Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Gintama seems like Kochikame, a series that can be serialized for a long, long time. Not that I think it will; who knows if that's what Sorachi wants and Kochikame was more popular in it's prime then Gintama ever was. Realistically, if a currently popular series were to fall on hard times, my guess would be Reborn. . It's yo - yo'ing less the Gin, has had fewer bottom five appearances, but has been consistantly mediocre. Might not mean much, for either series. Plenty maintain great sales despite low rankings.

it makes one wonder how certain series remain at the top for so long...
Like them or not, One Piece and Naruto are pretty impressive. After ten and twelve years they own the top two spots. Until Gintama, nothing displaced them at number one this year. Naruto is seemingly more popular now then it was this time last year.

How can it be possible that either one of them are in danger? They are both 25+ volumes, have 100+ anime episodes and sell in the upper hundred thousands every time a volume is released. It would be a slap in the mangaka's faces to even consider rushing them now.

Just the fact that they are willing to dish out cash for fillers has to mean something. However, the anime catching up to the manga is causing lackluster filler (well on reborn's half anyways) so with time, something's gotta give.

Not so sure there in danger. More like they are showing signs of weakness. Then again D. Gray Man has had incredible staying power despite not polling well. That was a bit like Bakuman and Mago, started strong in the polls, then plummeted, but had good tankobon sales almost from the beginning.

I think To Love-ru would be in more danger of getting canceled than those Gintama or Reborn. I'm not sure how the graphic novels sell in comparison to those two but they should probably be pretty close.

I mean To Love-ru is consistently at the bottom unless some series seriously tanks. I think Jump would cancel it before they would cancel another high selling series that does much better in the rankings.

Gintama and Reborn both outsell ToRa by a considerable amount. ToRa's fanbase is harder to judge as most of Jump's audience is young and they don't want to vote for it and look like perverts (thanks Bakuman :)). It's sales, while not as high as Gin and Reborn are very strong, and it is one of the few Jump series that appeals to readers over 17. Surprisingly, D. Gray Man sells a little better then all of them.

Well then now I definitely think To Love-ru should go before Gintama and Reborn (even though I kinda want Reborn to go anyway).

When being next to a manga that isn't placed pretty much means certain death, its time to cancel it. lol

lol. It's not easy to cancel a series that sells almost 500,000 copies per volume. To Love Ru makes Shueisha money, something that's much harder to argue about then TOC placement.

Just to clarify, did naruto, bleach, one piece, reborn or d.gray-man manage to sell 500k or more from the first volume?

Am loving Reborn and Jaguar's covers.

That would be the final Neuro cover too, yeah?

I'm still in love with the Jaguar cover...it appeals MAX.

Other than that, is it just me or does Hoopmen prove once more that it was better than Kuroko, judging from the covers this time? *smirk*

I'm a little amused, were they purposely trying to have a comparison between Kuroko and Hoop Men? Well Hoop Men has the better cover, but it seems too coincidental to me.

I know it's not in Weekly Jump, but Steel Ball Run covers are always so amazing. Beelzebub and Neuro as well. Kuroko continues to overwhelm me with blandness. Just because the main character is supposed to be boring doesn't mean everything about the series does u_u @Sloggett, volume 23 will be the last. Comes out in September.

So Reborn and Gintama have to carry the month, huh. Let's see how that goes.

Looks like August will be a great month. ^___^

I also believe Hoop Men's cover is better than Kuroko's. Kind of sucks for it lol.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Naruto's cover was pretty bad. We get Naruto's face, joy.

But Steel Ball Run makes up for it in spades. Anything that is remotely related to JJBA is awesome plus I really enjoy the art style and the pose he's in.

Neruo's cover is just as wierd as I would expect. But I got to say did Neuro get chibified? Because it looks pretty cool. And is that an apple Yako is holding? Whatever the case I think this was a pretty awesome cover, maybe the best of the group.

Kuroko and Hoopmen? I feel like their covers are really alike mainly in how the cover is made. I doubt it's a coincedence.

it was the cover for the artbook, not for a volume.
the last one had a naruto face as a cover too, though it was only a drawing without color

I feel the need to big up Hoop Men's cover. It's awesome.
