Soul Catchers sells more than 30K...
Exactly. That's why it is not parameter for anything. You just proved my point.

Any Jump series could make 30k in a character popularity poll, if the fans cared about such a thing.

Wow. I'm really surprised. Never tought Soul Catchers was so well received. I can imagine Jump moving it to Next instead of cancelling it right away only because of that. Sales also have a certain influence, but those figures are impresive.

If fans care, Shueisha cares. You've proven the point there. You know, popularity polls ain't free. People paid.

It is so hard to understand what I'm trying to say? Anyway, let it be, for the sake of my sanity... :fail

Im new here so I dont know but how often do these cancellation rounds come around? I know the ToC shows series' rankings of 8 chapters ago so how long do that wait after the first 8 chapters?
I would have to count to give the precise number, but it is almost right after the 8th chapter of the last series that started in the last batch. There were series in the past that were cancelled with 10 chapters, so there are around 10 weeks between cancellation rounds I might say, depending on how many series started... :hmm

It was and it is still in danger of cancellation. World Trigger is the most lucky series I've ever seen in this magazine, seriously. It stays more in the lower part of the magazine than the upper part and still it always had cushions to free it from cancellation. You cannot deny that World Trigger is not the most comfortable situation. It has always been like that and that's why people arises the possibility of its cancellation, the POSIBILITY. I never gave any date, I always said that if it continues like this, it will not last as long as it is expected to last. Fortunately, so far many circumstances freed it from cancellation.
Remember that you're talking of the TOC, that isn't pure rankings. But even on them it never was in danger of cancellation.
Also note how Medaka Box and Nurarihyon were in worse situations than it!

(Note: the values I'm using is counting Cover pages, Color pages and everything, so it goes from 1 to 20(or more))
2015(right now) -> ranking average: 12th, worse position: 18th, best position: 7th.
2014 -> ranking average: 11st, worse position: 19th, best position: 1st.
2013 -> ranking average: 9th, worse position: 17th, best position: 4th.

Since when is 9, 11 and 12 danger? If we consider 8 to 13 as middle of the ranking, we have that World Trigger was always in the middle of the Pack!

9th, 11th and 12th aren't great positions either though. It's true what Leoat says, WT could and should do better than 2 years of serialization. I'm glad that its volume sales are increasing but sadly the sales don't really reflect on the TOC rankings if you look how WT's average went from 9 to 11 to now 12. The year's young so WT could still get 10 as average or better but there is also the possibility that it does worse.
And like you said, Big, what really counts is for one how WT is placed in the rankings once all new mangas are ranking and for another how WT sales/ranking/popularity are after the anime ends. For now we can only speculate if it lasts 4 years or 6 years or might even take a nosedive and end after 3 years or gets a little miracle and lives for like 8 years somehow one way or another. XD

Yeah, World Trigger indeed was lucky and it's not in a confortable situation. BUT there have been luckier series in the magazine in the recent past, like Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Sket Dance and Medaka Box.

MTNN got a solid four-year run and an anime, yet it was never able to sell 100K copies in the first week. Its last volume sold 85.874 copies in 6 days. And its rankings also weren't great.

Sket and Medaka were in even worse situation in their earlier chapters, and were able to last six and four years, respectively. Sket Dance got last place for the 8th and the 9th chapters, and was only able to get out of the bottom in chapter 15. They also sold less than WT. For the 1st week of sales, here's how much the 10th volume of each series sold:

World Trigger #10: 156.001 (5 days)
Medaka Box #10: 104.800 (7 days)
Sket Dance #10: 78.146 (5 days)

Exist one series writen by an author who used all the cliches in the history on the manga and more because it have terror with cancelled the series , used the fanbase of his previous work to buy his volume and it needed to have an anime making by shaft to sell (before that , they sell like yamada).
ahhh and it began and still running in a era without other big rom-com in the jump(unlike WT who had 5 or 6 nekketsu), Kano began one series but it was to lazy to continue, kousomi was a bad luck and a better writer in that genre not appeared to have intention to serialized.
Stay in the bottom or sell bad is not the only indicator to defined a luck series, Nisekoi is the series with the most luck in the history of the shonen jump because no one have intention to make an harem or rom-com....

I recently bought a tankobon (Jojolion 9) and I got the typical shueisha avdertising flyer. (Called jump paradise)
It has info on the special Naruto project due to happen in 2015.

Edit: I just skimmed through it and it really hasn't got much info, but well, there's a new illustration book, a Kakashi spin off and more stuff from the franchise.

Isn't the spin-off? IIRC it will have something like a play... I don't remember... :hmm
I hope the spin-off doesn't last much. Kishimoto has to rest and then focus in the his next work, if he does one...

No, no. The novel ain't going to be serialized in Jump. Nor any spin off. Those are published by Shueisha but not in the main magazine, of course.

What hell we are expecting in the next cancellation round then? o.õ
Seeing the last page of Naruto, it tells that a new story will start in Spring 2015 and side stories will be published by Jump Books. You are mistaking something.

I'm mistaking something? I think it's pretty clear. A new story doesn't mean a new manga. And being published by Jump Books doesn't equal to being published in WSJ. As I stated here in november, there is never going to be a spin off in the main magazine, mainly because there's lots of satellite publications specifically created for that point.

It is you who is not understanding. Here the page: http://img.mangastream.com/cdn/manga/49/2593/27.png

It is about Naruto sons, IIRC.

Anyway, I promised to myself never enter in pointless discussions here again, if you think you are right, okay. Whatever.

Nah, "been in danger since the first time" is not so right. While it spent more time on the middle-to-bottom, there's time when WT is on the tops (or middle-top, still on the upper rank though). One thing that people usually forget about is that rank can change according to how the reader respond to the story being presented. WT's rankings could be so diverse because I admit there's some chapters that are not flashy (not catching much attention), and there's the flashy ones.
I guess people in this thread already used to see things like One Piece and Ansatsu who stay in the top forever or series who stay on the bottom until it got removed. Anything that doesn't stay forever in the upper ranks is quickly judged as failure.

Lemme get the point clear since it seems I'm not making myself understood. The side stories are most likely light novels, like this Kakashi Hiden, the first of the "Naruto secret chronicles" which are BOOKS about side stories, published by Shueisha (the company)
A new story will start, but we don't know if it'll by authored by Kishi, and much less if it'll be featured in Jump (the magazine)
I'm not trying to argue, nor to convince you, I'm just trying to make my point. Relax, you'll live longer! :teehee

Poll Indicates Japan's Most Influential Weekly Shounen Manga Magazine

The result was obvious...

The system that Jump created really works... It is much bigger than any other magazine...
Well that poll is just made by 100 people, all male, and only 5 are teenagers, so majority of voters weren't even in the demographic of the magazine, making this poll really weak in credibility.
Also to note that the poll is not about "shonen", but about any weekly manga. Morning and Big Comic Spirits, Seinen Magazines, were also voted.

Though, is obvious that Weekly Shonen Jump system works and that is the most influential magazine when,

The magazine came 10 years after its biggest concurrence and after just 5 years of life becomes the most popular manga magazine by a huge margin, and keeps that place, while continuously increasing in popularity, for 25 consecutive years.
And even after loosing that place for 5 years, time where it was always close to the 1st place, was able to get the position back and get again a big margin and keep it for already 12 more years and continuing.

Got the Guinness record of most printed issue ever with 6.53 million copies, for issue 3-4 of 1995.

Have more and in better positions(overall) titles in the Top 100 most printed manga series ever!
- 6 series in Top 10(One Piece, Dragon Ball, Kochikame, Naruto, Slam Dunk, Hokuto no Ken),
- 4 series in Top 20(Jojo, Bleach, Captain Tsubasa, HunterxHunter),
- 4 series in Top 30(Kinikuman, Samurai X, Rokudenai Blues, Dragon Quest),
- 3 series in top 40(Yu Yu Hakusho, Gintama, Prince of Tennis),
- 2 series in top 50(City Hunter, Yu-Gi-Oh),
- 3 series in top 60(Dr.Slump, Cobra, Bastard!!),
- 4 series in top 70(Kuroko no Basket, Death Note, Shaman King, Sakigake!! Otokojuku),
- 8 series in top 80(Hitman Reborn, Saint Seiya, Hikari no Go, Kimagure Orange Road, Rookies, Jigoku Sensei Nube, Eyeshield 21, D.Gray Man),
- 4 series in Top 100(Toriko, To Love-ru, Nurarihyon, Assassination Classroom)
Total of 38 series!

Biggest number of anime:

It was announced before when it was ending that there was going to be a mini series in the Spring about Boruto from one of Kishi assistants. I'm not sure what the confusion is....
