Not that I'm dissing Sket... but I wouldn't say that it deserves to be animated for fall... I mean for one, Gintama didn't get animated until almost 2.5 year into serialization, with a 6~8 average ranking at the time... Sket isn't even 2 years old at the moment, with a 10~15 average this year thus far...

I can see it getting one next year, late winter or early spring, but fall this year? It's a bit of stretch if you ask me...
Gintama's announcement was exactly at the 2 year mark for the manga...remember, anime announcements usually occur for the spring in December/January and Gintama started in Dec. '03.

As for Pierrot with Tegami Bachi...hmm...may want to keep an eye on that. (if Bleach runs through the current continuity and runs out by September, it could be a replacement...but then again, it could just be another Jump anime in general)

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I do think people shouldn't forget that it's TV channels who prolly decide about what's getting aired and what's not. It doesn't go along with manga popularity - though years can be indeed taken into consideration.

look at hatsukoi eg. That series wasn't popular in jump, getting a cut but in contrast to mx0, or even better, muhyo; hatsukoi is animated because TV-channels can work something out with the concept whereas some other like muhyo aren't appealing
Koe, let's not complicate things by jumping ahead to these exceptions... I mean Busou Renkin got a TV anime as well even though it didn't make it to the two year mark.

While I can see your argument of how TV-channels can or cannot work something out of the story, you're forgetting how late-night animation programs are able to overlook this issue. In my opinion, it is now more for the animation studios and directors picking what they like as oppose to TV stations coming up with something with broad-appeal viewers.

I mean let's face it, a lot of Shoujo Manga to Anime of late aren't what I would called broad-appeal works.

I think Jump will want a new series to replace Hatsukoi in the fall. Sket is the only series that is ready. Well, unless they wanted to go with Muhyo or Mx0 but don't hold your breath...

Unless they just count Letter Bee as it.

Nothing replaced ToRa last fall. What makes you think something will replace Hatsukoi?

They should make an anime (or OVA) of smaller manga's. Like Hitomi no Catoblepas, Muddy or Samurai Usagi.

Okay, they got cancelled (SU not, if I'm correct), but I think they would do good as OVA's, Muddy can attract enough people, and so can Catoblepas.

They didn't do good as manga's, but not everyone reads manga.

I'm confused with replacing one anime with another from the same magazine logic... where did that even come from?

Give it up, Ataru; Bleach is not going anywhere.

Seems like it I hear Kubo wants to continue for a few good years still.

Plenty of anime end before their manga do, even while being really popular.

For an example, Bleach is in a similar situation to what Prince of Tennis is, except Bleach's ratings are much lower than Prince of Tennis's were (PoT routinely beat Pokemon and Naruto in the ratings).

Essentially, they've done tons of filler and still have virtually no material from the manga to animate.

It wouldn't shock me for them to take Bleach off the air.

What do you mean by no material to animate? Admittedly I don't watch the anime so...I guess there isn't much material to make fillers out of.

Naruto has also been doing a lot of fillers, but after that there probably won't fillers for a long time. One Piece anime seems to be the best in terms of sticking to the manga closely, though Naruto part 1 FTW.

I sorta agree, I mean someone mentioned Hatsukoi, it's only going to last 12 episodes as opposed to Ichigo 100% that also lasted 13 episodes. I don't have to say it, but the latter lasted much longer, so the animation companies probably aren't looking too much at how long a series is and more of how they can market it. In the aformentioned example of Hatsukoi and Ichigo 100%, both were light romance with comedy and ecchi, such genres usually doesn't get that long of a run nowadays, since they usually get supplemented with OVAs in the future, like the treatment TLR and Ichigo 100% received.

no material as in the anime isn't really that far behind the manga, and when 2 months of manga can translate to one episode that doesn't bode well

Well that depends, Naruto Shippuuden did an almost too good of a job stretching two chapters or even one into an entire episode.

God knows >.<

There's always been this mind set that Jump will automatically get two anime a year. That didn't happen in 2007 or 2008. There is nothing to say Sket Dance won't get an anime in October, but just because a series has enough chapters for adaption doesn't mean it will. If Jump were smart they would follow the lead of Shonen Magazine and adapt anything they can into dramas. Sket and Bakuman would do just as well in that format.

if not better...............

well..... bakuman probably wouldn't do well in any adaptation other than VOMIC (at best) but drama could work

That wouldn't be too hard... they can just come up with a side quest for a short adventure for a cuisine. :p

As for 2 Jump anime series per year... erm..

First of all, I really don't think it makes sense to count a 13 episode late night series the same as a long running one (50+ episode) in the afternoon/early evening.

Also, I don't really see why Jump should be treated any different as any other magazines out there... The shoujo magazine "LaLa" had 3 series being animated in 2006, then nothing in 2007, 2 again in 2008. It's just the way it is.
