Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I found something interesting from 2ch.
that is interesting. that might explain the sudden death of TLR. i guess the mangaka really had no love for that manga. a sad case, but i'm not giving any sympathy to TLR.
Akaboshi getting out is pretty inevitable (its gonna happen sooner or later)

its quite a convincing rumor.

It does make me wonder though: how much of To-Love was Hasemi, how much was Yabuki, and how much was just editors. Maybe if Yabuki could give some sort of exit interview or something that shows how he felt about the whole thing and what control he had on that series, it could clear up some things now that it's reached this end.

These news are very interesting!
I didn't read To love-Ru so it doesn't matter to me, but i'm sorry for Akaboshi because i liked it.

P.S.
I'd want to start reading a new manga serialized in WSJ. I already read One Piece, Naruto, Bakuman and Toriko. Which one do you recommend to me? I think Bleach, Gintama, Reborn are too long...

its still a rumor, so nothing is confirmed.
for new manga, try Psyren (good, but barely surviving sadly) Nurarihyorin no Mago (a hit) or Beelzebub (comedy/delinquent. another hit).
there's also Anne-doki or Medaka Box if u are interested in school-life/romance.

Wait, what about a breach in contract? The TLR writer did that, and that's why it was cancelled so quickly? I feel like I'm missing something here. :darn

Wonder how that would've happened - what could s/he have done?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

It says "was planning to go out on issue 42 but due to a contract violation by the mangaka [I dunno the name...] it was changed to 40"

Doesn't say what he did but that sorta thing is rarely made public.

Also Akaboshi Out 43.

The rumors of HXH coming back in October are still around. The Nexgear guy Kenji01 said he'll have an announcement soon, too. It's too late for it to be September now, really.

As for the rest, it all sounds plausable. Toriko of course'll get an anime version but probably won't air till next year. It's the same scenario as with Tegami Bachi.
The others like Nurarihyon and Sket Dance make sense since they've been in Jump more than two years. (The translation was all right, by the way. Except the "planning" part could also just mean "project", but it's like they just started so it means the same thing anyway.)

D.Gray Man I guess they're making an OVA of... those like 3 tiny arcs that made up what's happened until the move to Jump SQ?

And the Yugioh thing was announced a long time ago. Unless it's something different from what's being shown at the Jump Anime Tour. But I'd assume we'd get confirmation on all of this soon.

Ah Akaboshi, and here I thought we would get more time to see if the recent improvements in story would last but sadly no :(

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I'm at a weird position with Sho Aimoto. On the one hand I liked his one-shot and how he improved his already great, unique art by being ditching the even pen lines and too much use of black & white and not enough grey present in manga like OP and Naruto (though they can make it work a lot of the time). On the other hand I'm scared his new series gets cancelled unless he either pulls of the horror-comedy-action elements quite well or make his series a lot more action based than the one-shot.

About the other new series, not much to say except that the dog looks cool. Both it and Inudashi (and perhaps Jaguar) prove that gag manga can be funny and artistically pleasing at the same time.

There has been lots of rumor on 2ch, like rumor about Mago will be cancel around issue 30, but it was a fake, and rumor about Murata and Aimoto will be returning on fall, but only Aimoto returned with newbie.

Does anybody knows the probability that the rumor from 2ch came to be true?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Rumors on 2Ch or 4Chan have to be taken with a grain of salt. Just like MH, there isn't anything stopping anyone from posting a false rumor. The poster we get the TOC and the confirmed news from is always accurate; but for everyone like him there may be 20 more who are just trolling.

Akaboshi ending in issue 43 shouldn't be a surprise. It's been in the bottom of every issue for three months. So long as Medaka and Ake Doki are safe, I'll be happy. I predict Medaka will be like Sket Dance was; constantly in the bottom five but always having a generic action series to protect it (thanks Kagijin ;))

I can only guess the breech of contract Hasemi refusing to turn in the chapters for issue 41 and 42. Don't expect him back with Shueisha.

Did Hasemi write any other series? Because this might sound cruel but looking at the last two years of To Love Ru I'm very tempted to say "nothing of value was lost". Yabuki probably could have made a better plot although that may not have made the series as popular as it was. It got a hell of a lot of mileage based on recycled plot devices and blatant fan service.

Hasemi was an assistant for Black Cat.

Oooohhhhh.

Then that at least makes this collaboration make more sense to me. :tem

Although I'm rather curious about what part of his contract he breached like the rest of us.

Actually, To Love-Ru is Hasemi's first series from manga. Hasemi usually worked screenplay for animation and game, such as Black Cat, Sugar Sugar Rune, Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z, To Love-Ru OVA, and Little Buster Q.

Hasemi was an assistant for Black Cat.
I can't find information about Hasemi being Yabuki's assistant. Where did you find it?

And Kuroko's position is somewhat surprising... :p
TLR's not in the bottom 5 no matter how you count it, for its final chapter! ;)

Kuroko can go back to the bottom and die for all I care, what the hell is it doing above Mago and Sket?

I'm glad to see Kuroko up near the top. That's a pretty good ToC, all things considered.
