She had a change of heart and helped Fairy Tail massively in their fight against Grimoire Heart. In addition, she's my favourite pre-timeskip character, but I don't think that this would clinch it for you.

Damn you guys, I wanted to be the one to nominate her first (why was I so slow!).

I support the nomination for Schierke from Berserk. Best addition to Guts' party by far. She's basically a necessity to the team's survival, unlike the others. When Schierke was introduced in Berserk, the manga jumped up several levels for me. She's such an epic character, and brings so much to the story, whether it's her incredible magic spells and talents, or the touch of sane young girl thrown into a world of chaos and brutality. She's the beacon of light in the world.

its pretty obvious that anyone besides Natsu and Lucy isnt a lead character in Fairy Tail

Oh really? I actually thought it's a main character quartet of Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Elsa. The latter ones are way too often on covers and had their own arcs (Deliora/Tower of Paradise) for being simple "supporters". Elsa and Gray also had bigger fights than Lucy and showed as much as character development as her, even more than Natsu. For as much as I love Elsa - speaking of her as "supporter" is in my opinion too disregardful. No offense intended - I just would have expected and liked to see her being nominated for Best Female Lead instead before I found Nami from OP... :P

I'd like to nominate Fu Chinlan (Emu Hino) from Crying Freeman for Best Female Support.

Imho, the embodiment of Support, motivated by an unconditional (mutual) love.

I'll vote for Inoue Orihime from Bleach for the Best Female Support
She stays strong even when she had experienced terrible memories (parents being killed, brother tried to eat her, bullied by schoolmates, having her friends get killed before her eyes, mental tortured by the Arrancar's, etc). Orihime also stays true to her friends to the extent of willing to sacrifice herself in exchange for their safety. Her loyalty and feelings towards Ichigo, too, never falters, which actually touch me
And not to mention the fact if it wasn't for her healing power, everyone, and literally everyone, would already be dead
