to disregard?

Yes, he CONSIDERS it a handicap. It doesn't mean it is. You do make sense here and I agree with you.

I'm not 100% sure the loss of an eye a disability (see Admiral Fujitora hahaha). Just like I'm not so sure only having 1 arm to fight is a disability (It sure as hell doesn't seem like it to me when Shanks can no diff block a blood lusted Akainu, Clash with Whitebeard, Threaten to take on all of Marineford that included 3 near healthy Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and a future Yonko.)

Not a single person in marineford wanted to fuck with Shanks.

My original point is that Mihawk cant pic and choose what he sees as a disability. It's ridiculous. What does he consider a weakness and is it fair for the WSS to pic and choose his fighters.

Another point I want to make If Zoro defeated Mihawk with just one eye, you can be sure as hell that people (maybe you) are going to be crying "OMG ZORO DEFEATED MIHAWK WITH ONLY 1 EYE!!!" Like it was a disability all along when we don't know if it's a handicap or not.

I'm Lexusflame and thank you for coming to my Tedtalk

Maybe with Shanks arm missing, Mihawk has nothing left to chop off and hence doesnt see a challenge....

Also, i posted it before that Shanks was probably a left handed swordsmen. Here is some more evidence

Or alternately, if shanks was a two handed swordsmen, then losing an arm is a disability whether or not Shanks was left or right handed.

I believe Shanks and Mihawk were friends and would duel every now and then. Shanks has grown stronger since then but as a swordsmen, remains weaker.

Regarding Zoro vs Mihawk, they dont have the same relationship to begin with. Mihawk refusing to fight Shanks was purely because of their friendship, while Zoro and Mihawk was always about getting stronger. Besides, Zoro doesnt have to beat Mihawk to become the strongest swordsmen. He just has to beat anyone Mihawk falls to which is what i think will happen. Mihawk will lose to Shiliyu and Zoro will beat him.

Mihawk refusing to fight Shanks was purely because of their friendship

No proof of this.
Mihawk clearly says he doesn't want to fight a cripple and personally feels it's not worth fighting Shanks now and Mihawk has a point. Because despite the contrary, Mihaek feels Shanks wouldn't be at 100%

Now this is disproved by Oda who stated Shanks lost none of his strength despite losing an arm.

I agree Shanks was probably left handed, but that didnt disqualify him from being a Yonko. His strength, despite how Mihawk feels, is still absolute.

imo, i don't think one-handed or two-handed would matter much
zoro easily defeat hachi and that hyozou who wields more than three swords
at the end, it depends on sword skills and haki.

OK, i see your point. I cannot prove their friendship just cause they shared a drink. I can suggest or guess Mihawk refused to fight him in marinefold because of respect for him, does that sound fair?
Again, Mihawk and Shanks would only fight as a duel IMHO, not necessarily to kill each other. There is no proof for both anyways.

In Zoro's own words, its not not 3 swords, its 3 swords style.
Again, Shanks being a left handed or 2 handed / 2 sword style swordsmen is only being brought up as a possible reason for Mihawk to lose interest in fighting him when he loses an arm.

No I know there friends or at least on good terms with eachother. I just think that isn't the reason why Mihawk refuses to fight him. I should have clarified, my bad.

I feel Mihawk honestly thinks the odds are in his favor if he continued to duel Shanks.

I have always said that Shanks>Mihawk BUT Mihawk>Shanks in swordsmanship. One arm or not.

This entire scenario is only if Zoro really does have a fucked up eye. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS THE CASE. I think Zoro has 2 fully functional eyes and that the closed one is going to enhance his haki to Mihawk-level CoO.

Agreed.

The closed eye theory is definitely a possibility...
Anyways, I dont think neither Luffy vs Shanks nor Zoro vs Mihawk will happen.
Zoro will receive that title by achieving something Mihawk hasnt done ever, like cutting diamonds for instance or beating someone.

So who you all think Zoro will lost to miserably and lose a sword to gain new ones? Of course he get development and comeback, but knowing Oda especially giving him new sword, he would have to lose badly to start it.

Do you think its Orochi or be different higher-up that close to Calamity/Orochi's power? Hoping to see pre-timeskip Zoro struggle in this arc after his first fight with Hawkins. Can't wait to see this development in the arc ;).

Zoro never lost to make a comeback in the same arc, he either won or he lost so my guess is, he will keep winning in this arc since he cannot afford a loss in this scenario since an individual able to beat Zoro would be dangerous for everyone in this arc and such opponents cannot be left undefeated.

He didn't win with Hawkins. Oda won't make him unbeatable if you truly believe that. He need to be realistic instead easily beating others. Fodders are fine, but now that we facing a Yonko crew, Oda will put things harder for everyone including him.

Zoro will get a new sword, but need to lose to show it. As well show development on himself so it be worthwhile. If he wins with no struggle or sense of lost, it won't feel the same when we see him in pre-timeskip. I always enjoy Zoro struggle and showing effort as the fight goes. Knowing Oda he treat things unfavorable for him until eventual comeback. Hoping to see that in that in the arc.

What's wrong with disregarding interviews? SBS and databooks can't be taken 100% seriously either until the manga's over, especially since because Oda's not gonna tell us everything. Didn't a databook imply Sabo's death? And yet the manga shows differently.

And it doesn't matter whether Mihawk will lose or not eventually. Point was that mangaka can say one thing and do another thing, he can say Mihawk will never lose to anyone but Zoro but have Mihawk lose to Vista and Shillew way before Zoro.
Yes, he CONSIDERS it a handicap. It doesn't mean it is. You do make sense here and I agree with you.
I think that's ultimately what I'm trying to say, and why he'd be okay with fighting Zoro but not SHanks.

Yes he can. And he's the strongest swordsman in the world, like the wealthy he can do anything he wants. He can refuse to fight Shanks because Shanks' fighting style is inferior, at least in Mihawk's point of view, while being okay with fighting Zoro because Zoro doesn't seem to be hampered by a loss of eye.

He never had a fight with Hawkins.

Who said he will get new one?
He fight him early dude. It wasn't in his good favor for him.

The arc is hinting Zoro will get a new sword after his other one break. Probably the one Luffy has.

Do you know what a fight is? Can you separate it from a clash? Do you know what a defeat is?

Zoro has 3 good swords, he doesnt need new one. Chance of him getting a new sword is same as not getting it. It's just an option you favor.
