Also Gajeel is very underrated. Gmg, he was just as effective as Natsu against the sabertooth dragon slayers. Both were winning and losing the same way. Both got beaten up by df Sting and got up at the same time. In the tartaros arc, both Natsu and Gajeel were winning and losing against the demons in the same fashion. So if both are not in dragonforce mode they are almost equal, but Natsu is still a bit stronger. So why is it now that Gajeel finally went dragonforce, many still put df Gajeel below base Natsu? Gajeel said that he was upset seeing the other ds surpass him, but he wasn't talking about power. He meant that he was a ds and he was last to get a cat and last that still didn't go into df, with even Wendy in his mind talking about being able to enter df mode any time she wants. For me I'd predict that df Gajeel would be stronger than base Natsu and even base Laxus or Jellal. Gray and Gajeel are being underestimated IMO. Neither one has magic that is as destructive as fire or lightning, blowing things up, well... because metal and ice don't blow up and aren't that flashy, but could still be just as strong.

Df Gajeel is put beneath many because metal magic doesn't cause mass destruction like some others. Gray doesn't have much feats this arc, but pretty sure he's close to Natsu. I hate giving Gray credit because he's Natsu's rival, but it is what it is. If based on feats, then yeah Gray doesn't deserve to be ranked as high in this arc. But a feat is an opportunity that he hasn't gotten yet as I believe he has the capabilities of achieving. Portrayal is a factor I include and because of that everyone has a slight difference in opinion, but overall the ranking now, thanks to everyone's contributions especially @Char, is more reasonable compared to when the arc began.

Overall why do i think Gajeel is below Natsu? Or that DF Gajeel < DF Natsu, which is essentially the same for me?

We've seen more feats from Natsu, which means nothing tbh. He's the main character so obviously he would receive more screentime.
But when we finally saw feats from Gajeel it was against Bradman.
What did Gajeel do against Bradman? Nothing spectacular. Defeating a Spriggan is great don't get me wrong (though he was supposed too die as well but anyway). But he showed nothing before DF. All he did wasn't different from pre time-skip. I genuinely didn't see the result of his training, if he trained at all. I don't even know if that's been stated (but we can assume safely he did, as everyone did).
Everyone did but some trained more than others. Natsu has been showed to have become EXTREMELY stronger. His growth rate is absurd. Gajeel on the other hand didn't prove anything compared to pre time-skip.

Now about DF. That's the big new thing from Gajeel, as DF is the strongest power-up of DS. But that didn't felt overwhelming.
Overall it felt like every other power-up from Gajeel. He inhales an element, becomes immune to the thing that troubles him (either Rogue's shadow, Torafusa's water, and now BMP), and stomps the guy.
I even question if that was really his DF, since it wasn't clearly stated and since it was no different from Gajeel's usual power-ups.

I'll probably get some hate by saying that, but yeah, Gajeel didn't impress me.
We can't g by portrayal alone.
Natsu --> absurd growth rate, he became vastly superior to what he was before
Gajeel --> probably normal growth rate, but didn't really show significant improvements imo
Same goes for Erza, she's still powerful don't get me wrng, Gajeel is powerful as well. But did they really show major improvements, in my opinion no they didn't.

That's the main reason why for me Gajeel is below Natsu in my list, and by Gajeel i mean DF Gajeel as well.

I can't like this enough, thank you very much for putting this out there....
Natsu soloed the twins in DF, Gajeel was capable of the same thing, look at his fight with Rogue on the last day of the GMG, he was easily manhandling Rogue, the effect wouldn't be any different even if Sting was there...
Base Natsu is definitely on Gajeel's level, the Natsu vs Lessio fight in the Guild Hall was like the Gajeel vs Bradman fight in the North before Levy intervened...
FDKM Natsu is also on Black Iron Gajeel's level since they were both able to finish off their opponents in the same manner, Gajeel just had a hard time against Bradman because he was intangible so he first had to find a way around that

I don't know dude. I don't even think i'm being biased but i truely believe Gajeel has been left behind by Natsu now.
I'm not a Natsu fanboy at all trust me, and i'm not a Gajeel hater either. I swear. :P

Imo the Jacb fight was full of gags and bullshit. One of the most disappointing fights without a doubt for me, and i can't take this fight as a measure of Natsu's strength.
Gajeel's fight on the other hand was WAY more serious since it was a matter of life and death. Gajeel was truely fighting for his life right there. There was no gags in this fight, unless i don't remember.

So yeah, even if we argue that those two fights were indentical and that Gajeel and Natsu displayed the same amount of power and strength, one fight was all about gags and not serious whereas the other one was dead serious with Gajeel trying to survive.

That's why imo we can't compare them only based on these two fights. Unfortunately the Bradman fight was the only feats we can get from Gajeel and as i said, this wasn't impressive. Same for Natsu, his Jacob fight wasn't impressive. But Natsu HAS more feats, contrary to Gajeel.
If we say that Gajeel's fight was his maximum (he entered DF, fought for his life and even was supposed to die in the end), then i can safely say that Gajeel's maximum is equal to what Natsu displayed against Jacob which is far from Natsu's maximum, as shown against Zeref for example.

pretty sure Zeref held back against Natsu... a lot. if that was Zeref's limit then August, Irene, Jellal and Laxus can beat him with low - mid diff.

gag or not, Natsu used his strongest mode with one of his strongest attacks to finish off Jacob. heck, it didn't even killed him, just knocked him unconscious.

Hmm, so how about looking at it this way, Natsu just took a few invisible weapons, meanwhile Gajeel fought someone who uses the Nine Demon Gates's Curse Abilities, the First, Second and Third Seals, and he still managed to edge out a victory...
Lessio was holding back on Natsu since his main priority was getting Fairy Heart, so in respect of their respective Spriggan 12 fights, Gajeel has a better showing than Natsu...
Also I would put Bradman above Lessio so there's also that to consider, no?

So why is it now that Gajeel finally went dragonforce, many still put df Gajeel below base Natsu?
I don't think anyone puts DF Gajeel below base Natsu, I'd say he's BDKM Natsu level at least.

In the communal ranking, people voted for BDKM Natsu being above DF Gajeel. That may be due to the overhyped feat of evaporating a lake (mountain level??). But you'll see the difference is marginal so we could safely assume half of the people would consider DF Gajeel above and half, below. IMHO, both have fought very different characters. For example, what is Bradman's durability (when tangible)? Hard to measure. What's stronger, DF Gajeel's consequent attacks or BDKM Natsu's punch? Who'd beat who if they fought? I lean on DF Gajeel, but let's not underestimate BDKM Natsu's capabilities of literally melting Gajeel (iron).

17. Natsu (47,37)
18. DF Gajeel (47,1)

But my point is that August and Eileen don't have the capability to defeat one just yet. Not because they are not slayers but because they don't have enough overall damage [Magic Power + Slayer Effectiveness].
Well I guess you've got a point. The thing is, we can't know. Makarov only hyped the Spriggans above the clouds but he never said "btw one spriggan individual is way stronger than one of the draogns we had to face" or anything like that.

Relying on feats, Irene actually dared to face the strongest dragon (and being for that matter) and did reasonably well, so I don't see why she couldn't beat a much, much, much weaker dragon (Zirconis for example, who I think Acnologia would laugh at). For all we know Irene threw a fire ball at Acnologia who could barely block it with his hand and with considerable setback, and she was arguably not even trying.

Don't get me wrong, August and Eileen have enough magic power to injure a dragon. But defeating one will probably take more like slayer advantage. Based on the feats we've seen from August/Eileen so far, I don't see them taking down a dragon.
I guess that if Natsu is 9 the average spriggan is 12, Irene and August are 20, but you need 35 to defeat a Dragon, and the dragon slayer factor happens to be a 5x, then Natsu can do so but Irene and August can't. So I guess this is your logic and it's indeed very respectable. I still think Irene and August are well capable of achieving a win against a regular dragon though.

[
Base Chelia with God Slaying Magic was barely able to scratch Dimaria. Only when Chelia had Third Origin (which massively increased her power) did she have a chance against her.
But how massive was that powerup? IMO she was probably not stronger than Kagura, but with her advantage she could pull off a win. And Kagura (or TO Chelia for that matter) was still leagues below Dimaria but the GS factor equated into a win. However Irene or August have been hyped to be above Dimaria so I assume they could defeat her. Which implies that if a mage is strong enough, he can pretty much defeat anything he wants, but he's not going to have the +250% (or whatever) bonus for effectiveness

Let me ask you this question though. From the opposite perspective, do you think TO Chelia could have beaten Dimaria without slayer advantage? If your answer is no, then that is my point with August and Eileen.
My answer would be she might've slightly injured her, but Dimaria would've beaten her mid diff at most. But I still believe August and Eileen to be so many tiers above TO Chelia, that it makes sense for me to think that they could be above a Dragon. Also, what is more powerful, a dragon or a god? The only reasonably strong god we've got to know is Dimaria and we can't know for a fact whether she's > or < a regular dragon.

I agree that the Spriggans are far better than GMG Jura. But the question is, how much did Jura improve between the GMG Arc to Alvarez Arc (1 year difference)? I believe there was a consensus that Jura didn't improve much since Tartaros and that he is arguably on Erza's level (almost on par with Ajeel) in the current arc. That would put him on the level of a Low-Medium Tier Spriggan. So the difference between Jura and a Spriggan isn't too far.
Jura pretty much stayed the same. I've seen opinions ranging from the claim he even went down (he went past his prime + he didn't train) to opinions saying he should be current Erza level (way too hyped, since Erza put a decent fight against a Spriggan, whereas a team of four arguably as strong mages were sh*ted upon). In the middle we get what's probably true: he improved marginally or he may have gotten as strong as the weakest GoI (which makes sense since durability-wise, the four of them were portrayed as equals...)

Jura is unfortunately far from borderline spriggan level:

Jura (high WS) > Warrod (low GoI) > Wolfheim (mid GoI) > Hyberion/current Erza (high GoI) > borderline Spriggan level (maybe Mirajane Alegria?) > Low spriggan level (Neinhart). Moreorless.

If you take a peek at the communal ranking, you'll see that he's fairly below any Spriggan. Therefore the gap between himself and a Spriggan should be so huge, than I can see Jura not even hurting a Dragon and a Spriggan pulling off a hard win.

I tend to differ here. The exchange between Eileen and Acnologia is very similar to Gildarts' experience. The only difference is that Acnologia straight up attacked Gildarts while he wasn't even willing to engage in a fight with Eileen. All this tells me is that Eileen is arrogant and that she is very much weaker than him from "running away". Honestly, I wouldn't even use Gildarts' battle with Acnologia as proof of his durability.
Not even close, IMO. While Acnologia speedblitzed Glidartz and ripped off an arm, a leg and most of his organs, Irene put a reasonably decent fight in which there was a interchange of attacks and Irene was actually capable of dodging one of his. Glidartz didn't achieve such a feat so that puts Irene faaaaaaaaar above THAT Glidartz. As for a possible Glidartz comeback, we cannot know how strong he'll come back. Weaker than Tenrou? As in Tenrou? Stronger than Tenrou? Vastly Stronger than Tenrou (Spriggan level)? Ridiculously stronger than Tenrou (August level)? We cannot know!

I don't deny their growth during the timeskip. But can they really defeat a dragon?
Their growth is simply and plainly ridiculous. It's usually the case that previous villains are no longer too big a threat after a couple of arcs have gone by. Erigor was a worm by the Tower of Heaven arc; that Jellal was a joke by the time we saw Hades, Mard Geer was simply too OP and Hades wasn't taken into account any longer since one of MG's lackeys could turn into the very Hades! (Although I consider Hades w heart on the same tier as Mard Geer). It was not ridiculous though: their growth was borderline believable but if you were understanding you could believe it.

Not after this timeskip, the main cast seems to have improved more than in the whole FT series. The gap that separates current Natsu to Tartaros Natsu is, IMO, bigger than the gap between Tartaros Natsu and beginning of series Natsu which is plainly ridiculous.

Having said that, to asnwer your question: yes, IMO, they can defeat a dragon.

If you look at Natsu, he had to go FDKM to beat (not kill) Jacob. That is already 1 power-up that Natsu had to use just to defeat a Low-Tier Spriggan. Although everyone may have improved, it isn't like they are godly right now. That is what I'm trying to get at. And just to make it clear, I don't believe the GMG dragons are fodders. Here is how I see it.
Yeah but there you are assuming that Jacob cannot defeat a Dragon. We don't know the limits of his haxy magic but maybe in his own dimension anything that enters is dead meat... He could very well be above GMG dragons for all we know. The thing is, we don't really know how regular dragons compare to Spriggan-level characters but I'd say that after this ridiculous 1 year growth, GMG dragons wouldn't be much of a problem for the current main cast.

Also GMG dragons were just regular dragons. Not fodder dragons, I don't think there's such thing as fodder dragons. Future Natsu spamming dragons was little believable to me unless that Natsu was actually as powerful as Alvarez Natsu.

So here is my point. How much weaker is Atlas Flame compared to Acnologia? A lot weaker, right? But not to the extent where you have to exclude Zeref, 11 Spriggans, Alvarez Empire, and Fairy Heart... If this is the case, Atlas Flame would be fodderized by Acnologia in his human form without the latter even having to move, use magic, etc. And that would be ridiculous.
Hmmm well I do get your logic and it sounds fine to me. It's just that you say it'd be ridiculous... Well to me it's already ridiculous the MC growth in this arc so if you ask me could human form Acnologia oneshot Atlas Flame?... I'll probably answer: yes. Because I consider God Serena superior to Atlas FLame anyway.

Jacob is not even that strong. he has a few daggers lol. his main weapon is Transport. he lacks firepower. his weapons are useless against Natsu because he can melt them which also means that his Stealth is useless because he cannot really hurt Natsu. Natsu was basically a bad match up for him.

Mira,"Their strength defies logic ,they are as strong as Gildarts or weaker than Gildarts".But she did not make any statement like this. She views their srength shocking and that's why she made this comment.
That's exactly what I'm saying. I don't know how her comment turned into a "Gildarts is as strong as August" discussion, when Mira didn't even mention him in the first place...

I hope that we will see Gildarts make a comeback this arc, but I'm skeptical he will even face August. He's probably being saved for the likes of Laxus, considering the following will most likely happen:
  • Natsu vs. Zeref;
  • Erza vs. Irene;
  • Gray vs. Invel.
Who knows, Gildarts might end up fighting Rahkeid.

"And behind him... is one who is called the king of all magic, near and far, old and new. August."
Can you provide the translation you are reading?

From my interpretation, Warrod is saying that August knows all forms of magic whether it is lost magic or new magic (like Eileen's Universe One). This is quite credible considering Makarov says the same thing when he says that August may know even more magic than Zeref himself. But for Warrod to say August is the strongest? I highly doubt it. That would probably be Zeref, excluding the dragons.
If August knows all forms of magic whether its lost or new that means he knows dragon slaying magic. Zeref is not considered a mage, he is considered an immortal, hence the humans VS dragon VS immortal headline for the war.

Was it stated that the weakest dragon slayers from 400 years ago could defeat dragons? If so, please post the panel because I must have forgot.
I mean the weakest mages that can actually slay a dragon, whatever that level might be.

Exactly. Jura couldn't do anything which proves my point. It takes a lot of power + dragon slaying magic to defeat a dragon. Base GMG Wendy barely damaged him. I call it a scratch at most.
But Jura did not do anything to Serena either, an arguably stronger version of Jura then the one that faced the dragons. Base GMG Wendy's fire power is borderline fodder compared to what we see today, she couldn't even scratch Ezel.

I won't deny this. I agree with you that August wasn't on guard but just keep in mind that a dragon's speed (especially when airborne) is not something to laugh at. Plus, like I said, their physiology automatically gives them an advantage in CQC. The only way I can see August survive without dragon slaying magic is if he has Future Rogue's magic (Dragon Supremacy).
The parent dragon speed is not something to laugh at, I'd like to think they are a step above the dragons we saw at GMG. But that is speed while gaining momentum, CSK is on a similar boat, once it actually comes to battle though they have shown to be quite slow hitters.

Yeah, but the difference in power between Zirconis and Acnologia should still be smaller than Eileen to Acnologia (in my opinion). As for her encounter with Acnologia, I think we all know that she somewhat has a high self-esteem. In a way, it is similar to Jacob. He thought he could solo Acnologia and the entire Fairy Tail guild. Now he is defeated and probably a prisoner of war.
I highly doubt it. The idea was that Acnologia could kill the likes of Zircnois effortlessly, he can't kill Irene effortlessly. That was made clear. The fact that base GMG Wendy was able to stun Zirconis is really all the proof I need that if you even out the playing field, they really aren't that scary. At least the weaker dragons. Of course there are likely tiers to the dragons as well. As a race they are superior to any other in Fairy Tail, I wouldn't question that.

If you believe in titles than God Serna is the strongest Mage in Ishgar, Gildarts is still the strongest Mage in fairy tail, Jura is the strongest human.
God Serenas title is outdated, he was only the strongest in Ishgar when he was still in Ishgar, in other words before this arc. Now that characters have grown immensely in strength he likely wouldn't be the strongest even if he came back. Gildarts being the strongest in FT isn't a title, it was a fact back on Tenrou (similarly to how August and Irene are factually the strongest Spriggans), however that is also outdated. GMG Jura is the pinnacle of what a regular mage is likely to achieve, any level of power above that is considered monstrous by mage standards. At this point thats a fair bit of characters (including Jura himself).

Crash has a hue AOE, it's safe to assume his other magic are on the same level.
No its not. All magic is different, how can you even say this.

The attack from August is not mountain busting level, that beam of energy was thin.
It wasn't thin at all. It was monstrously wide and high, there were pesudo mountain/rock structures right next to it dwarfed by it. If you still want to maintain that its not then so be it, think what you like.

Yes, this is true but in terms of magic, he can negate it all.
Except if its too much to negate.

I don't think Gildarts was blood lusted just because a dinosaur was eating Natsu. And it doesn't matter, he put way more effort into that punch than need to. The next panel shows him not even sweating as if nothing ever happened.
The hell was he bloodlusted for then? Natsu gets eaten by a dinosaur, he gets extremely mad and attacks it. That means he got mad at the dinosaur mate. It doesn't matter if he put more effort into that punch then he needed, he still put a bunch of effort into that punch.

But in the case with August, he was just stabbed and saw Brandish being controlled. He used his ugly black skin form to perform that attack, his facial expression is way more scarier than Gildarts.
He did not see Brandish being controlled, all he saw was her taking out a sword. How the hell is he supposed to think, oh shit, the girl that just told me she thinks of me as family is going to stab me. Just because he looks more intimidating then Gildarts as a character doesn't mean he was any more mad. Either way I agree that both were bloodlusted.

I strongly agree with @Firepower and @Emperor Spriggan here. Gajeel gets really underrated when it comes to a comparison with Natsu. I think it's pretty obvious that those two are around the same level. I would even go as far to say that Gajeel may be superior to Natsu.

People who say Base Natsu is stronger than DF Gajeel just ignore the whole manga it seems. Since Base Natsu and Base Gajeel are around the same level, which is pretty clear since they've always fought on par in battles against opponents as the Twin Dragons or Tempesta and Torafuza, we could state that DF Natsu = DF Gajeel since DF is stated to be a multiplier. Because DF Natsu has more feats doesn't mean he is directly superior to DF Gajeel. Fact is, DF Gajeel didn't even have to show us any spell since his hand-to-hand combat was super effective against curse power which also means he would've done better against Mard Geer than Natsu.

Anyway, the reason why I think Gajeel > Natsu is because of Iron Shadow Dragon Mode. It's the most hax mode which any Dragon Slayer is capable of using. I may ignore Natsu's portrayal here, but it's nothing more than clear logic that Gajeel could end Natsu with an Iron Shadow Dragon Roar surprise attack. Natsu can spam his FDKM spells all he want, but he won't do a single thing against a shadow.

Yeah Rogue is pretty overpowered that way.

Alright i think i'm in a absolute minority :P
Don't get me wrong guys, i understand your points about Gajeel being underrated. I agree also that Jacob was underwhelming, Bradman was way more deadly against Gajeel etc... I understand and can agree with most points you guys made.
... But that's just not how i felt when i read that Gajeel vs Bradman fight.
While i've been disappointed by Jacob's fight (gags, Jacob being mediocre without Transport etc), i've been equally disappointed by Gajeel to be honest. Not disappointed, better worded i didn't see any major improovements. He didn't seem faster than before, not stronger, not more durable...
So i get your points but even if i can agree that Gajeel is underrated, imo he's not Natsu level. Unless you mean to credit Gajeel as much of an absurd growth rate as Natsu's.

I strongly agree with @Firepower and @Emperor Spriggan here. Gajeel gets really underrated when it comes to a comparison with Natsu. I think it's pretty obvious that those two are around the same level. I would even go as far to say that Gajeel may be superior to Natsu.
I admit he's underrated, and in this discussion i'm the one underrating him. I'm admitting it. I like the character quite a lot, but in the current arc he just didn't impress me. I like Erza a lot (even despite PoF) but in this arc she didn't show any improvement. I feel the same abut Gajeel. He entered DF (if that was really DF, felt like just a new mode for me), that's the only new thing he showed.
I truely don't think he's superior to Natsu. That's very arguable and i guess it's a matter of opinions.

This is the main reason why i wanted to quote you. I kinda disagree with what you said here.
I personally place DF Gajeel above Base Natsu (not by a huge margin though), so i can agree with you.
BUT. When you're saying Base Natsu and Base Gajeel are around the same level, i disagree. The examples you provide are correct, but all from before timeskip. There's nothing in the manga to let us presume Gajeel trained as hard as Natsu when it has been stated and proven multiple times that Natsu's growth rate was tremendous, even abnormal.
They used to be equal, that i agree with. But the fact that they were equal before timeskip doesn't mean they are still equal. We can't use that logic, otherwise Laxus would be equal to Jura.
Also, "DF is stated to be a multiplier". I agree with this, however i'm surprised you're giving this argument. You were the one claiming that DF Wendy was top tier and massively underrated, when Base Wendy is basically fodder. My argument against your theory was that if Base Wendy is massively below Natsu or Gajeel, she should also be massively below them when all 3 are in DF since this is a multiplier.
You're using the argument that you disregarded for another character.

Because DF Natsu has more feats doesn't mean he is directly superior to DF Gajeel. Fact is, DF Gajeel didn't even have to show us any spell since his hand-to-hand combat was super effective against curse power which also means he would've done better against Mard Geer than Natsu.
I agree, more feats doesn't mean superior. I'm really looking forward to more feats from Gajeel (though with him defeating a Spriggan i doubt wel'l see a lot more from him).
I don't understand what you mean about Gajeel being super effective.

As you're saying, by this logic Rogue should be OP, and... He's not. Well it's a matter of opinion i guess, but i really don't think Rogue is top tier. He's one of the worst DS imo.
I'd agree that Gajeel can beat Natsu this way if we assume Rogue can beat Natsu. But that's definitely not the case.

I put DF Gajeel on FDK Natsu's level, with DF Gajeel having more durability because he has tanked better attacks and FDK Natsu as having stronger attacks. Keep in mind that DF was a temporary power-up for Gajeel and was somewhat of an exhaustive effort, whereas using a single FDK spell leaves Natsu still in relatively good shape.

As for the shadows goes. Natsu already showed that he knew how to deal with shadows fighting future Rogue, in which shadow was Rogue's primary element. I don't see ISD bringing Gajeel to Natsu's level.

In regards to DF Gajeel Vs Natsu, I think there should really be little doubt as to whether DF Gajeel is far superior in raw power. There is absolutely no way current Natsu can do to Bradman what DF Gajeel did. With that said, DF for Gajeel was very temporary, and I mean very. So there is that to consider.

As for Base/ISD Gajeel its fairly hard to say, I think he's at least low end Spriggan level. Maybe he can push his way into average but I'd really like to see some feats from ISD.

Lessio was holding back on Natsu since his main priority was getting Fairy Heart, so in respect of their respective Spriggan 12 fights, Gajeel has a better showing than Natsu...
Natsu ws holding back because he did not want to destroy the guild. FDKM, FDK moves and even his flashy base moves (like his roar) were out of the question. Whereas Jacbo really had no reason to hold back, if anything, wanting FH would drive him to try and finish off Natsu (the one obstacle in his way) as quickly as possible. He had plenty of hostages at that point anyways. Natsu was holding back a lot more then Jacob was.

Not really, think about it, he specifically told Mavis that he was going to torture Lucy (before Natsu came) until she coughed out the location of FH, so it was obvious he was not aiming to kill, heck he had Natsu powerless under him several times and he didn't opt to do anything other than fool around.
He was using them as leverage on Mavis to get her to reveal the location of Fairy Heart. She wasn't talking despite him beating her up, so Jacob was going to hurt the guild members his spell missed until she talked.
Also Natsu holding back is Base Natsu so you kinda repeated what I said:p
How he was fighting in the Guild, basic Fire Dragon Slaying techniques, that's base Natsu, he's on the same level as Gajeel

Well, it wasn't exactly needed for DF Gajeel to use a spell. Since his DF is stated to counter curse power, he only needed a single punch to defeat Bradman.

When I'm talking about Base Natsu I'm excluding FDKM but including LFDM. None of Current Base Natsu's attack has ever impressed me more than Gajeel's Iron Shadow Dragon Roar tbh.

*searching for a good excuse*

No okay, you're right. But the reason why I rank DF Wendy above DF Natsu (I still do) is because Wendy becomes a hax princess once she uses DF. DF Wendy will basically blitz DF Natsu all the way and defeat him with some nukes. But yeah that's just my uncommon opinion.

I agree, more feats doesn't mean superior. I'm really looking forward to more feats from Gajeel (though with him defeating a Spriggan i doubt wel'l see a lot more from him).
I don't understand what you mean about Gajeel being super effective.
Gajeel activated DF by absorbing magical barrier particles so his physical attacks were super effective against Bradman's curse power.

Natsu didn't defeat Rogue in his Shadow Form, while Shadow Rogue is obviously more powerful than Base Rogue. As long as Natsu won't have a spell that can affect a shadow, Shadow Rogue should be superior.

Rogue may have the power to turn into a shadow but he still needs to come out of it in order to attack, in which case Natsu punches him in the face and he's down.

And I don't think Gajeel has the ability to turn into a shadow. Yea he could do it when he was fighting Shadow Rogue but that was only because he had just consumed shadows. It's kinda like how back on Tenrou, Natsu was able to use pure lightning attacks against Hades even though now he can't anymore. The strength of a character after just consuming a different element should be a lot stronger than the mode that comes out of it.

Base Natsu has attacks that can melt the GMG stadium, or that large roar he used against Bluenote, or even the types of punches he was using against the Alvarez Troops. Natsu didn't use any of those attacks because he didn't want to damage the guild. Even within base mode, there's difference between Natsu's attacks. Now I don't think Natsu could have defeated Jacob as easily as he did without FDK mode, but I do think he had to hold back a lot of his large power-punches because he was in the guild.

The way i see it is the only people who might be able to beat one of the Spriggan 12(not including August or Irene) 1 vs 1 right now is FDKM(no Igneel power) Natsu,Laxus and maybe Jellal. It would be largely matchup based and would be a rough fight with any of them. DF Gajeel may very well be on that level as well, however had he not absorbed that specific substance he still could not have hit Bradman. I mean i feel like that is close to the equivalent of TO Sherria, where the God Slayer advantage was clearly why she beat Dimaria. The only Spriggan 12 member that i see as being "weaker" than the others is Neinhart. Simply because while his ability is insane in a support role, it's not guaranteed to work on everyone, plus his durability is easily the worst of any spriggan so far due to him being largely a summoner type fighter. I imagine his magic power is still on par with the others though considering the range with which he could use his Historia magic. I honestly felt like Jacob was right on par with the others. I mean he had not one but two overpowered abilities. Transport would just straight up end a fight with almost anyone. Stealth makes him completely invisible, free to attack in any way he wants. Had Lucy not countered both directly her and Natsu are in bad shape. Perhaps if Natsu had used FDKM earlier he could have still beaten him, it's not as if Jacob disappeared, so an aoe attack could still have hit him. My main point is there is really only two-three fighters we have seen on Ishgars side that could beat a member of the Spriggan 12 1 vs 1 without some power up that counters them perfectly.

I'd consider what he did to Natsu more CIS then him not trying. He genuinely thought that looking at a naked Lucy would be torture, he is simply an idiot. Like I said before, he had hostages already, there was no point of keeping Natsu (his only challenge).

He was using them as leverage on Mavis to get her to reveal the location of Fairy Heart. She wasn't talking despite him beating her up, so Jacob was going to hurt the guild members his spell missed until she talked.
He wanted to use Lucy as leverage at first, then Natsu came and he started fighting seriously. Once he realized it wasn't going anywhere he decided to opt to using the hostages he already had and that ended up backfiring.

Not quite, base Natsu also entails attacks like his Roar and Iron Fist (those are still basic moves, even if they are huge). Although I do agree that Base/ISD Gajeel should be around the same level as base Natsu (as he was against Bluenote ie no restrictions), probably even a little stronger.
