The construction is right but it's a bit wrong in agreement and tense. The correct would be: "Eu estou indo para estudar mestrado em Engenharia."

"sou" and "estou" are the verb to be in portuguese in the present, their uses depends on what you want to say.

Mas assim, eu moro no plano piloto, aih td aki fica meeeeeeeeeega caro. Mas tem cidade satelite, tipo aguas claras, que sao otimas, com imoveis fodoes cheios de mordomias q os do plano piloto n tem pela metade do preço (claro q acha imovel com mordomia aqui tb, mas vai custar no minimo o triplo). Ao menos, cargo publico aqui eh mto bem remunerado (apesar d volta e meia os caras reclamarem q com 10mil n da pra fazer nada, Z.O.M.G.)

You can force yourself to use those common sentences here, like obrigado (the same way you're doing), some greetings, etc. That way, you'll prolly record at least those by then^^
