Suddenly there's Japanese lesson here?

Reminds me that I've neglected my Japanese for so long. I guess I've completely forgotten kana by now (unless the kana used for my name). I can only remember few kanji. I'm even not sure that I still remember all of hiragana. I'm limited to speaking a bit of basic Japanese. I already reached N3 and just because I neglected it, I'm sure my level has gone down now...

Gosh, and I still haven't continue my other languages lessons. This is what English has done to me. I learned Italian but all I can manage now is Italian-accented English.

Tae Kim's website is a good way to learn Japanese grammar for free. Of course it does not cover every grammar within Japanese language, nonetheless it's very reliable considering that it's free. The pay-per-lesson site, did you mean Textfugu?

Yeah, I checked it out for a bit, but seems like not really what I wanted. No, not Textfugu. Have you ever heard of JapanesePod101? It has podcasts, some kind of short textbook for each lesson, and kanji practice related to the lesson.

Yeah, we get the task online, and upload the document to the same site.

It's basically an intensive assignment. Since you have way more hours available, as well as all resources you can think of, more is expected of you, naturally. I pretty much finished after 3 hours like a normal exam here usually consists of, and would have likely gotten a decent grade from it in that case. But I had to polish it for hours to make it good in terms of being a home exam.

I understand. We use that kind of system here but not for exam though, so yeah, lot more is expected from students. ^^;

OMG...I had to hear enough about it in IM yesterday, now I can't even escape to phio's thread without hearing about it

Yeah. exactly my case. I've forgotten some hiragana, most katakana, and yet now trying to learn more kanji. Meh, haha~ XD Let's start again! Though with our schedule it's rather.. hard. XD

Italian-English is so easy to fake. I've pretended being Italian a ton of times. If I on top of that make my name Nino instead of Nuno people fall right for the exchange student story. For some reason people see Nino as Italian, lol, but I usually roll with Nuno. Most don't know any difference.

Indeed. I've planned to take lessons again but... I blame my lecturers for not giving me time to learn other languages.

Yeah, laugh all you want. But my friends here are already sick of my Italian accent. I like to use it whenever I can (which means often, it's the third accent I used the most after American and British).

I've heard about the podcast, own some seasons too, but I think Textfugu is better if you want to understand Japanese from the very basic.


Oh, and I mastered my Italian-English by watching all the episodes of The Sopranos within two weeks.

Well I can. The only thing I lack is a good moustache, but other than that I look exactly like a typical Southern-European.

When I speak to someone I don't know, they usually ask me if I'm from Spain. I assume they do because of my looks and because Spain is the most "common" place someone with my looks would be from. Can't expect the average person to know that Nuno is a typical Portuguese name.

I missed this part. Norwegian probably sounds like a pretty ugly language. Danish just sounds retarded, like Norwegians with a potato stuck in their throat. Swedish is perhaps more nice to listen to.

I often draw parallels between Norwegian-Swedish and Portuguese-Spanish. Both the typical Norwegian and Portuguese sound harsh compared to their respective brothers, but both languages have accents that sound way better than the typical Swedish and Spanish IMO. I speak the regular versions of both.

Nah, I feel like it's grating on my ears every time I hear it. What's funnier is the actual Javanese with its own accent.

You mean look wise? Sure I guess. Other than that the cultures have differences, albeit mostly the "same". Spanish is completely foreign to me. My father has asked me several times throughout the years when I say I don't understand Spanish, "why? It's so easy and similar to Portuguese", but I cannot agree. I listed quite a lot to Spanish when I watch football etc, and it just sounds foreign too me.

Yeah. Although most languages can in a way draw parallels to English. A Norwegian can pretty much understand German (especially writing) in many cases, and vise versa.

It's funny how some people seem to dislike their own native language. I think Indonesian is so boring and uninteresting, you think Norwegian is ugly, while I remember Kaoz said he somehow disliked Germany.
