No he survived the poison. And if I remember correctly, he promised to see Sanji and the other again.

Not that Im interested in his character though.
we all know how promises work, he's probably gonna show up.

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

Ok everyone i had a question..do you guys believe there was a previous generation of shichibukai? or yonkou? I mean if the golden age of piracy started when Roger died then maybe the shichibukai were created during that time to counter the sudden exponential growth of piracy, but if that were the case then it means that before Roger died there wasn't a balance between the forces of the One Piece universe, so there was..chaos? hmm... I hope that someday Oda shows us a more thorough history of the shichibukai, so far we've only seen Boa's and a bit of Jimbei.
Don't worry he has still at least 300+ chapters to go:p

Really doubt that. There should be less than 100 chapter to go. I mean the New World will be like _one_ arc. Otherwise it would be like a row of Filler arcs.

I doubt I can find the source again but I think Oda said at around OP Anime episode 320 that there are like 180 episodes to go. Anime starts ID Arc now and is at episode 417. So probably 100 episodes to go.

Uhm, srsly another 500 Episodes would be boring... I mean we have an "epic" (original meaning - not like super über battle) battle now. You can hardly build up tension after this battle, even after ID Arc, with just Eustass Kid.

Oh well, we'll see... if oda declares he has no more ideas coming up then one piece will be no longer...

if it just a race to one piece then it will be short, but there are supernovas and still new world pirates and 4 yonkou(-1 if wB is killed or get a heart attack:facepalm) it will be a new whole adventure which likely will expose the true history and more, probably ancient weapons.

Yeah... Right... :eyeroll Man, I hate to answer those posts but - seriously: Why should Oda compress The New World - which is as big as the other half of the Grand Line - into one single arc? Why should he throw away everything he did so far as big announcements (FMI, Coby's promise, Shanks' promise) and yet unresolved mysteries he created? Why should either he or Jump or Shueisha throw away the best sold manga? (Vol. 53 over 1,800,000 million copies in Japan after three months, starting with more than 1,200,000 million sold copies in the first week!)

From the economical point-of-view that would be the stupidest to bring the manga to an end within the next 100 chapters - even the next 300 chapters would still be most idiotic.

There are at least three adventures to come up:
  1. The Strawhat's Regathering (if not done within the current war Oda'll have to take at least another 18 covers/chapters)
  2. Fishmen's island (I expect at least as many chapters as Skypiea - 80 at the very minimum)
  3. Searching for/Meeting with Shanks in the NW which definetly will only be the introduction to the next (5 chapters at minimum)

Those are your "100 chapters" - and the war right now didn't even come to an end...

I even believe Oda's gonna show way more from the other Blues and hope he'll make the Strawhat's leave the GL/NW for some adventures - that Strawhat's Regathering might be the big opportunity to do so, unless the Mugiwara is able to get back to Sabaody themselves. I seriously neither Zoro nor Sanji nor Usopp nor think to be able to navigate themselves without Nami on an ocean like the GL - any of them would sink in an instant.

BTW, "I doubt I can find the source again" is not a way to even start an arguement on whether or not your suggestion is right. Since you can't find it any more, it's not even worth mentioning it. And such news would have spread through all forums much more offensive. Show it to us or stop trying to "convince" others from that opinion of yours since based on what we know and what we're about to expect - you're wrong. Same goes with your mixture of the TV show and the manga as "argument": It doesn't matter whether or not the TV show lasts only 180 episodes or less from Thriller Bark on: One Piece is published in the Jump and as Tankoubon - with great ratings from the readers.

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

I didnt put it as fact. I cannot stress that more in my posts by using "think" and "doubt". If you want to discuss only facts I suggest to go into a scientific forum. I _think_ I read it 2years ago on animeblogz.com somewhere. But yeah ID Arc wasnt that "necessary" so it will take longer.

_To me_ OP comes to a climax now. Luffy directly facing the whole Marine Force. That can hardly be topped anymore. So if there are like 500 chapters about fishmen's island / giant's island / supernovas / Yonko / Shanks / Cobi... the tension would flat out _for me_ I guess. I srsly hope that OP comes to an end within a few Arcs (2-3).

If you read a story for over a century, dont you want to know the end finally? (must be even hard to write such a manga... I mean that you dont get burnt out or want to switch to another theme because you have had enough - thanks to Oda that he keeps his work up that long!! ;) )

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

baahh those chapters remaining said by oda before was just an estimate. im sure he has not finished one piece so it should be more than 100 chapters still.. and the manga is still far off.

that means, more one piece for us ;)

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

Well if you think OP has prematurely ejaculated you better think again.

Also, you forgot: Blackbeard, Mihawk, 3 admirals, Vegapunk, revolutionaries, Doflamingo, Smoker, lost century, roger's past, Acethenewwhitebeard, etc.

Add that to the arcs above with a bit of spice and you'll still find things to keep you interested.

I mean, imagine revolutionaries with Dragon vs marines with Aokoji on Elbaf whilst the Strawhat's and Law's pirates are both visiting. That's the sort of great shit Oda will bring for you.

Dude, this is your point, it seems you're not a big fan or whatever (It's your loss!)...

i don`t think that even oda knows exactly how long it will take to finish the manga...
so in 2007 oda said he were on the halfway point but actually could be more than just 10 yrs from 2007 on, what means another 500 chapters or episodes would be obvious and would be the best gift he can give us (the real fans)

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

Look, you can't have a reasonable discussion without having facts - that's my opinion. Why? Well it's simple as it can be: Without basic facts - rumors, troll posts, news fakes are taken for granted and in the end, fans are again devided into masses of ones that believe in April Fools like Dragonball AF and other a minority that know that it's nothing but a fake.

I want meta discussions and discussions on predictions based on facts with a source for official information so everyone should be able to evaluate that piece of information brought into discussion. Furthermore, predictions on the anime version may not be translated to the manga itself since there are other mechanisms needed to produce them.

Come on - you want to have another Dragonball AF myth among fans in the end? It's already hard enough - and it's way too easy to put a rumor/misinterpreted speculation into forums and blogs which readers take for granted and spread them. AF and "Toriyama is dead" are the final proof of it.

I _think_ I read it 2years ago on animeblogz.com somewhere.
Apparently that might have been a bad prediction after all based on Oda's first statements that he planned One Piece to end after 5 years.

But yeah ID Arc wasnt that "necessary" so it will take longer.

_To me_ OP comes to a climax now.
Explaining the myth of Impel Down as introduction to this climax wasn't necessary? :blink There have always been climaxes in the different arcs. This one isn't that different from the one Oda created back in Enies Lobby. It's simply placed into a larger scaled ambience but won't lead to any big conclusions so that we're able to determine an end of the whole story within a certain number of chapters. Sure he could use the next 100 chapters after the current arc to conclude everything, but I don't think fans would accept such an end and Oda knows that for sure since he wouldn't be satisfied with it himself.

I don't think Oda will reveal every single secret - he'd be mad if he did and work on it for the next 50 years since he's the type of author that creates secrets and mysteries on-the-fly. Or at least he seems to do so - I can't determine if most of it was planned like Brook's entrance or comes out of a recent inspiration.

Luffy directly facing the whole Marine Force. That can hardly be topped anymore.
Actually, he's not: He's in the middle of a big fight between WB and two WG powers. They'll be busy with themselved and thus will create a gap for him to slip through. Even if the biggest heads were killed which would be very un-Oda-like there'd be other ones to replace them equally. And yes, I really expect one of the Admirals to succeed Sengoku in the next 250 chapters thus having one of the VAs being promoted.

So if there are like 500 chapters about fishmen's island / giant's island / supernovas / Yonko / Shanks / Cobi... the tension would flat out _for me_ I guess. I srsly hope that OP comes to an end within a few Arcs (2-3).
Oda stated on last years' that arriving at Red line marks the midway of the story - but that doesn't mean that there'll be 500 chapters ... Actually all mangaka seem to be bad at planning long term stores so I'd even predict it'll be 750+ chapters for that second part.

If you read a story for over a century, dont you want to know the end finally?
To me, the end would only matter if it was a bad written one - an overall well-written story is what's important to me.

(must be even hard to write such a manga... I mean that you dont get burnt out or want to switch to another theme because you have had enough - thanks to Oda that he keeps his work up that long!! ;) )
As it seems Oda has taken all precautions to prevent a burn-out: He has a family and many friends among the seiyuu and takes several breaks a year.

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

I just dont like the idea that this arc will have no real influence on the story. I dont want Luffy to continue his journey like he went before. That is why I can hardly imagine that he isnt forced to be at a level where he cannot just go on a fun adventure like skypia... or at least it just doesnt fit for me.

If OP loses this little seriousness it got and goes back to "lets go on an adventure and just have fun" it wouldnt even suit my personal evolement - yeah there was a bit. :)

So if this has an influence the only consequence can be that there are only a few high end "encounters" left that Luffy can challenge on his journey. WG, Vegapunk, one Yonko, BB... but yeah. We will still see...

One Piece was ALWAYS: "lets go on an adventure and just have fun" and ALWAYS will be:"lets go on an adventure and just have fun"

I think this picture sumarize it the best:

I just dont like the idea that this arc will have no real influence on the story
Of course there will be consequences. WB might die or lose influence what means the islands that he is protecting will become unstable. The WG will also lose influence and a greater bigger Pirate Age will start
The new world will be in chaos and our heroes will save the day

Just think about it a liite

Islands that have to be shown: Fishman Island. Wano Country, Elbaf and Raftel
Oda will surley introduce at least 3 new islands(probably more)

Enemies that have to be beaten: Kaido, second yonkou, BB, Flamingo, Kuma(?), Sen Goku, the 3 Adrimals, Smoker, Magellan and many many more like Silver Medalists, Supernova, New World Pirates etc.
Friends that have to be beaten: Shanks, WB(if he survives or ACE), Mihawk and maybe even Coby

Mysteries and problems that have to be solved: DF, lost history. revolutionary, World Nobles, All Blue and many many more

So how many chapters do you think will this all take?

EDIT:

From a certain Interview with ODA:

How do you think manga will change in the future?

"If it's okay to stick to Shounen Manga - I don't think it'll change at all. Boys like excitement, and that hasn't changed since ancient times. As long as I present things that I think I would have been happy to read when I was a child, the present children are bound to find it interesting. I do have a feeling that the trends in the manga world is changing, but... Yeah, I definitely think that it'd be bad to change. When I talk about not changing, it might sound like I'm saying that we should keep writing old stuff, but that's not it at all. On the contrary, I think freshness is necessary.

To put it more concretely: I want to stay at that moment when I'm writing a pirate manga with fresh things that have never existed before, and sending it into the world where the readers eat it up - the moment when I'm working like mad to send One Piece into the world. That moment has to go on unchanging.

Boys will always stay with the one who keeps creating fresh new things, that is timeless. That's why the creators have to maintain the state where we keep making original and interesting things - you could say that we have to "preserve" it.

In order to preserve this, we have to keep moving forward, even though there might be some who have the delusion that once you've reached popularity, you can just stop at that point and work on routine. But if you do that, you're no longer "preserving" - you're "regressing". To release repetitions is the same as releasing old stuff."

Even entering your eleventh year of serialization, you're still burning with enthusiasm for manga.

"I always want to keep creating something that's better than what I've ever done before. Of course, if you want more people to read your creation, you need to have that feeling."

I'm full-quoting because there's just one simple and answer to this post: 42. :blink No, wait - that's the one:

You're criticising the basics of One Piece - if Oda was going to abandon them, he'd betray the readership because there'd only be "ONE PIECE" stand as title above the chapters and the tankoubon. As Josl already said, going on an adventure just for the fun of it is a major part of this manga. Don't you think Luffy is right now at Marine HQ because of that attitude of his? It'd be a very big loss if Oda put that part from the manga - and Luffy would be very out-of-character since he already declared that this life is a big adventure for him.

If you really don't like that attitude anymore and expect some development away from it - then I'm sorry: One Piece is the wrong manga for you, or it's going to be within the next two years. Once this arc is over and the Mugiwara aren't complete we may see a Regathering arc, if they are already completely regathered they're heading for Fishmen's Island - and both will be a "Okay, let's go on an adventure." arc.

BTW: What do you mean by "Only big encounters left"? There have been lower leveled characters that made up 50 up to 100 chapters...

Thats exactly what I meant as I said another 500 chapters would be boring. Yeah, OP might become the wrong manga for me but atm I love it.

But yeah, I guess we have talked enough about my opinion/attitude. Back to another topic plz, I surrender. :)

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

Ok to set the story straight, In a SBS Oda has stated that there will be about 1000 or so chapters. I'll find the actual SBS chapter when I have more time..
This is to be his epic work like Toriyama and Dragon Ball.

For some it will be too much, but I expect for most it will be the opposite.
There has been ao much character development around the SH and only since Kuma has seperated them have other characters begun to come into the limelight.
In doing this the list of in depth and relevant characters will come into play.
Just more to love...

To each his own...as long as we are all having fun...
That is why we read manga..Right??

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

i truely think that oda will not stop OP in a long time. if it gets to the point where its at 1,000 and he still enjoys it he might very well keep goin. he said it himself that the reason he is doin OP is because he enjoys it, once its no longer fun he will be done with it.

Re: One Piece Mega Convo Thread

Well this is great news to hear as Oda has done an excellent job with the manga so far. he continues to add and weave characters, events, and the overall OP world into each arc and story. Its great to read something that actually ties the actions of not just one person, but others to things occurring the world.
