Re: What anime pairings(yaoi) do you like?
My favorite BL alltime pairing is and will always be Subaru and Seishiro from Tokyo Babylon and X 1999. This is my longest and dearest pairing and the only one that could grab me emotionally so deeply that I couldn't read any other series for a while.
I'm not a very big fan of non-yaoi-series pairings like NaruSasu. While I like to read
good doujinshi about them and surely also fangirl when the topic comes up, I classify them always lower than original boys love pairings. It's just more satisfying to me when I see that it's intended by the mangaka as well and not just a simple fangirls dream >.>
Aside from the first named pairing, I have a lot favorites (from Gravitation, Yami no Matsuei, Togainu no Chi, Kizuna, ect ect ect ....). But I'm about to take a nap right now, so maybe later
Why does there always have to be top and a bottom in every yaoi (and yuri) pairing I've seen?
It's a media created by women for women, so naturally it contained the female view on a relationship and therefor developed into a direction where one of the guys had the 'classic male role' (active, dominant, giving) and the other the 'classic female role' (passive, bearing, receiving).
A recently often discussed reasons why gay pornographic is appealing to female readers so much is simply that they can switch neutrally between both roles without being bound to a 'female body' while in 'classic' hetero pornographic media (aimed at men) the female partner is often fixed on certain stereotypes which, regardless of dominant or passive, always have the goal to satisfy the male partner in the first place. The view on a yaoi couple allows to break free from such restrictions since it doesn't involve the own gender. You can be what you like to be and if necessary even switch inbetween - mostly subconsciously.
However, the strict seme/uke schema of 'classic yaoi' is changing since some years. More and more series feature partners who switch the roles during the story, giving them a feeling to be equal. You still have to search for fully equal partners but honestly, they're kinda impossible in real life as well so I don't see a problem here
