Yeah, even before Merlin took most of it away I can't image he was using more than what we've normally seen of him before then. King noticed that Meliodas power spiked before he killed Gelda; clearly he wasn't letting himself constantly be as strong as he was when he was fighting Galan.

On Escanor being stronger than Meliodas, he might be and he might not be, but I will say that saying that Escanor is going to be stronger because he hasn't shown up doesn't make much sense. You might as well say that all the other Sins are going to be stronger than him because they haven't gotten their power ups yet. I personally don't think Escanor is going to be stronger, but we will see. I do think that part of the reason Escanor counts Meliodas as one of his most respected people (along with Merlin) is because he was the only one that could get in line when he went out of control, but again, we'll see if there is any truth to that.

Edit: But there really is no questioning that Meliodas had all his power in Edinburgh, that was twelve years before the current story, two years prior to when Merlin took it away. Whether or not Merlin knew the full extent of Meliodas' power is another question.
I think it pretty much makes sense (about the argument of him not showing up). It's very common in shonen the correlation between the story line and the appearance of strong characters. I'm pretty sure Escanor will show up after the sins will have their power-ups.
Also, there is no doubt Meliodas was holding back his strenght in the past, because he didn't need it, but I still think the fact that him not being able to carry Escanor's ST is relevant. Of course he's not gonna transform into his demon form just for the sake of carrying it, but if he can carry Diane like no problem and that the author already showed us he has an incredible strenght, I really doubt Nabaka didn't wanna give us a message about the fact that Meliodas with his powers back in the days couldn't be able to carry Rhita and even complaining about the weight (and then growing tired of it saying "Now carry your ST by yourself".

One thing that also tickles me in the Edinburg chapter was Meliodas killing that vampire. Firstly it's kinda weird from him to annihilate an opposent specially if she didn't do anything to him, but then the main thing is that he killed her with this black thing technique. Anyone else thinks it was way too much of an over-kill ? I mean he could have used his sword or something, but no he just blasted that poor girl and made an incredible hole in the ground. I thought he'd only do that against an opponent he'd really hate

Meliodas likely used his darkness technique on Gelda in order to give her a less painful, quick death.
If he'd sliced her with Lostvayne, it would have taken ages to completely destroy her body, which likely causes extreme pain.

Would you rather die by getting blown up in a second or being burnt alive for minutes?

Yeah i think the same as Gallon !
Not forget that Gelda was a vampire, so even dismembring her will not be enough to kill her ( Orlandi the Rose was still alive with only his eye left when Ban blowed him up with a punch)... It seems that the only way to completly kill a vampire is pure and simple disintegration or power of the same type as Purge that purify abominable souls !

Still that Darkness attack seemed overkill lol.

Anyway, since many are discussing Pride, I wonder if Wrath could reinforce his combat capabilities with his Darkness powers by engulfing the heavens in complete darkness...

I think it's stated somewhere that the 7 sins are all from a different race. So I cannot understand why Escanor is human in the fanbook because :
Meliodas - Demon
Ban - Human (undead)
Diane - Giant
Gowther - Artefact
King - Fairy
Merlin - ?
Escanor - (Goddess?)
Pretty sure Escanor is related to the goddess clan with his sunny shiny powers. The mystery is Merlin, I don't think there is an other race left in the manga now

According to the fanbook, Ban isn't considered an actual human anymore, though. (if i remember correctly, it calls him 'ex-human' or something like that - drinking the fountain of youth changed his race / how he was classified). It specifically says that Escanor is human - I don't think that the fanbook would have lied about his race, because if Nakaba wanted to keep it hidden, it'd probably say 'unknown' like Merlin's does.

Merlin is the goddess I think.

Escanor - Vimpares? His power is sort of a contradiction though. IIRC, he needs the darkness to power-up & after powering up, he seems to utilised flames & light.

Escanor is human, his specificity is that is power is very unique, for a human.

Merlin can't be a goddess. Goddesses have the power to heal, as seen through elizabeth's apostle of goddess power thingy. Merlin specifically makes the point that she is unable to do such a thing. Merlin is probably some magical creature that resembles a human. Which could be a number of things.

I had her pegged as a type of genie for a while, but I doubt it anymore. If we go by her namesake and Sacred Treasure's namesake, she might end up being a hybrid of some sort.

The problem is that we don't know if Merlin was telling the truth about that, though. Bartra had a stomach ulcer, and she made him ingest an intimidating-looking yet ultimately harmless creature that supposedly eats tumors - a stomach ulcer isn't a tumor. I'm pretty sure she was just trying to mess with him.

So maybe she is like her namesake From the Robert de boron...
In that version Merlin is half demon half human, however he was originally conceived to be the antichrist...
However instead of going through with it, the mother confesses and they baptize him at birth resulting in him not having any demonic powers, however he still has a few abilities
1. Due to his demonic heritage, he gains knowledge of the past and present, and due to God
He gains some prophetic knowledge of the future...
2. Merlin has the ability to shape shift...

This may be a bit of a stretch however...
Merlin is by far one of the most knowledgable of the sins...
Along with the fact that she knows somewhat about demons and can use at least a variation of their spells...

As for the shape shifting it may take a form of not her, but the people around her...
1. Took Mel's powers, thus he became weaker
2. Helps Diane shape shift with those pills...
3. Made armor to keep gowther from changing....
4. Was able to shut gowther down (literally changed his shape)

I will post it also here because it is quite important analysis of what happened until now and future prediction

Meliodas doesn't need his magic abilities(countering abilities) because he has power of darkness and hmm it looks like only Meliodas is able to use power of darkness. Commandments are always at their peak, their power is activated but Meliodas is different. His power is divided on stages.
1 stage- base form in which he crushed Galan
2 stage- form with demonic mark
3 stage- power of darkness
And possible 4th stage. Complete transformation and assimilation with darkness. So there is one conclusion. Meliodas is stronger than most of commandments in his base form. Stage 2 will be enough to defeat the strongest commandments and stage 3 and possible stage 4 are going to be used against future real enemy but we already know that Meliodas has to learn how to use his power of darkness properly because in the past he couldn't because he was walking nuke.
So there is no one at this world who knows real power of Meliodas. He himself probably doesn't know his peak because he couldn't use his full power or at least while being conscious. Maybe Druids know because sealed his power and had to compress it to be able to lock into amber. And that is why they shit their pants.

Yeah, I know it is stated in the fanbook, so it's probably true. It's just weird to consider him as human and not Ban for exemple. Although he's immortal, it's the only thing that is not human in him. Otherwise he's just an incredible fighter, probably the strongest of human. Whereas Escanor is literally a walking sun. I can understand human with unique ability, but being able to burn people and castle like that without your body being harmed in the process is kinda weird. That's why I really thought he was related with the Goddess clan, specially when the vampire King mistook his ability with those of the demons, like Escanot being able to cut through his regeneration.
That probably means he's also capable of dealing wounds that Ban cannot heal, and Goddess being probably the opposite of demon, it would have made sense if Escanor was from the goddess clan (I'm thinking he's a human who was blessed by the goddess).
I think we'll have either Merlin or Escanor related to the goddess to make the sins from each race

I think that Escanor is not human.
I have a theory of about him being born from a human and a demon that maybe I will publish after.

Nope.

Nakaba has listed him as human. He's human. We know the race of every sin except merlin who nakaba has listed as a ?, or unknown.

He's a "regular" human discounting his power that he was born with for no reason.

No... Escanor's a human. That much has been confirmed by Nakaba. Is it so hard to believe that he's a normal human with an abnormal power?

Honestly, it's kind of sad to see that so many people have decided that because Escanor's ridiculously powerful, he can't be a human, or that he couldn't have gotten his power naturally / by pure chance. Why are humans automatically weak? The ten commandments said themselves that the power that filled the land 3000 years ago has all gone to humans now. Who's to say that Escanor hasn't just received a bigger chunk of that power for some reason?

I agree that he's 100% human as that is what nakaba has him listed as, but there is obviously a explanation for his one of a kind power.

Nakaba isn't just going to leave as "Yep he was just born strong for no reason/just lucky".

Although it has been said humans were way stronger back in the day, it's indeed weird to consider such a power in a regular human.

I agree in that escanor is human and everything but to be completely fair the demons did make the point that humans were the weakest and frailest race of all. And what we have seen in the manga supports the notion quite well, just look at the other races. All giants naturally have insane strength and creation along with long life spans and resilience. We saw the fairies fight the albion. While they weren't a match, every single fairy we have seen has some degree of magic. The goddess clan is presumably made entirely out of supernaturally powerful beings. As far as demons go, their cannon fodder has 1300 PL, the grey demons have over 2700, the albions which are regarded as toys are at about 5500. Humans are the only clan who don't naturally have power available to them. Only a relatively small percentage seems to have power. Out of those only a portion makes it to HK which requires 300 pl depending on the kingdom. Out of those that make it, the average PL of a HK seems to be 500. Which seems to be significantly less than the average of any other race by far. Well, fairies seem weak however they too weakened after the war. Considering magic comes naturally for them it is entirely possible that their average power could be well beyond 500 once they start training. Of course, the strongest of each race are probably roughly on par with each other. However in context humans are and will probably remain immensely weaker than every other race.
