But Bakuman did fail is developing characters, look at the main character for fucks sake man.
I feel like you just don't hold manga to the same writing standards as I do. If I read something I require it to be at a certain level (if it's trying to be something at a certain level) and if its not then I can clearly see that. It's probably because I'm in the arts or something.
Seriously that you think Mashiro bad developed? Well, everyone has their own taste and way to see a series.
Takagi was way less developed than Mashiro. Mashiro was kinda ok, but his partner had almost no evolution as a character.

Exactly, pretty much none of the characters had any development whatsoever. I'm not trashing the series as I really do love it, just stating the simple fact that it does have some flaws.

I didn't say that Bakuman is perfect, I don't think so, but depends on what kind of development you want. Bakuman is a story about how to be a mangaka and the development that Mashiro and Takagi had was this, development in your skills as mangakas, like the other mangakas that appear in the story. If you are saying development as person, I agree that doesn't have, and it was not necessary either way. Even so, you see that most of characters grown up during the story, a normal growth like a slice of life series requires. If you wanted a drastic change in the characters, we are not talking about the same series.

Well I didn't really liked Bakuman myself either and I dropped it before it ends. The plot was rather repetitive and the 'shounen battle manga' side was quite annoying after a while especially since it lacked a good villain.
But well Matt tastes and mine are usually pretty similar so I'm not surprised that we also agree on our disliking.

I actually had tears in my eyes reading the end of Bakuman. :lmao

And that while I didn't particularly liked the series itself. I just got to love the characters in some manner..

I don't really care whether Obata paired with Ohba (since I enjoyed both Death Note and Bakuman) or other writers. As long as they made interesting series, I'm okay with it.

To be honest, I stopped reading both Bakuman and Death Note partway through, because they no longer kept my attention. I think it's largely due to the same reasons others have already mentioned (Bakuman being repetitive and Death Note falling flat after a while).

I'll have to agree with those saying that Death Note lost its touch in the 2nd half. Guess that's part of the process of being in WSJ. You would have to extend your series. Same for Bleach. How Kubo stated it was initially only supposed to be 5 years long at best. And while Bakuman's main characters had little character development, they were absolutely lovable as characters. I actually never realized how little they developed until Nensense mentioned it.

And without a doubt, Ohba/Obata create series that stand out for their uniqueness. That's why I'm waiting for them to comeback. It's not that I think they will create another hit, I just wanna know what they will do next.

Have to want to, must. We don't know much each individual editor and mangaka work/force for a continuation, some can take the pressure, while many fail to produce consistent quality. I would hate it for they got a vision of a complete work, but end up prolonging with support character arcs as Yankee-kun & Megane-chan[not WSJ] did.

OP continues strong despite initially being a five year series too.:hee

One Piece's biggest advantage is its world. Its endless and therefore can be expanded infinitely. The next series in JUMP that has a massive world is Toriko. When they are forced to expand their series, I'm certainly not saying that its not gonna be hard but they have more freedom.

It's not really endless though and Oda has to chose which Islands to visit since he has the overall story already in mind/written down somewhere. Arcs taking up a year of more limits the number of places to visit with the time skip representing the end of the middle of the series. We already know most if not all end game characters, but not the route Oda is gonna take to reach the end.

No one mentioned that viz got Shokugeki no Soma?(Food wars)
Amazon is being a bit hasty. lol
However, we can say now that VIZ will release Shokugeki no Soma soon, probably in its anniversary, this is the right moment to do this.

Food Wars?... I like more Shokugeki no Soma, and they could translate as Souma's Shokugeki (common translation for "no")... I don't know if I like it or not.

Food Wars sounds a bit dull, but I can't think of any good alternative names.

Souma's Cooking, perhaps, but whatever. Choice has been made.

Souma's Shokugeki, for me, would be the best choice. They don't need to translate "Shokugeki" because the meaning of the word become clear in a chapter in the begining of the series. The name doesn't match with the series either, there is no "war" in Shokugeki, only battles. Food Battles or Food Fights would be a bit better, but still worse than Souma's Shokugeki.

The title is meant to attract people who don't know about the title yet. I don't see how shokugeki can be a good name for an English audience.

there's no name that's necessarily good for Soma. Soma's Shokugeki would sound clunky/like nonsense, Food Wars sounds a bit too "cheap tokyopop license", and I'm fairly sure we can't have "The Shokugeki Which Soma Plays" (easy joke).

On the other hand... It doesn't matter. Viz only sells to its insulated audience more often than not. they, as most int'l manga/anime publishers, only really advertise within the pre-existing circles of fandom. People'll buy in on what it is over what it's called.

Still, I do wonder how the name'll affect casual buyers when the inevitable paper releases hit bookstores...

Im a bit surprised they dont have World Trigger or One Punch Man on AMZN (both both Seraph of the End and Shokugeki no Soma).
