Kewl, I thought you would be familar with this thread enough to know that the sales figures are diminishing returns by day, with the first few days at its highest and later days a lot smaller.

Do you honestly think Vol.13 would've gained 20k in sales after 2 more days? There is zero difference between Vol.12 and Vol.13, with limited gains for Vol.14.

The fact is, you can't tell any significant increase for the past few volumes of Toriko even with the exposure, while AoEx had mad expansion in terms of sales:

AoEx Vol.5 - 81k in second week (after 10 days)
AoEx Vol.6 - 140k in first week (after 7 days)

I know there's a diminishing returns, I'm saying that Toriko hasn't "exploded" in sales, but it's gone up. In the long term each volumes' been selling around 220 and earlier volumes used to sell under 200K before the anime was announced. Before that it was like 180K.

Yeah, it's not an "explosion" but it has been increasing. We'll see where V14 goes now that the anime's started. It came out the day the anime began I think, or 1-2 days within it. But as the anime gets popular and people watch it the sales generally go up.

Like with Bakuman I think sales didn't go up as soon as the anime started but they did go up over time to being like 50-100K more.

Well, well, well, what an interesting cover indeed. The editors' intentions are blatant with the placement of Toriko. XD However, I wouldn't stamp it as the Big Three yet. In order for me to call it, Toriko's tankobon has to overtake Bleach during the same month. That might happen so who knows.

I'm disappointed there's no theme this time. The protagonists are staring at the reader, and it's quite awkward.

So great to see Ichigo booted from the front row. Whether it was Toriko or someone else, that was just long overdue imo. Bleach had one OK arc and has been underachieving since. Although honestly its just a big two in this magazine and then everyone else after it in the grand scheme of things.

Whether Mago actually ends up moving or gets cancelled, I have to admit that it wouldn't bother me all that much. Its just been too inconsistent for my liking and has had its boring chunks of chapters even before its more recent streak of filler chapters. I feel similarly about Beelzebub. Despite all of the hype, its just outright bored and disappointed me for long streaks at a time starting with that demon world arc it had.

Bakuman feels like its stalling in some respects but for the most part it is still among my top 5 most enjoyable series. I'd be fine if it got to be up front but it isn't a fantasy fighting shonen so it won't get to be a front runner like that.

I knew Dois Sol would crash. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. I think its fair to say that whoever keeps approving these soccer serializations is insane. However, I admit that it always lets me know that there will be one guaranteed cushion whenever it comes along.

I'm not surprised Hokenshitsu is struggling again. It might be knocking at death's door soon.

Also come on Medaka, you need to rise up a bit to at least stay out of the bottom 5. Granted, you've spent a considerable amount of your life outliving a good chunk of other series down there as well, but as a fan I'd like some peace of mind every once in a while.

I have still hope on Dois Sol. Dois Sol's ranking is based on chapter 3 and I admit that it was boring. However, it has gotten better on later chapters; so, I hope the ranking for Dois Sol to increase in future.

Also, I have a feeling that Jump actually has one extra empty space, not counting space made by OD. I think this way because Jump puts crossover (One Piece x Toriko) one shot (Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal) on recent issues without cancelling or absenting anything. Furthermore, they put Haikyuu (47 pages) which can take up 2 series space, but so far only OD has cancelled.

Bleach sells on average 500k copies in japan toriko around 200-250k. I doubt the anime will help with more then 100k copies.

But yea bleach has sold tons and tons all over the world seems kinda early for the editors to snub kubo like that.

When Ohba-sensei drew Sasaki in Bakuman, his design and so on was based on the real Sasaki. You can see more in this thread.

Meanwhile... I wonder if it was just not mentioned yet, or has no series gotten the axe this week?

Mago still being in the bottom is not much of a surprise, I suppose, but I'm still hoping for a miracle. No idea if moves are really possible, but I most certainly hope so, if it gets to a point where Mago becomes a permanent bottom dweller and a candidate for cancellation.

Please stop listing info on 巻頭 (Lead CP) as Cover. We don't know whether it's definitely the cover or not. There's a reason the spoiler posters never state what the 表紙 (Cover) for the next issue is, simply because that information is not available.

Same goes for this issue, the cover is a cover for all WSJ protagonists, not One Piece.

Then why did you use "average" as an evidence for your argument? Why not form an exponential decay model and project the future sales figure and overall sales? (Something I don't even want to try, since you'd need to use some other long selling series like One Piece as basis for the projection, and it failed miserably for me after my first attempt).

Fact is, as early as Toriko Vol.5, it already had 140k sales for the first 6 days, and around 170k by day 10/11 for Vol. 7/8. For crying out loud, Vol. 11 sold 160k by day 7 if you want a more "apples to apples" comparison. That's an increase of 18,124 copies in sales, after 6 months of intense pimping by WSJ as well as anime exposure.

As for the sales going up as the anime getting popular? It's a good argument except Toriko's anime ratings had gone down, not up, since it started.

and a small yey for nura, for not being dead last; i think in a couple of weeks it will rise

about dois soil what can i say? ... except tsubasa i didn't followed any soccer manga/anime. If it get's axed at least it will give a boost to nura and medaka

Just look at the ones between 7~9 instead of trying to pin point the exact start, and disregard the CP/Lead CP positions if you want (though, they sometimes do mean something).
