Could anyone post a link to a scene featuring a scene with the nen sound effect? I really can't remember what it used to sound like. Also I'm lazy xD

I watched the latest episode and to be honest it wasn't that bad. Hunter x Hunter actually manages to make recaps bearable, and the use of the full version of the ending song was pretty cool. Heaven's Arena (I prefer to call it Celestial Tower but meh) looks like it's going to be awesome! I like Wing's and Zushi's character designs a lot more this time round. I really wouldn't mind Madhouse dragging this arc on if they do it like they did with the Zoldyck Family arc. Getting a few well animated filler fights would be pretty nice actually (like Killua's fight against the Darth Maul lookalike in the old anime)!

At the rate of two chapters per episode it looks like the 2011 series won't surpass the 1999 series in pacing speed.
It's about 92 episodes from chapter 1 to chapter 185 for the 1999 series and it's looking like it will be about 97 episodes
for the 2011 series. HOWEVER, it should be kept in mind that Hisoka vs Kastro was basically skipped in the 1999 series.
Also as people said the Phantom Troupe arc has shorter chapters. Also did they ever skip anything in Greed Island?
Or is it just shorter chapters again? Personally I just hope they don't skip anything more and they minimize fillers.

Note at the time I have it cued up you can hear a weird glowing noise, like they are radiating weird energy. I really liked it, but its also kinda weird. I can understand if someone thinks its dumb/too odd. But I like to think most anime have their own unique aura sounding noise, and I hope the new series doesn't simply emulate another series (dragonball/naruto)'s sound effects for Nen.

The Phantom troupe chapters are like 12-13 pages so yea, really short. I thought that arc was paced fine, but it was great getting 3 chapter episodes in the 1999 anime towards the last 13 episodes or so. I'd like to see the 2011 series do so when adapting the very short chapters. But I really have no clue how they'll handle later arcs, I can't wait to see what they do.

Thanks TheAmericandream. It's a cool sound effect, but I'm thinking a more "ethereal" sound would fit better (in my opinion at least). If the auras we've seen in some of the past episodes of this new anime are what Nen will look like then I think Madhouse is doing it right. The way it looked like in the G.I. Final OVAs was pretty cool, so I wouldn't mind it looking like that.

One thing it skipped is a few of the 1 page side quests they went on to get cards. Some of it takes place during conversations and is so easy to gloss over. There's a few other minor things that got skipped for the sake of telling the story smoother. Still I would love to see some of these things make its way into the new show if handled well.

my man Zepile trying to get his license but failing (mean Killua!) and the Amori brothers vowing never to take the Exam again was completely cut from the anime. Which I found so weird.

There's some stuff involving Bomber's ability and a persons heartbeat that's totally cut (information mostly, but it made him a lot scarier IMO once I read this in the manga.) Of course there was also censorship of a few things too in Greed Island (though in general the 1999 series OVA's were much better about censorship since it wasn't airing on tv.)

And also, some of the plot was changed in the GI OVAs. I don't remember the dude that looks like a smartass (can't remember his name right now...) trying to negotiate with the Bomber out of the game in the OVAs.

And also, of course, the description of the spell card effects, which made the whole "Magnetic Force/Accompany" thing a bit more confusing, since it was never explained in detail what Magnetic Force did. Of course, it was implied, but still. Also, Gon's team card lists.

And on the whole Nen effect thing, if the Nen will really be like that then I'm okay with it, I just wish it was a bigger aura though.

One thing I hated about the 99 series was how they represented the Gyo aspect of Nen. It literally looked like Kurta Eyes...

I didn't think it was a good representation of what Gyo is or what it looks like and it's just confusing when you have Kurta Eyes look the same.
I'm sure there were people who thought Zushi was a member of Kurapika's clan at that point lol.

Hopefully 2011 will get Nen right. I don't feel Nen was done well overall in the 99 series. It sounded weird and looked even weirder lol.
I always imagined Nen sounding more ethereal, kinda more mystical. Not like powering up in DBZ....

How do you think they'll handle Hisoka vs Kastro fight? Obviously they'll censor it, but will they keep the "thing with the arms"? I hope it'll be like this.

They can censor the stumps if they use nen auras. It has been confirmed by Machi when she asked him to turn off the aura and it starts bleeding.

Well, it won't be the first time someone uses auras to censor injuries.

Or they can show the arms without blood, but I don't that's possible.

Zebro's aura does look good, I just hope the whole colored aura thing is in the new anime. It made each persons aura feel instantly different from others. I agree the 1999 series sorta confused Gyo with Kurta eyes. I don't remember ever finding it confusing, but I can understand how someone else maybe could (they did flash and were different colors from red usually). Hopefully with newer digital effects they won't run into the same problems the first series had with eye effects.

But in the manga is the same, when you read it for first time you don't know what is that thing around Zebro.

I actually think that we've seen more instances of Nen than just Zebro's aura; the steam rising from Gotoh's hands is one of them. According to Gon, aura looks like steam. Plus, when Nen abilities are dispelled in the manga, the energy from aura is released through steam.

I do remember the quote about steam (from Gon). I liked the aura feeling we got from Gotoh in episode 25, it has a neat effect (though a bit too subtle for my tastes). Though I wouldn't necessarily say I remember any panels in the manga looking like steam in terms of how Togashi drew it, but I can see it when you mention it. Honestly I think Nen tends to be drawn too inconsistently to say how it must look. I'd say its up to any individual artist who is drawing it really, its up to interpretation. To me Nen always feels like its glowing the way it radiates around characters, so glowing steam might be the most accurate way to describe it most times, but then it flairs up big time almost like Chi in Dragonball occasionally. I'm infinitely curious how the new series is going to depict large aura bursts like from Gon's JaJanken, Uvogin, the Ants and the Zoldycks.

If each of the main four gets their own Nen colour then I'm betting Gon's will be green, Killua's purple, Leorio's blue and Kurapika's yellow/gold. I'd prefer it if Gon was the one with the golden aura though. Hisoka's is probably purple/pinkish.

Yea that's spot on. Hmm if you think about it, each of our leads uses different aura types, so maybe each of the six groups can be semi represented by different Aura colors. That'd be interesting. We can ponder away at this forever can't we? The new episode cannot come quickly enough for me!!
