Ecuador fought until the very end... It was a good match, but not that great, it lacked some will from France despite its domination in the match.

Still first. :nod

France's substitutes/reserves didn't really show any desire out there, although Benzema and Giroud were horrible at finishing today.

They looked an entirely worse side without Valbuena and Cabaye.

French players with some beautiful assaults, but I guess without biting you don't get any kind of belated ban.
Other than that, good game by Ecuador. Even with 10 players they could hold the 0-0.
As for Switzerland - Honduras, bad guys, they broke history. Did Honduras give up? I didn't see it, but against the other teams they appeared to be stronger and hard to play too.

Its been a good day today. I don't know which match was better, Argentina v Nigeria(They can't keep getting drawn in the same group by accident surely) or France v Ecuador

I felt like Benzema couldn't have as many ball reception as he would have liked. Ecuador broke the French's game tempo quite well and fought very much, even though we did a big turnover (6 players) for that encounter. I felt kinda disgusted when the Ecuador was ten, but fortunately they did so great nevertheless, the 2nd period was better for France as the goal was directly threatened several times but man Dominguez (goalkeeper) was such a wall.

I don't think you know what justice means...lol

And besides, what we want and what will happen aren't the same thing

Then you'd understand that an inappropriate punishment isn't justice, it's the absence of it. :p

How people react to something like that differs. I said if I ran FIFA he'd be banned for life, and I stick by that. It doesn't mean that that is what will happen.

What is fair and it is unfair? Something can be fair for you and unfair for another, it is subjective. What rules the justice is its neutrality, Suárez was charged as suspect of biting since you cannot accuse someone without the proper judgement. Based on this principle, the lawyers will try to prove that the suspect is false.
What the media says doesn't influences (shouldn't at least) the judgement. If the lawyer is good enough, he can go free of the accusation. That's how judgements work.

The media needs no influence, all the evidence is apparent

You're being too much of a devil's advocate here. There's no way this transgression will go without punishment. I can't see any circumstance where that occurs.

The bite marks, videos, and pictures are pretty much prima facie evidences. The most logical step for Suarez's lawyers would be lessening his punishments, rather than defending him from all accusations. So yeah, pretty much unlikely Suarez would get no punishment at all.

Yup Suarez would be wise to lay all cards on the board and admit his mistakes rapidly. Instead he's pleading full innocence. If he openly admitted his mistake the coming punishment likely could get lessened. There's no mercy for actors and liars.

---------- Post added at 01:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------

Everyone here knows how lawyers and the justice system works in civilized countries and organizations. Suarez and his management team (including lawyers) had two options: The smart one - Admit guilt, or the dumb one - Deny all accusations and evidence. They went for number 2. The evidence is sufficient in this case. There are countless photos, countless camera angles. Bite marks are shown where Suarez "mouth touched his shoulder", you can see his mouth being opened. It wasn't a move he made while "falling" or anything external, it was a controlled move that wasn't caused externally from a push or something. It's a 100% done case. You can't expect to get away with such stupidity at an arena with the whole world watching. Someone is going to capture evidence of the happening. Suarez and/or his team made a huge error and instead of winning some respect by admitting his problem and mistake, and possibly having a lesser punishment, he'll get no respect and no sympathy.

If true, LOL. Muntari had already picked up a second yellow, so he wouldn't even be available for the Portugal match anyway.

These African teams and their disputes. There's at least one almost every WC.

I think that the real issue was the the French subs/reserves aren't nearly as good as the starters. France looked a certain poise and drive forward without Valbuena and Cabaye on the pitch.

Oh, my, it is true. I just saw more reports of the bust up.

In terms of United, Bilbao laughed in their faces about the 30m pound Herrera bid. United are a joke right now.

However, conflicting reports make it sound like Bilbao's just posturing, like they did with the Javi Martinez sale to Bayern, so who knows.

Suárez punishment was 9 games and 4 months out of anything related to soccer, there is a punishment in money as well.
The lawyer was not that good after all. :derp

My bets for today:

Portugal x Ghana
USA x Germany
Algeria x Russia
South Korea x Belgium

From FIFA:

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Luis Suárez of Uruguay following an incident that occurred during the FIFA World Cup™ match between Italy and Uruguay played on 24 June 2014.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that:

The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player).

The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated,” said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

Dude, it was simply impossible to defend him :XD

I predict the same as you, except that Algeria will beat Russia :3
