Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Maybe they intend to speed things up and release the volumes fast or something.
I know Naruto is on like, the same or one behind in volumes, cuz of popularity.
And HXH is like that, more so for the fact that it doesn't come out constantly.
It'll be nice for OP to get some attention.

Speaking of HXH, there's a new rumor that it'll resume in issue 32 of this year, seeing as the "beginning of June" rumor was false.

http://changi.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/wcomic/1240859067/921

Translation is:
I saw in issue 25.
In the comics advanced notices, Volume 27 will go on sale in July.
It said that it'll reserialize for 8 weeks from issue 32.
It's reduced by two weeks, but I want to be able to read it.

So if someone finds a scan of the preview page, see if this is true.

There's open space, D. Gray Man has not been replaced, if H x H returned this summer it would make sense.

It's fake... at least according to one of the One Piece occasional raw provider/spoiler poster Dragon (◆LLMuwvYaMU)

I mean how likely is it for both Himajin and Mei to miss this kind of big news?

Yeah, guess that makes sense. Ah well.
Really it'll probably show up again soon.

Togashi is having a competition with Hagiwara on who can be a bigger slacker... :p:p

HxH will finish the same time as Bastard... (lol)
Hagiwara's even worse than Togashi, though, isn't he? I mean, Bastard is ten years older than Hunter X Hunter, and they're both of about the same length...

Bastard has a 8 years break in between, though. It was published in WSJ from 1988-1989 and then again from 1997–2000. Since 2001 it's irregularly published in Ultra Jump (monthly mag). Given these circumstances, I think it has a lot volumes. Ah My Goddess which started in 1988 in a monthly mag and was published without a longer break, AFAIK, is only 10 volumes ahead of Bastard.

HxH has especially many short hiatuses from the very start:
http://comipress.com/article/2007/02/11/1492

In the end, they're both terrible regarding their serialization but they're not the only ones. I have so many (old) manga on my 'hiatus by author' list, partly being on hold since years, it hurts. CLAMP is a good example on such behavior, Murakami Maki and Takashima Kazusa are not better and I would die to read the end of the Evangelion manga. Only worse is when mangaka claim the series as finished out of the blue and repeatably rush into the end in the middle of the story, e.g. Natsume Yoshinori. There you have my reason why I do not collect ongoing series >.<

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Not sure if the laziness of Togashi can be compared with Berserk's irregular release date. HxH is a mammoth seller and Shueisha obviously has no problem with Togashi coming back every so often with enough material for a tankoubon since it easily sells a million copies every time. But while Miura isn't much better with the infrequency, he refuses to have assistants and draws everything by hand. Anyone who reads Berserk knows that very few manga-ka can compete with the detailed and complex art Miura puts out (maybe Inoue). He's stated so himself that he works 14-hour days and when the series goes on hiatus, it doesn't mean he's on vacation; he's constantly working. The longer the hiatus is, the more detailed the art usually is in the proceeding chapters. If we were to compare the effort that goes into a chapter of HxH to the effort in a chapter of Berserk, they're light-years apart. Togashi appears to draw it with a ballpoint ben, lol. I know the tankoubon art is touched up dramatically, but to put material out so infrequently, and still not be able to put out a finished product under the deadline is sort of ridiculous to me.

Nope, it was actually moved to Zoukan WSJ, which is what later became Akamaru, in 1989. It was then moved back to WSJ (as once a month series) in 97, and stopped in 2000. After a year, it restarted again in Ultra Jump.

So in reality, there was only about a year of halting, between 2000 and 2001 :p

Yet it's at least 5 years worth behind of Ah! My Goddess (2 tanks per year is the speed of AMG)... so you can see how much a slacker he really is... ;);)

xi0,

*cough* Bastard *cough*

I have no beef with the way Berserk is going, since it doesn't show the symptoms of a slacker. However, if you just look at the most recent chapters of Bastard I've uploaded, you'll see what I'm saying ;)

I know that Berserk was brought up by mistake, but it was still commented on, lol.

I'm a fanboy I guess, so I had to give my two cents. It's a personality defect of mine :p

It's been a while since two series had debuted together that had such great art. Depending on where Medaka Box and Akaboshi go plot-wise, it only complicates the ToC situation more IMO. In other words, unless the two are completely shallow and uninspiring, we can't consider them as a cushions for series like Psyren, Sket Dance, and Mago.

K.O.Sen, Meister/MyStar, and Dogashi all had pretty decent art on top of interesting character and good first chapter... but they all crashed Orz

Currently, I'm leaning toward "Buy" for the Medaka stock, and "Hold" for Akaboshi... but I don't think we can really form a more concrete opinion untill maybe Chapter 4 :D:D

I was looking up three (usually reliable) sources before posting that since I had a third magazine in my head but they all left 1989-1997 completely open. Now that you give me the mag title, I find it... weird >.<

True, he's a slacker² yet a awesome slacker. I gladly wait on every new volume o/

Though, 5 years out of 21 is still a good ratio, me thinks. I clearly wouldn't have the patience and motivation to draw the same stuff over two decades. Must be tiresome after a while.

Wait, what?

What the hell do they have to do with each other? Rito is the typical ecchi loser who doesn't know how to deal with girls, Zenkichi is a pessimist who's always facepalming at everything. They have absolutely nothing in common. I mean, not even their looks. Nothing at all.

If you want to compare Zenkichi to another character, compare him to Kyon from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. That I would understand. <_<

So it's definitely sure that hoop is a new cushion. I do believe with the upcoming serie of one shots, it's kinda proven what I said before: no new jump series untill our new ones are rated.

So for me it's maybe the time to end hoop men and TLR in the near future

I don't know about which level (story, genre, art,...) you are talking but medaka is definitely something in sket dance's league (and not in TLR at this moment)

Inaccurate comparison. Rito is nothing like Zenkichi and Lala is nothing like Medaka.

Hoop

Hoop continues to be a good little cushion.

Mago so low when it has gotten to the most interesting of arcs is depressing. Sket needs to get its weight up too. >:

Important announcement? I wonder what it could be. Nothing as drastic as ending I wouldn't think since the series has been continuing for decades.

Hmm would this be Inumaru's first color since its beginning stages?

Also it is raining one-shots. I assume that is the spot DGM had if Medaka Box replaced Bokke and Akaboshi replaced Neuro.

Hmm, nice for Kochi. That big announcement makes me curious.

I just looked Mr. Matsumoto up and he's a newbie who just won a newcomer award in 05 with a series called ネコロマンサー (Neko Romancer, I guess). That story was later published in 06's Winter Akamaru.

Hmm would this be Inumaru's first color since its beginning stages?
Nope, it's already its third or fourth CP in 09.

The big announcement caught my attention ^^

Issue 27 is so bland. Inumaru with center color :/ Meh.

A Kochikame drama would be absurdly amazing :3
