Yes. We have similar sentiment. I tried to watch High School Musical, hoping to understand my younger brother's ramblings about the movie. But man, I got traumatized.

Well, now that you asked, it's not more like we (i.e. me and other people out there I oddly represent)
like it. It's because we as a generation (80s babies, etc) grew up with Disney making cartoons infused with a lot of songs in them, with a lot of performance-style presentation, pretty and colorful looking things, with the very classic themes of love as the core of the stories (think pre-
Lilo and Stitch).
Somehow as kids and their intelligence evolved, they made animation/movies that leaned more on the smarter and cuter side (
Finding Nemo, Shrek...). Admittedly the stories were more dynamic, more complicated, and definitely more engaging, with plot twists here and there, which kids of today apparently get.
But take note: to put these stories with more content across in the same alotted time, they had to pull it off sans the musicals, the collages of color and theatrics, to make way for the jokes and cute moments.
So when
High School Musical came out, the kids were refreshed with this kind of idea. It was such a no-brainer, with very singable songs, steps that any kid, 80s, 90s or millenium babies couldn't resist, and something that they missed amidst all the thinking cartoons they'd been watching.
Thus *draws long breath* it's not really that people
like it like love it (or to some extent, maybe), but my theory is that it's moreso on the reintroduction or recycling of classic style that nobody has seen or heard for a very long time (classic as defined timeless, works every time, etc).

i love to hang out at simple bars though, you know where there are only five tables and one videoke, kasama mo yung mga tambay. great place for laughs and conversations. just dont relax in these places, watch your back
