Every time Zoro is in a pinch he says his dream and specifically says strongest, never has he referred to his goal as being greatest but always as strongest

versus pica (ch 745 don't know the episode) sub and manga has him saying greatest...

if it was an error it would've been corrected by now.

But I'm not saying I don't want to see that, only that I don't find what he's doing underwhelming or meaningless either. At least Shiryu and Mihawk are waiting ahead for him, and probably more, so I'm okay with waiting.

I haven't given it much thought, but I think Zoro defeating a variety of opponents with different skills is more interesting than having him defeat other "pure" swordsmen over and over again.
I know you aren't saying that, I was just pointing out that the difference of opinion is that some, such as yourself, are fine with him fighting against those variety of strong opponents as he works towards his goal, while others, such as myself, would have preferred if he had more fights with swordspeople along the way.

I don't think any of us are saying that we wouldn't have wanted the odd non-swordsperson fight at all, we just would like to have seen more sword duels from him.

Who the hell cares whether he said strongest or greatest? Point is, he wants to be the best swordsman, nothing less. This seems like a silly thing to argue over.

if he said strongest... well, he didn't, so it doesn't matter :datass

he said greatest. so that means that something like him beating mihawk wouldn't necessarily fulfilling his dream; it'd merely be a stepping stone towards it.

"greatest" is more narratively interesting anyway.

as pointed out in this thread, strongest could be achieved by simply getting lucky in a fight, but greatest would require way more than that.

also the problem with his lack of actual sword fights would be alleviated. with strongest, it doesn't make much sense for him not to be in regular sword fights with peers, but with "greatest"-

he simply has to outshine them. :datass(got to put the glasses back on. zoro's greatness shinning too bright)

who cares? Why's it important? What does it change? Why is it worth at least one page's worth of shitty arguments?

Bro, for the love of everything Japan, Zoro EoS will be stronger than every other swordsman.

Done. Debate Ended.

I honestly thought cause we went to wano of all places zoro would finally have official sword matches very similarly to musashi Miyamoto.

I wish he had more matches against swordsman but I guess it’s not going to happen excluding before Mihawk or after he becomes wss.

He is about to fight BM alongside Kaido, who happens to be a swordsman.
If that's not a good swordsman match, idk what can satisfy you.

We’re talking about zoro not Luffy. This is five on two. Not a duel one on one Mano e Mano. If you’re satisfied with zoro jumping yonkou with Luffy kid killer and law that’s fine. I’m not.

Secondly kaido is not a swordsman and zoro specifically said he wants to crush kaido not big mom.

You’d think zoros name would spread at some point as mihawks disciple and we’d come across someone who asked him to be a teacher before or even challenges him out of jealousy. Personally I think being trained by Mihawk for the two years he did bring him above and beyond most if not the majority of his competition. I just think it’s odd he’s had no challengers and it would be nice to have someone in samurai country or prior to his final duel with Mihawk.

Do people even know Mihawk trained him? Mihawk told no one, Zoro told no one, Perona likely told no one, and Mihawk wasn't even the one who accompanied him to Sabaody.

There was a book that came out about Zoro, Idk if it's canon or not. But marines actually debated who was the best swordsman. And the marines debated of it was Zoro, Mihawk, Vista, or Shanks.

If it is canon thats means Zoro is at least on the radar.

I have to find it.

While it's an interesting piece of trivia, those were some marines on their time off on Dressrosa a short time after they saw Zoro defeat Pica, so it's to be expected that he was included in the conversation. Otherwise he still hasn't shown the world how strong he is now to deserve any kind of praise like that.

It's also interesting to see that inuniverse Shanks really is considered "a swordsman" by the people.

They make the point of saying Shanks did nothing impressive with his sword so Shanks is probably not as well known for his swordsmanship than Zoro or Mihawk.

I checked and while its "offical" its not authored by Oda so I guess it doesn't count. Still a good read

Whether it's canon or not (it's not) it's still interesting to see. At some point Zoro has to start gaining some notoriety in terms of swordsman.

Honestly that's just weird, it's the equivalent of someone asking during the Jaya arc if the strongest man in the world was "Luffy, Bellamy or Whitebeard?"

I don’t think so. Honestly I just want more of the crew to be recognized and respected. Shit feared even. In zoros case at least other swordsman recognizing him as one the next who may defeat Mihawk or is a likely candidate but must prove himself further.

Hmm when was this released? I’m interested but also I hope shanks moves fast by the end of wano. Tired of these debates about his abilities how strong he is or what his true purpose is smh. Once it is revealed I’m confident one piece is truly ending soon. Until then I looks like another 7 years to me.

This is an all out war, not a mano e mano. Imaginary 1vs1 scenarios in such a setting are close to impossible.
I am fine with Zoro jumping on both Yonkos with the other 4, why wouldnt I be...
He will obviously fight Big Mom and Kaido both, just like the other 4 will as well.

An Emperor swordsman being among his challenges in swordsmen country is as good as it gets, there is no stronger swordsman present in Wano.
There are plenty of challenges for Zoro left, all his swordsmen challenges are in the top tier echelon, that's why he didnt face them in pre-TS...
BM, Shiryu, Kizaru/Gandhi, Mihawk are all end game challenges and all will cross Zoro's path soon enough.

Zoro's name wont spread as Mihawk's disciple, nobody even knows that he trained under him except Strawhats and Perona.
His name will spread as Kaido's murderer. Story is not about someone challenging Zoro, it's about Zoro challenging the best out there.
And the best comes last.
