Re: Vagabond 285 Discussion / 286 Prediction Thread

Can you post this episode or link to a place where I can DL it?
Sorry, the link isn't up anymore, as a matter of fact, now they've got a dead link labeled as Vagabond #283, weird...

Also, I've been monitoring PD and Share for 284 to no avail. Hopefully, we'll get it soon.
Did you happen to notice if 285 is on there? I'm only curious because of the inconsistencies in the release times, like two different people are doing it, or whoever is doing it, maybe Vagabond isn't their first priority (what's Billy Bat's release schedule look like compared to Vagabond's? =).

P.S. Thanks to whomever added the Discussion prefix to the thread.

Re: Vagabond 282 - 283 Discussion / 284 Prediction Thread

Had to catch up in this thread!

I like to see what Musashi learns from this. In terms of raw power, skill and strategy, Ittousai maybe be greater, but I don't think his style has any form of spiritual training.
Yeah, I see that as their fundamental difference as well, or comparing old masters, the difference between the school of Ito Ittosai and Yagyu Sekishusai. It also reminds me of this great line from the novel, Musashi:

"Kojiro believed in the sword of strength and skill. Musashi believed in the sword of the spirit. This was the only difference between the two."

Inoue was obviously paying attention to that theme.

Musashi is definitely not the guy who will sit on a mountain top painting water colors, writing books. He will be but not yet.
Interesting you should mention that, read below...

I think the his next opponent will be Gonnosuke, in order to test this new resolve. Do you guys think Musashi will take this loss and decide to settle down until his leg heals?
I'd like to see him settle down some, do the farming bit, and learn to use his sword for the greater good, such as when he single-handedly defended that village in Musashi. Though, I'm actually wondering about how much longer Inoue is going to continue Vagabond, if he's going to have time for all that, to painstakingly show Musashi's maturation, or if we're closer to the end than we think. He's been talking for a while now about wrapping up the series; though, he keeps going past his estimations, and here it is chugging along, thankfully. I'm especially curious about his mindset though after his LAST Manga Exhibition, which for those that haven't heard of it, was a Vagabond museum exhibit that's theme was basically the end of Musashi's life. So, he's basically already drawn an epilogue to the series! Here's a thread with more info, links, and pictures for those interested:

Inoue Takehiko: The LAST Manga Exhibition

A word of warning though, it may be considered spoilerific to some if we're to regard this material as canon, and there's no reason not to. Technically though, it was released, or made public, in 2008.

He wins the first fight by basically using a defensive move, crossing his long and short sword to block Gonnosuke's thrust. I'm curious if Inoue will take more than a couple of chapters to depict this. It would be a good place to show Musashi's new found enlightenment; he wins a fight without attacking and shows mercy on an assailant.
I'm anticipating something like that as well, at least he's come around to that sort of realization here, though it's seemingly deja vu all over again since he was having similar thoughts as early as volume 22, and then again in volume 25 against Den (we saw how that worked out in volumes 26 and 27), it's actually practicing it that's been the trick. To his credit, Musashi did try this time, just against the wrong man.

Very cool, mind if I share those at the Vagabond Inn? I can't promise anyone will translate them, but I'd ask.

Re: Vagabond 285 Discussion / 286 Prediction Thread

Well, 285 didn't show up on any of the p2ps for me yet, but we got 282 from Share and I don't believe the raws even showed up on RP. It's sort of a mixed bag. Sometimes P2Ps are faster, sometimes other means such as RP are faster. The raws might not even show up on one or the other. There doesn't seem to be a lot of consistence at all. As for Billy Bat, the searches are specific to the series I am looking for generally, but I was actually looking for some raws for someone. I couldn't find a whole lot for though. The whole situation seems worse than normal lately, or maybe it's just my imagination.

Yeah, it's gone beyond arbitrary and become contradictory; why would someone, or some people, scan 283 and 285, and so quickly, yet before 282 and 284? Hopefully it's just that they're being uploaded inconsistently, my worry is one of these episodes is going to fall through the cracks altogether.

As for Billy Bat, the searches are specific to the series I am looking for generally, but I was actually looking for some raws for someone. I couldn't find a whole lot for though.
I was only wondering because I wanted to know if these odd numbered Vagabond issues coincided with the release schedule of new Billy Bat episodes in Morning. I noticed that both 283 and 285 went up simultaneously on RP with new Billy Bat, so maybe the scanner is chiefly concerned with that series and just doing Vagabond on the side because it's there, and the 282 raw was someone else filling in the gap? Just a theory.

The whole situation seems worse than normal lately, or maybe it's just my imagination.
No, it definitely is, the Vagabond raws were up like clockwork until 281, when Heiji was providing them I think.

Re: Vagabond 282 - 283 Discussion / 284 Prediction Thread

Musashi definitely needs a "home" (as Takuan put it), somewhere to settle and find a center. It would be great to see that phase of his life. He will before he fights Kojiro. Musashi was as great an artist as he was a swordsman, so we know that balance is coming. Demonstrating this is an essential part of the legend, along with his yearning for Otsu. Inoue is a great writer, I expect he will do more then hint at this before the end.

Thanks Homeless ninja for that link, I just bought the DVD for the exibit, expensive but for an designer it's always good reference material. When I get it I might create a iso if anyone wants it.

Now on topic: I need to see more of his two sword style and Musash also needs to settle down a bit before the manga ends. I think Inoue will gives us a a taste of that but he wont over elaborate it. He'll keep things moving along a a nice clip I think.

Ah, nevermind. The guys from NSN told me they're going to release a v2 including the pages that were missing from the magazine raws.

I would definitely be interested in seeing that.

Yeah, I think that's about how it will go as well, Inoue's probably going to touch base on lot of these things, but not linger on them too much before the end. I think he's actually said a lot of what he wants to say with this character already during Musashi's early maturation and development to this point. Sort of like what Sekishusai said, and which has been oft repeated here, the answers were there for us to see in Musashi all along.

Re: Vagabond 285 Discussion / 286 Prediction Thread

I can't remember these shenanigans happening until 282 went missing. It is odd that whoever puts Morning raws on Share/Perfect Dark has been skipping chapters. Maybe it has been different uploaders lately. RP gets their Morning raws from P2P so this situation could go on for a while.

If the complete volumes go on sale soon after their last chapter has been published, we should be able to get the missing chapters within a few weeks.
But yes, it's quite odd to only have every other chapter... And it's annoying when it's excellent chapters like the last ones.

It's been about a week. I was wondering if NSN was planning on just releasing 285 anytime soon.

Probably within a few days. Our editors (i.e. me) have a lot of homework this week, or we'd have done it already =P

Re: Vagabond 282 - 283 Discussion / 284 Prediction Thread

I hope we see the Ganryu Island fight soon, even though I love this Manga so much and I hope it never ends.

About the Musashi's Ni Ten Ichi Ryu, I think it was portrayed a few times in the early chapters already. The Yagyu 4 student fight, the Yoshioka fight so on so forth. I like Inoue's take on it, it just shows that Musashi was forced from time to time to wield two swords at the same time to gain strategic advantage over his opponent(s). If you noticed, this Manga doesn't really follow the traditional Kung Fu books or Animes where when somebody performs a special technique, there has to be a name for it and such. When they use it, they have to call out the techniques' name... >_>; Realistically, I think nobody yells out their most powerful move during a life and death fight.. You gain no obvious advantage by telling your opponent you're about to unleash hell.

Let's take Kojiro for instance, when he pwned Kohei with his famous "燕返 (Tsubame Geishi)", the technique's name wasn't important, it was never mentioned in the Manga.

So I think we might see more of Musashi wielding two swords at once, but will he name this technique Ni Ten Ichi Ryu in this Manga, I'm not so certain.

Re: Vagabond Hang Out Thread

Vagabond is published by Kodansha, who sent us a cease and desist order a few months ago. We are now unable to host any manga they publish. Nihil Sine Nefas are the current Manga Editors. You can get new chapters (assuming raws come out :p) there.

Re: Vagabond 285 Discussion / 286 Prediction Thread

Yeah, we've been holding off a bit hoping to get 284, but it's not looking good, so we're probably just going to release it somewhat soon. Again, since there might be contextual issues, we might release a v2 after when we get 284.

Well, we finally decided we'd waited enough. You can find 285 here:
http://nihilsinenefas.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/vagabond-c-285/

I guess this is the thread to post it on top of, though it's a bit of a mess with the gap and multiple threads that were made.

286 raws out. Still no sign of 284 *sigh*. Well, we're working on it.
