This joke was so well made that I almost believed. :o

I'm gonna make my bets tomorrow, only the two first matches because a player who get injured can change the result. Therefore, it's better bet right before the match.

Let's go step by step shall we? :p

I do see Brazil having a difficult match, however I do think that they are more likely to lose from the Colombia/Uruguay duo than Chile, I kind of liked Uruguay but given recent "developments" I think it's better for Colombia to take that one, and either one will give huge problems to Brazil in the quarters, and if Brazil somehow manages to get to the semis, Germany is waiting there. :derp

I also want to comment on the Costa Rica vs Greece match as it will be most entertaining whoever passes there. I root for Costa Rica as I want them to somehow crown this tournament with a semi final, one can hope ... their most difficult task awaits them in quarters ... Netherlands.

Brasil vs Chile: I would like Chile to win but on the other hand, I dont' know the impact an elimination for Brasil would mean for the rest of the world cup. Brasil should still win.

Columbia vs Uruguay: I hadn't the change to watch Columbia yet. But Columbia is the only team we encountered in the last 3 years that was really superior to us. And without Suarez, I don't see a miracle for Uruguay. Anyway, nobody want Uruguay to win.

Netherlands vs Mexico: Lets face it. Netherlands are already in the semi-finals. It would be a massive surprise to have any other scenario. If the surprise is happening, I see more Costa Rica doing it than Mexico.

Costa rica vs Greece: As I always say, a victory from Greece is a defeat for football. It is the most annoying to play. They just go fully defensive all the time. I even think they hold the record for a FIFA match with 20% possession during a whole match. It's even more annoying because it works. Dispite a lack of talent, greece is performing quite well in the last 10 years. They even won the euro in 2004. But Costa Rica is the real dark horse of the tournament, they just got out of a group with 3 world champions. I really want Costa Rica to win and even to reach semi-finals (where they can proudly lose to us).

France vs Nigeria: France easily.

Germany vs Algeria: Germany easily.

Argentina vs Switzerland: We will have to see if Switzerland kept the momentum gained against Honduras. It won't be the same team as against France. But Argentina got a Messi. I would say tough win for Argentina. And there is a part of me wanting Messi to win the world cup just to see Pele swallowing his pride ...

Belgium vs USA:
USA: - We have an army (of supporters)
Belgium: - We got a Courtois.
Courtois is the best keeper left in this world cup and maybe the best keeper in the world. If we don't win with our offensive talent, our defensive end is still present. The only loose end was Vertonghen who just scored and is back to his senses.

Conclusion of the first round:
Old Europe is KO. Asia is irrelevant (as it should be ...). South America is strong and the real surprise is the CONCACAF zone. US, Mexico and Costa Rica qualified, that's really unexpected.

And the best game of the first round is between two eliminated teams: Italy and England.
They really should do something about FIFA ranking. Belgium and Switzerland didn't deserve to be a top seed. It's good for my country but I'm not blind. We didn't prove anything yet.

My bets for today:

Brazil x Chile (It will be a hard match, but no one said WC is easy. We have quality and Chile is our "freguês*". XD)
Columbia x Uruguay (I always thought, during this World Cup, that Columbia has more quality than Uruguay, and now that they are without Suárez this thought is more intense.)

*Note: "Freguês" means in PT, among other things, that a team lose for us most of the time when we play with each other. :edu

If Brazil doesn't play better than they have lately, i think it will be a really difficult match, similar to the difficulty they had against Mexico.

I like Colombia, because my team has some recent history with Colombia's players. In case you don't know players like Falcão, Guárin, James Rodriguez have once played in FC Porto, and even though it seems like Guárin is not playing the same quality as he once did when he played for us, James is prolly so far one of the best of this WC.

This just shows how a lot of stuff can change in one year.
1 year ago, both João Moutinho and James were sold together to Monaco for 70M euros. At that time, since Porto had a deal with Sporting that we would have to pay 25% of the difference of price sold based on the price we bought to Sporting, in case the price we sold Moutinho would be greater than the price we bought him which was 11M euros.

At that time James after being away from the fields from quite sometime because of an injury, came back looking completely unlike his old self. No creativity, the quality of his pass which was one of his great qualities seem to had completely extinguish, he basically stopped looking like one of the most promising players and started looking like a modest player. It wouldn't be so painful to watch if you knew the player was only capable of that, but James was a prodigy ... after Hulk/João Moutinho i would have to value him as one of the best players that had played for us in the last couple of years.

So i wasn't really that sad when James was sold, because his performance had dropped a lot. Gladly it seems that he is now once again playing at his level.
Moutinho on the other hand was being enormous on our team, and was one of the reasons why we won so much on the 3 years he was with us.

In the end in order for Porto to win as much as possible and Sporting to get as less as possible from Moutinho sale, James was sold for 45M while Moutinho was sold for 25M. At that time, everyone especially from Sporting was mad because Moutinho was performing a lot better than James and the price for Moutinho should had been a bit higher and James a bit lower.

But their experience on Monaco has been completely different. James was considered one of the best, while Moutinho was a disappointment. Moutinho vs Ghana played a bit like his old self, but he could still play better than that. He is prolly one of my favourite players, so i would like if he could setup his play once more.
All this story just to tell how so much can change in one year.

Regarding Colombia, there's more players that are connected to Porto, and in this case i am referring to our present, with both Martinez and Quintero (and Quinones but this one barely played for us). While Martinez had a so-so year, and looked a lot weaker than his first year with us, he is pretty solid, even though definitely bellow Falcão.

Quintero on the other hand, also had a rough year, like every single player on our team, but i believe he has a lot quality. He has the potential to match James's quality, and he is definitely one of the players that i see bringing the most profit for my team.

Even if WC doesn't mean much to me any more for obvious reasons, Colombia is one of those National Teams that i would like to see performing good.
Without Suarez, i think that they can beat Uruguay easily!

I hope you are wearing your Neymar jersey while doing so. :3c

With quite a few old champions falling recently, I really would like to see a new name among the title holders, either that or Germany as champion. Though the odds are that we will have at least 3 previous winners in the semis.

Our defense was too distracted in Chile's goal, what a shame. Our defense must be careful, besides that, we are playing well, we managed to make various attacks, but feels like that our players are afraid of kicking.
The referee is Chiles's side so far, a clear penalty not marked.
