I think you meant Memphis Grizzlies? Because when they were in Vancouver, the name actually made sense. But there are a bunch of examples of that in the NBA alone...Lakers, Jazz, etc

Well, I'm not a big fan of Memphis bear logo, either, but the one back in Vancouver was really bad, that's what I meant.
Too brutal for an NBA logo.

A bear could still look as a nice fit, but this design is horrendous. No need to picture the bear like it was about to get into a fight.
I normally love how a grizzly bear looks, but this depiction wasn't anywhere near my taste, so, you got it right in the first thinking.
