All Purpose Sig Contest Discussion Thread 2011

I agree, the light is well done and the signature looks great! n_n

I'll search through my files, I have lots of nature photographs and there's one I think it would look good on a signature... I'll have friends coming over for my graduation ceremony, so I'll have little time to do this...

Well, I tried to find some renders today and I couldn't find what I wanted. I first thought of a Hakuouki sig with someone under a sakura tree, and when I couldn't find any renders that worked I looked for some Yamato/Tenzou renders and found even less.

Then I went for something really different, pictures of the golf course Augusta National. :P As I'm a hug golf fan and the Master's tournament at this famous course is this week. After making the sig I realize none or few of you probably follow golf, so I tried to add Tenzou to the sig, and this is the result:

Even though it's poorly done and kinda laughable, I sorta like it. How bad is it really? Be honest. And sorry for the rant, I just though I should explain how this came about.

@DeBaron - I think you should have gone with the golf idea instead. The background looks amazing already,but the render just doesn't fit IMO. I don't follow golf at all, but I think that's what making sigs are all about. The things you like,your favourite things... I think the golf idea is an interesting take on the tree theme. That's just me though Good luck~

I haven't had any time at all to start on my sig,but I have a lot of ideas I just have to choose the right one and see if I can make a good enough sig.

Thanks for the feedback Kakashi, this was the original sig:

It looked too plain IMO, so I wasn`t real happy with it, but mabye its better than the Tenzou one, either way I failed at this theme.

@Shin - Nice sig, I never thought of Zetsu, but he works perfectly for the theme. Cool cut out shape and text.

@~Coffee~: great lighting, good overall sig but the border doesn't look so good. (if you want to stick with that type of border, make it smaller... you can also modify the drop shadow effect you used on it to make it look better because it distracts the eyes from the effects you used on the body of the signature).

P.S: lol, it seems that you're in love with those arrow shaped brushes . The same way I'm stuck with this chain link fence ^^

hahahah ya I noticed that (chainlink fence~), im glad someone at least noticed my work XD

I thought the border was pretty cool, I was trying to do something slightly different (like what I did with the Suzaku sig a while back) though I was thinking I might flip the shadowing to the inside of the border might make it look better and you said to make it smaller and the shadow even lighter~

@ Coffee - I don't know if I said this already, but your chibi sig is amazing! And I also like your tree sig as well, though IMO it seems that the render is a bit too blurry in the focal points. You may also want to experiment with making more shadowed/burned areas in the background for a bit more contrast. But overall it's a neat concept and very nice sig.

Thank you a ton DeBaron, I remembered I was gonna sharpen up a little bit of it, but I forgot about it (I seem to do stuff like that a lot) and I knew I was forgetting something but I just couldnt remember ~

Though I did burn and dodge the crap out of the entire image, so maybe Ill have to increase the intensity of it a little bit

on a second thought on your comments about it being too blurry, I remember that I duplicated her blurred it about and changed the blending to give it a shiny effect to her~ Maybe it would be best to just lower the opacity of that instead of risking sharpening~

Yeah, I think if that's the case even just partially erasing that layer over her face and any other areas you want to stand out more, could work too. The shiny blur works nicely, I just think it would be more dramatic with a few less blurry areas as well.

The border look better now(maybe because its higher?)
I like how the background is dif , maybe just a little, than the previous one.
The background look better compared to the previous one imo.
I don't know if its me but did you make some parts of the render brighter and some darker? The render stands out a little more now.
and the lighting seems to be different.
I like the current one more, amazing

The results of the chibi sig contest are in, and the winner is Farfalla!
As someone who has played the video game Ōkami, it was quite the pleasant surprise to see Amaterasu as a chibi pup! That cute, little goddess puppy standing on the image of its glorious self was a very smart way of connecting chibi to the original that set this signature from the rest of the pack. Additionally, the colors blend in so well, evoking appropriate images of sky twilit by the radiant Sun. (For those not aware, Amaterasu is the Sun goddess in Shinto! )

Farfalla has quite the way with words in her signatures, and this one wasn't different, as the signature phrase in the center "Igneous Wrath" ties the signature together. Although you see a chibi ookami before you, don't be fooled by the cuteness; beware the great fiery goddess within!

Great job making such a cute theme into something so majestic and beautiful! Let us all bask in the radiance of Farfalla's talent!

There is still one week left on the tree contest. It seems really appropriate that a sun-related signature is the winner of the previous contest. Like real trees, feed off of its light and grow taller (by submitting before the deadline)!
