Guys do you know how many other non-main characters have appeared in the Jump covers? I don't mean as in multiple characters in the same cover (Example given multiple One Piece covers have got Luffy facing the arc's villian, Luffy vs different villians.
vs Buggy
vs Don Krieg
vs Crocodile
vs Enel
vs Lucci


Just to give a few examples, but in all those covers Luffy is present..
Do you remember Jump covers where the main character is not in the JUMP cover?
I remember an american Shonen Jump cover that got Vegeta in the cover (IIRC he won a contest or something like that), I don't recall any Japanese Jump cover like that, probably Sasuke had one but I don't think he did..
I only remember a cover in which Shaka (from Saint Seiya) was the only character in the cover. The little bubbles don't count since it wasn't drawn by the mangaka.
if someone other that Gintoki wins the contest and Sorachi draws the character alone I think that would be like the second time ever that JUMP has a non-main character alone in the cover.

Well the Shonen Jump Podcast said that theyre replacing Dragonball with a BRAND NEW SERIES in ~3wks.

I checked all the covers from around 1998 to the latest one and I couldn't find but these ones (I checked them rather quickly so I might have missed some)

You are awesome, also I noticed a cover with Luffy and Arlong, awesome because Arlong is one of my favorite villians.
I saw other cover.. This one with Reborn if you want to get technical Reborn isn't the main character but.. He is pretty much the main character at the same time, and if you want to get really technical he doesn't appear alone, he appears with the Chameleon (IIRC "Leo"). Again, Reborn.

Scratch that, REBORN appears in a lot of covers alone, seems like he is as much a main character as Tsuna.

Also I noticed that cover 699 in your list is missing an alternate cover, in that issue there was a "Heroes" side and then a "Rivas/Villians" side, that's the only thing I noticed but there are obviously other things missing, but incredible database

I am crossing my fingers that it's a weekly, and not another monthly.

It's always a gamble.

Yeah, it is like a gamble. The editors always choose the series which they think it'll be a hit, but that doesn't work in most of time. I thought Iron Knight was interesting series, but it looks like it wasn't for the Japanese readers.

The new series are starting from Issue 11.

What do you mean with "modern times"? we have three soccer mangas in 2010 and 2011.
