I just read the rest of the pages and now I can say that the series has a huge potential, I liked it a lot... It has a great art, likeable characters and a story with potential, the first chapter was an explosion and gave me a strong impression. I think that many things happened in this chapter and it ended where it should end, in opposition to some opinions above. I really think that it can survive, principally because it is quite unique in the magazine. The unique point that can be treated as a weak point is the main character, who is too normal, but I think that the whole point of the series is to make him a great dancer and solve some problems (that I cannot mention here), so it is acceptable, principally because the dance club members are pretty interesting, all of them. :lmao

Well, I really enjoyed it and I hope it continue that way and become a success. I think it deserves its own thread to discuss it properly, I might do one later.
Thanks to Eru13, your translation was helpful the last pages where my time to read ended. I hope you can continue translating and some scan do it.

Straighten Up! Welcome to Shika High's Competitive Dance Club 1 was a pretty dull affair. It had the problems that I had already expected it to have. Dance series really need the music to sell them. There was no indication of anything in the chapter to tell us what type of music they were moving to. Additionally, nothing was specifically about the dance either, but more on the fanservice aspect of being a perv while dancing. That is unfortunate. They did reference Frozen, but I never saw it so I wouldnt have even known the cliche taking place (odd that something from Frozen is cliche, didnt it only just come out on disc a few months ago?).

Art was no good personally. Baseball club boys had good designs. I wish this was a baseball manga :(

We really have to find an acronym for this name. Well, I think that "dance" already identifies it in this thread. :lmao

The first chapter of Straighten Up! Welcome to Shika High's Competitive Dance Club was ok

the manga gave me some SnS vibes

I'm curious to see how will the mangaka keep this interesting though

I think that there isn't any place now in Shonen jump, and I doubt it will surive.(It could, but they should cancell old series, and If Nisekoi or AC will end in the right time,it could have a place in the weekly)

---------- Post added at 10:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 PM ----------

I think that after the these new series there will be 5 ANNIVERSARIES(counting the fact that the issue after Devilyman will be in June, and with all of these anniversary it will take a Whole month and we should consider even manga of July and August maybe) of Jump's series to have lead and cp(World trigger,2nd anniversary, whose It's been a long time since it doesn't have a color,Hinomaru zumou 1st anniversary,Boku no hero 1st anniversary,Toriko 7th anniversary, psi kusuo saiki 3rd anniversary,Assassination classroom 3rd anniversary)

I cannot deny that Jump is saturated, I was one of the first people that talked about it here, but we discuss it since before BnH. :lmao
I think it has potential to survive, not be in the top 5, which is truly full right now, but if it becomes a average series regarding TOC and sales I will be happy. The magazine has some series that are struggling to survive and can end. Also, the series doesn't have direct adversaries. I can make a more complete post about it when I get home.
AC and Nisekoi are the famous series that we can see an ending coming. AC may end by the next round. Nisekoi can end by the end of the year.

I dont understand how the magazine is saturated? Gakkyu Hotei is leaving which makes room for these series. If everything were truly popular, then those series could pull a SC and live on in Jump+

"World Trigger" Hiatus Continues Due to Author's Health Concerns

World Trigger situation couldn't be worse...

---------- Post added May 12, 2015 at 12:04 AM ---------- Previous post was May 11, 2015 at 11:58 PM ----------

I don't think that Gakkyu Houtei has any relevance to the discussion for obvious reasons...

In bold the series that doesn't have any perspective of ending.

Sesuji wo Pin! to〜Shikakou Kyougi Dance-bu e Youkoso〜
One Piece
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu

Naruto Gaiden
Shokugeki no Souma
Black Clover
Haikyuu!!
Boku no Hero Academia
Toriko
Nisekoi
Hinomaru Zumou
Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen-mae Hashutsujo

Kagamigami
Gintama
Ultra Battle Satellite
Saiki Kusuo no Sainan
Bleach
Isobe Isobee Monogatari
World Trigger

Putting all those series aside, the rest is new series or already pratically cancelled series. It is saturated, no doubt.

Is the first chapter of Sesuji wo Pin! significantly different from the one shot in any way? I'm actually reading through the previous ToC threads and someone is reporting how the one shot was met with extremely positive responses and how Oda was praising it and how people where depressed that it wasn't being made into a series immediately.

I kinda disagree with you on Gintama and Ansatsu, those could have a natural ending anytime soon

I really dont see assassination classroom lasting beyond a few months especially if this backstory is nearing its end.

The magazine isn't any more saturated than it's ever been. There's always "newer" series that haven't really established themselves yet, meaning they could go either way, and the "safe" established series. I don't see how this point in time for Jump is any different than in the past.

That's the issue when people overhype series as Black Clover and Kamigakami before even knowing how they will perfom saleswise.

I was referring to Leo's point, in which he himself didn't consider either of those as "hits".

Just wondering where he gets the idea that the current state of WSJ is anything new.

Well, Naruto Gaiden will end by the next round and very probably UBS will go along with it. So that should make enough space for the next new series.
And I think it's realistic to guess that, out of this round's three newbies, at least two will fail. And we don't even know if Kagamigami and Black Clover will be able to keep their good ranks for a long time, and we also don't know their sales yet...

Therefore, I don't think any long-running series is in danger at least for the next few months. And I'm not even considering the possibilities of natural endings.

Sales are not that important. Ranking are what matter most. Even a new series doesn't do as well as AC's or Boku's first volumes, which most won't, that doesn't mean they can't improve later on. Will Black Clover sell close to 100k it's first volume? Probably not. But I can tell you this, it's sure to do better than Zumo and only improve from there (assuming it keeps its current momentum). Zumo alone is a great indication of how much sales matter in comparison to rankings. Psyren was another. Now whether something can be a legitimate hit with low sales is another story. But sheer survival isn't an issue if it has good rankings.

I know about Assassination Classroom like I said I'm my previous post, but it's just what we think about the series which is probably not what the editors think. They will try to extend this thing no matter what. I have strong suspicious that it was dragged until here. :lmao

The line-up of the magazine was renewed a lot in the last couple of years. If you see the TOC in 2011, all the series were old series already and many of them could be seen ending in the next years and it was what happened. Now, however, the line-up is too young, it will take years to have another renovation. I don't see Boku no Hero Academia, Shokugeki no Soma, Haikyuu, Hinomau Zumou, Isobe, PSI and World Trigger ending in the next couple of years and there are old series like One Piece, Toriko, Bleach that will not end either.
It is nonsense to say that Jump is the same just because it always introduces new series because it is new series replacing new series, the core of the magazine will not change. If only new series replaces new series, it means that the series are not lasting, therefore they are not successes.

I really hope that this year AC, Nisekoi (I bet people will not believe that I'm saying this. :p), Bleach (End at once :fail) and Gintama end to give more space. Old series has to end to give space to new series.
New series -> New series = Bad
Old series -> New series = Good

Psyren Vol 4 sells 37K(Better than Hinomaru zumou) , and the next volume increase the sales (Like World trigger, but never supeared the 100K line), and also the rankins of psyren was mediocre, I remember who was in the bottom 5 one or 2 times before the volume 1 release.
Neuro and medaka box rankins was mediocre and allways have in the bottom , the series didn't axe because Matsui and NisioIsin have a solid fanbase(But well the Neuro sales was mediocre too).
In resume, the Rankins only matter for the 5 first volume, after this the Jump see the increase of the series sales, if in one moment the rankins increase(example , it has the Jin appearance) and his potencial, that's because axed Magico, Enigma , kurogane,.... and not World trigger, nisekoi,...
And that's why they will cancelled Zumou if it doesn't increased the sales in a 78% percent (the only chance is the anime adaptation).

You're crazy.
If the author continue to that situation, AC will finish(But we know matsui and I don't confirm that), Gintama is probably but the same thing of AC. And nisekoi.... the only situation is like 2 or 3 new rom-com begins and sell more than nisekoi and that fall his sales
