Hm... binondo... I actually haven't been there. I'm scared of the Manila area. Only places I'd gone to were Espanya (to buy archi stuff) and Intramuros. The rest I just breezed through behind the safety of a taxi window. Oh, and the "shopping district" of 168. hehe

Quiapo I'd only been to once. And I didn't want to go there again. >.>

yes. 199 for eat all you can. But there's a new one in Ayala at 299, I think. Dimsum on conveyor belt-style like sushi.


on another note, my sister has a lot of bad habits like alcoholism and violent tendency and boys-on-the-side (as reported by her boyfriend). We had suspected as much. But now that the guy told us everything it confirmed her behavior. We don't know how to intervene because she's in a different country. We told her before that she should go home but she always insisted to stay there. Now that we really know what's going on we don't even know what to tell her.

^ Is that the one that lives in Japan? If she lives in another country there's not much that can be done other than actually going there and trying to help her sort herself out. Or just hoping for the best.

I think she's indian or maybe pakistani. Im not postive (and i dont bother asking). But yea, moms and their crazy friends are pretty much the same the world over. xD

yep. the one in japan. no wonder she was insisting for me to come over (she was willing to pay for the expenses but my mom didn't agree to it) some time ago. We had suggested she come home at least for a few months just to sort things out but she was headstrong about being on her own.

she's actually the aloof artistic genius types, if you know what I mean. Those overly emotional quiet musicians/artists... she had attempted suicide in her teenage years. She's delicate to deal with.

But we haven't told our parents any of this. We wanted to spare them the sad truth about my over-achieving sister. Actually my gut was telling me we should let them know, maybe they could do something about it. >.<

A quick search on isohunt of street fighter ost gives me a seeded torrent called "Street fighter series OST" containing the Street Fighter 2 themes. Hope that helps.

The problem is that SF2 has a lot of versions, and each one has a different theme... Who thought a song used for a meme would be so hard to find?

Ah, yes. The torrent has the SF2 one. When does Guile's theme play, anyway? Because I think you may be able to procure the SNES rom (which should be New Challengers) and do something about it.

on another note, i spent time watching some fairly new manga and I watched Mistudomoe and Arakawa Under the Bridge. Which I both like. Modern anime are so pretty!

Don't really like the premise of Arakawa so I don't think I'll see it.

I'm also not too keen on Mitsudomoe's premise (Young triplets with unique characteristics trying to get their teacher and the school nurse together) just doesn't catch my fancy, too. Although, I've read that the humour may be similar to Baka to Test so I may just bite. Is it?

I've also been catching up to anime lately, mostly of the shounen genre, and it's been hit or miss with those animes getting good reviews. I've downloaded aroung 300 GB these past month or so.

Tales of the Abyss was a colossal disappointment. I find it hard to trudge through Samurai Champloo (even though the episodes aren't bad at all. The main story line just doesn't engross me at all.). Chrno Crusade seems promising, but I stupidly spoiled myself . I had though Major was Eyeshield 21-ish, but it turned out to be more human drama (those people at MAL should really learn how to recommend series properly).

At any rate, I've got a long list to watch (Pumpkin Scissors, Valkyria Chronicles, Samurai Champloo, Baka to Test, Night Wizard, Major, Trinity Blood, Darker Thank Black, etc.), so I'll be occupied for some time.

I'm currently reliving my childhood and watching Pokemon starting from season 1! I'm only in season 3 atm, and I'm still in the process of downloading seasons 6-9, but it's been great reveling in the nostalgia... It's also fun seeing how dumb the characters are.. dumbasses don't know how to use type advantages and STAB properly.

Reliving my "childhood" was what started me on this download craze. I first got the dual audio Rurouni Kenshin, then Hajime no Ippo. I've also got Rayearth, and probably will get Slayers.

Speaking of Rayearth, every time I watch the original dub, I thought that the first OP (Yuzurenai Negai) was just so good that even when they made the Tagalog version, it still clung to my head. Then when browsing through some jpop artists discography I saw at least 2 or three covers of the song. So it does seem that the song's phenomenon was indeed not limited to the localized version.

Or maybe the dubbers back then were just that good, because even the tagalized themes of the sentai back then were catchy.

On a side note, local TV should really consider using decent original theme songs in their shows. That's what could help the music industry, not that stupid 4 OPM songs per hour per radio station law.

The problem with translations is that a lot gets lost in it. There are lots of words and metaphors that can't be translated, resulting in the wrong message being conveyed. Theres also the fact that Japanese is heavy in syllabic pronunciation... this will make for really weird sounding songs; that is if they try to translate the song

That's actually why I think the localized Yuzurenai Negai was genius. It was nowhere near being a translation.

The first two lines of the song literally meant "We'll keep aiming for the never-ending future, holding on to our unforgettable dreams". A far cry from "Kami'y narito, asahan niyo magtatanggol, makikipaglaban, para sa kapayapaan." but it fit the show just right.

Maybe some purists will call it blasphemy, but for me that shows a lot of creativity.

As a musician, I don't exactly see it as a good thing... unless it's made for comedic purposes (you'd have to be just as/more immature than Weird Al if you go after him). It's no different from ripping paragraphs from wikipedia, changing a few words, and submitting it as your own; it's not blasphemy, more like a form of plagiarism.

Kuro-tan, if you've read/watched and liked Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei- Arakawa Under the Bridge's got the same feel..

I can't believe you haven't watched Samurai Champloo yet. It's one of the pretty cool anime with awesome soundtrack.

Btw, the localized Slam Dunk was a damn good job, IMO.

Yeah, I get that. For me, of course, the best alternative is still subtitles, but if the producers choose to be consistent with dubbing all throughout, what they did with Rayearth was the best they could do.

Never watched Zetsubou-sensei yet. Kinda shallow, but the title's a bit depressing for me . Double negatives in farewell and despair don't really conjure the same feeling as a single positive . But now that you've reminded me of it, I'll give it a try.

The thing with Samurai Champloo is I wasn't a big fan of Cowboy Bebop either, and it's one of those things I kept on putting off. Don't worry, I still think it's a good anime, so I'll still be watching it.

I really think too much before doing stuff. .

Oh, and +1 on Slam Dunk. It was Japanese-like overdone humor translated into Philippine-style overdone humor . Sakuragi's "Basketbooru tensai" song was well-translated too.
