Preview issue #18
Shokugeki no Souma (Cover and Lead Colour to celebrate its upcoming anime adaptation)
Gintama (Center Colour to celebrate the anime)
Seraph of the End (Center Colour, promotion chapter for its upcoming anime)

Since UBS is ranked 13th according to the 2chan guy and the upcoming issue should include 20 chapters I am inclined to believe that there should be a ranked series/or a title with centre colour pages between UBS and the bottom 6.
#17 :
Haiykuu (Lead Colour & Cover)
.
.
.
05. Cyborg Roggy
.
.
08.Kagamigami
.
10. Black Clover
.
.
13.Ultra Battle Satellite
...
Toriko
Kochikame
Bleach
Gakkyū Hōtei
Takujou no Ageha
The Story of Isobe Isobee

Iwashiro is such a refined mangaka, though I prefer the pencil style he used in Psyren than the more digital look of Kagamigami. I just don't see any glaring weaknesses in any of the new series, like the last two batches. They might not all blow you away but I think they have merit.

I on the other hand, always wondered what Psyren would have looked like with a more digital artwork, being about the future and such. I would toy with the idea if it would have been more successful with Iwashiro as a writer and Youichi Amano as an artist.

This batch really is better than any I recall IMO , I want each of the series to taste success and find in each something I want the magazine to keep. UBS has great action sequence and it's something that wasn't in the magazine for years, Roggy has a fascinating world, a unique main character and feels like it can really go anywhere. Clover has it's great art and Kagamigami is by my 3rd favourite mangaka so I can't wait to see where it all goes.
Props to Hero for an amazing achievement as well, having almost 350K per volume right now is crazy, I can't wait to see if it will break the 300K while on charts. speaking of which, Soma might do it the first time with this volume.

Am I the only one who prefers Iwashiro's flawed art (in Psyren) over Amano's technically correct soul-less art?

Both of their skills aren't anything to write home about. It's fine but nothing special.

I don't think any of the fictional series in Bakuman would work in real life, but I'm sure Ohba would have been able to do much better than the author of GH.
I mean, Reversi is just DN with very slightly different mechanisms, ZombieGun/Crow are battle manga that may or may not work depending on if Eiji is as interesting as the manga claims, and PCP would definitely work if done right, IMO.

honestly I think the series in Bakuman are portrayed realistically regarding how popular they would be. but an IRL PCP would just be very hard to write.

PCP would be a good series, though I love that genre, and those characters designs were incredible.

Reversi feels like a been there done that type of affair, only thing good about it was OLDCODEX Frame in Flame.

I mean, of course it feels that way: it's just a rip off of Death Note. But if you never read DN, and Ohba wrote a good version of Reversi, it would blow you away.

Regardless, I liked GH and I'm disappointed with its inevitable end soon. I hope Obata gets back to drawing something else fast, he's my favorite artist and he's getting a bit old, I don't want him to retire soon.

Manga artist, age 46, is claimed to be old and about to retire in a country with average life expectancy of 84,6.

More at 11 in the Mangahelpers WSJ ToC thread.

It depends on the author. This guy is Osamu Akimoto... He is 63 years old now.

It is possible to count with your hands how many times Kochikame took a break, people say. :fan

And you'd have ten fingers left over.

And as long as we're talking about manga authors being old, obligatory Araki mention.

Sure... :fan

Araki was born in 1960, Osamu Akimoto is older.

I think he's just saying that Araki isn't young. Which...he isn't. Despite looks. I think we're aware that Osamu is older.

Who's that in your avatar/signature BTW?

Google Araki being a vampire, you'll get what I mean.
His avatar's from Seraph of the End, it's... Asuramaru? Pretty sure that's it, don't really remember the names.

On topic, Does anyone recommend EWSJ for someone who only really cares about One piece and Toriko? I'm considering getting it but I can't really summon the fucks to care about any other series in it.

I'll take your word for it then. I'm like 60% sure I won't like what wikipedia says. That's a fightin' percentage. Though I guess I should just read this series for myself.

Do not remotely care about Toriko myself, but if you're just reading two series a week, that's what... 25 cents a chapter? Well, One Piece is always going on break so not exactly, but I'd say it's still a good deal. Plus you can always just sell the Yu-Gi-Oh cards they give you and make money off the subscription. I personally make sure that my subscription always gets renewed during NYCC week, since then I can get it for five bucks off.

I don't read Owari no Seraph (maybe I'll watch the anime) buuuut why the mansplaining? If Ashuramaru is cute, then they are cute enough to be in a signature. Just look at Nagisa from AssClass. He's a guy, but male fans find him cute anyway and Matsui likes drawing him in girls clothes. At the end of the day these are just fictional characters. :V Its not like you're in a bar looking for a date and have to think about who Ashuramaru really is or something. :neutral
