Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Bokke bottomed out as soon as Asklepius and Meister were canceled. Both series cushioned Bokke, which rarely ranked higher than sixth or seventh from bottom. That was also the period when To Love Ru and Neuro were permanent bottom five for six months or more, without being canceled. A lot of new series seemed to be safer than they were, as only the most pathetic fell into the bottom five immediately. Bokke is also a case of an easily replaced action/fantasy manga.
I think we can both agree that this is not an exact science. You can pull a bunch of different examples of series that ended from all sorts of situations, but that doesn't mean the same thing will happen again. I can't remember the exact circumstances on how Ane Dokii left the magazine, but it does remind me of Harisugawa in terms of genre. Either way, I will still be routing for the series and hope that it survives the next round of cancelations. :)

Sometimes it;s that, but half the time it;s that the JUMP readers have standards we don;t really seem to know about and series get axed for not being what their looking for even if most of us here may find it to be good (Psyren, Double Arts, Enigma, etc.)

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

It's not even the manga that get axed aren't what the readers are looking for, it's that for a new series to start something has to be canceled and since older series have been around longer, they have a bigger fanbase and since newer series don't have that fanbase, they are a million times more vulnerable to being the one that gets canceled.

We only had 51 issues because the unexpected one week absent due to the earthquake on last March; plus, we actually had 47 issues because four issues are double issues. Jump should have 48 issues if they didn't take absent.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought that there were other instances where there were only 51 Issues in a year, but I just checked and it looks like there has been at least 52 issues a year since 1970. Plenty of 53 issue occurrences, but never 51.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

it says some about "frustration" and "discomfort" but why do you post here?
It says Kubo created a design of Ichigo's Fullbring based on from Tokusatsu Heroes (like, Power Ranger) which young audience thinks it is cool, but it may bring frustration and discomfort to readers who are older and read Bleach for long time.

He used this design because he wants people to be happy when Ichigo returns to regular shinigami uniform, and the Fullbring uniform design is meant for Ginjou not Ichigo.

It isn't anything important to talk about.

@calimike: Technically your post is related to WSJ, but it's better suited in Bleach's sub-forum. Be careful next time!

Not happy this week: Sket Dance, KHR, Beelzebub and Nurarihyon are all in the bottom half. :(

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

The next round of 2chan fun rankings for those who are interested

Rules etc:
Bear in mind that the following ranking are not an actual reflection on how the series will do when the actual rankings come out but only a nice little pastime for very few people on 2chan.

How does it work?
They give every series they read a score between 1(the lowest), 5(the highest) and 0 for unread series.

What do the numbers mean?
The first column is the sum of all scores
The second column is the number of people who have read the series and given points
The third column is the average rating from ALL the people, including those who have not read it. (First column divided by number of participants)
The fourth column is the average rating from those people who have read the series. (First column divided by the second column)

Bear in mind that the following “ranking” is for issue 50. The one where there was no Naruto. The Japanese are getting their WSJ on Monday (5 days AFTER we get the Edited Mangas) and the ranking length is 1 week long until the next WSJ comes out.

Issue 50:
Number of participants: 90
Absent series: Naruto

Was this posted already? I think so at least. At least it's very official now. XD The chapter were short before... so probably no increase of titles.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Not a great week for Kurogane, just barely out of the bottom five this week. Unfortunately three of the bottom five are mainstays that will not be canceled with the next round of cuts. I still think that Magico will be one of the next to go, along with St&rs. Hunter x Hunter will probably save a third series from cancellation, Kurogane and Kagami will likely live to see another round of cancellations.

I don't actually read Kurogane, so I'm not exactly invested in it's well being. The only Jump series I read are HxH, OP, Bleach, Naruto, and Nisekoi. If Nisekoi polls poorly I plan on giving new meaning to the phrase "butthurt".

Great to see Hunter x Hunter rising in the rankings!
I feel bad for ST&RS,I don't think anything can save it from cancellation now :(

Im surprised it started out as good as it did considering not a lot of action now that the matches have started I think it will pick up some but regretfully do see it getting canned sooner or later really have enjoyed it tho nice kendo manga.

I wonder if Nurarihyon no Mago and Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa didn't have colour pages this week they might be in the bottom five and take inumaru dashi and Bleach out. Perhaps Jump staff are trying to save these series by giving them more colour pages?
