Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I haven't read Bakuman in years but just a glance at chapter 173 and it's obvious the series is ending very soon. The most basic plot premise, established at the end of chapter 1, has now been fulfilled. All of the dreams and aspirations the characters established before they became mangaka have been achieved. Ohba is clearly telling the audience the story is over. I assume there will be enough five or six more chapters to resolve the plot and fill out the final volume, then it will end. Late May or early June sounds most reasonable.

I think it'll end within next four chapters (not including chapter 174) because then Bakuman will have enough chapters to fill the volume. So, I think Bakuman will end around early May.

I have little doubt that this will be the last volume. I'm not exactly sure what chapter the last volume will start with so I was just estimating, I did include chapter 174 in my count though. Don't forget that Golden Week is coming up, if Bakuman needs four more chapters serialization will take five weeks.

Volume 18 should begin from chapter 152 and volume 19 would be start from 161. That mean's volume 20 should start from chapter 170, so Bakuman should end in chapter 178 which mean volume 20 will be a final volume.

I highly doubt that it'll continue until volume 21 because if then, it really has nothing to talk about. So, I think Bakuman should end around early to middle of May.

Do you really think Bakuman is ending soon? Because little by little they are introducing some stuff that will need to be explained, as the development of the anime and the wedding itself... I mean, I can't see how they're going to end with the current development.
Or perhaps this is really all-meta and it'll end in a few chapters without announcement, like Reversi.

the only thing certain is that the last chapter will have a big "END, please support their next work"- Badge on the last page. Everythign else is unknown for us and every can be expanded infinite, on behalf of the quality.

PS: Medaka's new Arc sounds by the way not bad at all. good be somthing interesting, thinking that many thought it could end now. the question is how he will implement the favourite characters like kumegawa into this. it should be fine as long as he don't make as in katekayo. does anyone of you read that anymore by the way? another manga that should have ended more than 2 years ago...

That is not true. If in the first chapter the protagonist proclaims that their goal is to save the world and win the hand of the lovely maiden, when he saves the world and wins the hand of the lovely maiden the audience can be certain the story is about to be resolved. So we can be damn near certain that the stories resolution is near if the protagonists dream is for his high school crush to voice the role of the female lead in an anime adaption of a manga and then marrying her, and the manga he drew is being adapted into an anime with his high school crush voicing the role of the female lead and she just accepted his marriage proposal. Considering he has shown time and time again he knows when to end a series, it would be silly to assume that Obata (and Ohba) would suddenly continue Bakuman after an obvious climax.

On another note: Obata needs to follow Inoue's lead and leave Weekly Jump. It would be amazing if he followed Inoue to Morning, where he would be given more artistic freedom and work with some of the best editors in the business (1day and Fx Comics editors are legendary for getting the best out of mangaka). He's an amazing artist who seems to get the best out of every author he works with. Seeing him in an magazine that allows more risk taking would be sensational.

Kaiten, while I agree with that in spirit, if he did that, we wouldn't end up with any more Ohba/Obata series, and I'd miss that. DN and Bakuman are two of my favorite series.

He's also not going to have animes left and right as much. Bakuman already has a third season of their anime lined up, and they'll probably get at least a fourth.

Are you supposed mean Ohba? Obata is charge on illustrator and I don't think the Jump editors limit on the artwork, itself. I think the Jump editors limit on the story.

In change of subject, by looking at this week's issue, I think St&rs is definitely heading toward the ending (I think this time is real). So, I think it is definite Bakuman and St&rs will end as soon as the one shot line-up is over.

For next new series, I think it is most likely that Hungry Joker will be included. But, I want Muragane also to be serialized too; I, personally, like this one shot more than Hungry Joker.

Negative, would you mind pointing me in the direction of an English scan of the one shots?

Sorry, I don't read English scan; I read raw.

I think that a new Ohba/Obata series without the limitations of WSJ would be awesome. I mean, both of them together again, but somewhere else like in Morning or Big Comic, but I think Obata is really suited to Jump, while Ohba have more artistic potential to explore new ways.

Can you explain a little what is that "1day" and "Fx Comics" editors thing please? Is some kind of "editors agency" (for giving it a name) or I just didn't understand a thing? :P

That's true, but I think there are still higher possibility that they will stay in Shueisha; most of mangakas actually stay in their hoome publisher. However, I think Ohba/Obata pair may moves to more mature magazine, like Young Jump, Jump X, Ultra Jump, etc.; many mangakas tend to move to more mature magazine when they get old.

i'm not 100% sure, but wasn't it in hxh gon's goal to find his father? don't see hxh ending now... ichigo defeating aizen could also be considered the main goal, but it also didn't end. for another example i would use my brain, because thats seomthing that propably won't happen that often. but that isn't a reason that i can't happen.

The fantasy/action manga, like Bleach and HxH, can extend at any place even the main goal has fulfilled, like these series can introduce new setting and/or new enemies. However, manga that focuses on real-life, like Bakuman, has a limit on its extention.

Just a friendly reminder...make sure to mark spoilers appropriately...not everyone is caught up to every jump series. :)

1day refers to the 3 magazines of Kodansha named after a part of a day (morning, afternoon, evening). I'm not sure if there is an editorial coherence between the 3, Kaiten probably knows more about that
fx comic is the label under which are printed the manga prepublished in Manga Erotics F in particular
