Yes, just like what happened with Gildarts vs Ice Trail dark guild... oh wait it didn't. It's the job of the author to display power they want while keeping it entertaining, normally they give a situation where it is clear that a character can't display their full strength such as Natsu vs Jacob in the guild. So what you're saying is that aged Gildarts with missing limbs can reproduce the feats of Prime Gildarts but he didn't because it would be boring? We can't assume that Tenrou Gildarts can reproduce his Ice Trail feats if the evidence is stacked against that notion. If Gildarts had his Ice Trail speed and wanted to make the fight last for entertainment, he could've given a plot device to nerf Gildarts during the fight but he didn't, that's because Ice Trail Gildarts >> Tenrou Gildarts.
Dude, did you not read my last post?

http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/fairytail/images/d/d9/Lapointe_is_hit_by_Gildarts'_attack.gif/revision/latest?cb=20140615221949 Thats Gildarts speed after ice trail. Everything you said above is subjective and I don't care.

There were many plot devices, his magic being drained, Natsu and Lucy next their fight, Hiro making him sit on ass when he could've been taking on Hades.

Is it really that hard to understand that the anime isn't canon or something?

His magic wasn't being drained for the part where he was evenly fighting with Bluenote, you're acting like he was getting drained for the whole fight. What are you talking about with the plot devices? I'm saying that the author could've given a reason for Gildarts to not be fighting at his full strength to make it clear that he is fighting below is capabilities, but he didn't because Gildarts was fighting at his full strength.
Are you going to address any other points or just say that everything that doesn't fit your agenda is subjective so it doesn't matter

If person steps on another person it might hurt. If you a person steps on a giant, it does not. If a giant steps on a person the person is mashed potatoes. Which one is tougher? Or are you gonna go with the idea that ants are the strongest for their size, because the fact is a bigger wall is harder to break than a smaller one. We are not pretending that Makarov is big. He is big and that needs to be factored in. Fact is the same attack will be less severe on a giant. A life threatening cut to a person, might be a paper cut to a giant. Therefore the giant is tougher, more durable. Sure if the giant gets cut by a fifty foot ax he will split, but with the same attack it would slice many people, not just one.
These analogies redundant. My argument is that if a human sized character is more durable then titan Makarov then his size doesn't give him any bonus in the durability department. The bonus he gains is that while the human sized character has to take the brunt of an attack like Jupiter with their body, he gets the luxury of taking the brunt of the attack with his arm. That doesn't make him more durable. If the character is more sturdy then him, then they will be damaged less then his arm will be, thus having more durability. I think I have stressed my point enough, I've said all that needs to be said on the part of my argument as thoroughly as I could say it.

Yes you did say all you could. So if a car rammed into a human would he take it as well as a giant? Is that not durable? Is a a branch as easy to break as a tree? Nope. Therefore you are wrong. Plain and simple. Whether you admit it or not these are the facts. You aren't perfect. No one is. You got a sharp memory, but that doesn't mean your arguments are always right. You've said enough. Face the facts. A punch on a human is nothing to a giant. That makes the giant TOUGHER, MORE DURABLE. A thin glass breaks easier than a thick one. Sure if it was a chainsaw they both would get cut, but one is thicker and the amount of cuts it takes to kill a person does little to a giant. My analogies make real sense so don't downplay them because they are solid reasoning.

I'm so harsh. I cleaned it up. Sorry about that.

I can definitely see Monty's point though. What he's trying to say is that because Makarov was so big, he was able to block Jupiter with his arm rather than having his entire body get hit. He was able to take it not because he gained durability or anything, but because he was able to confine the damage caused by Jupiter to only his arm and therefore overall he didn't take as much damage. It has more to do with the AOE of Jupiter than its power.

(unless of course I misunderstood Montys argument, in which case ignore this lmao)

Agreed, but that's the point of being big. Everything else is smaller and less effective. He is bigger and tougher. A drop of water can drown an ant. A lot of water is a tsunami. To a giant, a dangerous tsunami is like the water reaching the beach on a regular day. That's why the giant is numb to these things. Yeah Gajeel is metal so a car hitting him or something really hard would not damage him as bad, but depending on the power he might get a small bruise or something like that. On a giant the same thing might happen. If you are talking about sharp and pointy objects then yeah Gajeel tanks that with scratches at most. With Makarov a cut from the same swing with the same weapon will work, but not that much damage due to his size. Drop a boulder on them of the same size, and the Giant will handle that very well. That's just a small stone to him. An arm as a shield that blocks Jupiter makes him tough even with the damage. If he got blown to bits or knocked out then yeah he isn't durable. He can't take much damage, but he did. Not saying Makarov is higher than Gajeel or other strong mages. Just that taking the Jupiter shot is a show of durability. Erza used her defense armor and shield yet she was busted up pretty bad. At the time, before only, she couldn't compare to Makarov.

So if a car rammed into a human would he take it as well as a giant?
This shows me that you simply don't understand what I am saying. You are referring back to your already addressed analogies. Yes, if a car rammed into a human who was more durable then the giant it wouldn't do as much damage. Although provided the car is strong enough to do actual damage, it would take longer to take down the giant because only his leg is getting hit whereas the humans entire body is getting hit, thus he takes more damage over time (ie it relates to endurance not durability).

Is a a branch as easy to break as a tree? Nope.
Yes, if a branch was more durable then said tree then it would be harder to break/cut, although it wouldn't be as time consuming if you did have the means to actually cut it since the branch is thinner.

How about I give you an actually relevant and accurate comparison now?

Compare a metre thick wall of iron to a kilometre thick wall of tree bark. Guess which one is more durable despite having a far inferior area? The Iron. Guess which one would take longer to take out provided you have the means to even penetrate the iron? The tree bark solely on the basis of its far superior area, that doesn't make it more durable. I don't get why you don't understand that.

What makes it difficult is that I can't pinpoint your exact flaw because I don't know what you are thinking. Either you believe that Makarov being a giant automatically gives him greater durability over someone smaller because he has more area to him, or you simply don't understand the difference between endurance and durability. Both make for highly erroneous arguments.

I'll cap this post off with this. If Natsu fired off his basic roar (which is large enough to engulf Makarov fully thus both contestants are getting hit with an equal amount of energy relative to their size) at both Makarov and Laxus, Laxus would take less damage from it, do you know why? Because he is more durable. If Jupiter was continuously fired off at Makarov and Laxus (take away Makarovs Titan threshold out of the equation), do you know which one would go down first? Laxus, do you know why? Because he is on the receiving end of it with his full body whereas Makarov can take it with his hands. Do you understand what that means? Not that Makarov has more durability, but that Makarov has more endurance.

I didn't see your post before you edited it, but I understand that you have to be aggressive in arguments to make your points hit harder so as long as you aren't resorting to Ad Hominems I couldn't care less that you are being aggressive. I do the same when I need to do it.

I'm lost here, why are people comparing glass being cut with a chainsaw?

Ranks
1.Mavis
2. Acnologia
3 Zeref
4. Dimaria
5. Gildarts
6. God Serena/August/Irene
7. Laxus
8. Jellal
9. Natsu
10. Gray

"Why Mavis rank 1?"
She has Fairy Heart aka unlimited magic.

"Dimaria above August?"
Her ability to stop time allows her to take out a threat before they have a opportunity to be one

"Gildarts is featless and got rekt by Bluenotestinger"
Incorrect, his ability to negate all forms of magic combined with his immense strength and speed would blitz through the Spriggan.

"God Serena is fodder trash"
He can literally negate and eat Irenes and August spells. And August got stabbed with a knife, anyone else who got sliced wasn't pierce all the way through. And don't give me the excuse that he knows ALL THE MAGIC because he clearly doesn't know how to heal himself.

Laxus nearly melted Ajeel with a single attack, plot paired him with Walh, the guy immune to magic and he was sick.

By the way, crunchyroll translations are made for people who can't read properly. Thats the reason why all the other manga sites say he knows all forms of elemental and ancient magics.

Crunchyroll translations are the OFFICIAL TRANSLATIONS. You can make all the excuses you want but the fact remains that Crunchyroll has the most accurate translations and that's why those are the translations that end up in the physical printed manga.

I'll respond to the other points later when I have time, but from a quick glance it seems like you've completely ignored every single counter argument I've given you in the past. Sigh...

Sure. That's why they have the highest quality pictures (clearer than some of the raw scans floating around online), and is considered by people who speak Japanese to have the most accurate translations. That's why Kodansha Ltd licenses the website and uses their scans when printing out paper-back copies to sell to english-speaking costumers. It's because they are made for people who can't read properly. Also, only mangapanda says that he knows "all elemental magics, even the ancient ones". Mangastream says he's "mastered magics from all times and places".

Guess what? There is no if here. You talk about proportions and forget that the giant is a giant. For an attack to to cause the same effect to a giant it would have to be stronger, more area, more magic required to make that happen. Therefore it takes more power to mess the giant up he is tougher. Same way it takes more power to break through someone with good armor or magic that makes them durable. In the end it takes more to break those more durable including Gajeel. No doubt metal is stronger than wood. Thank you for stating the obvious. So other than Gajeel, is there anyone made of anything other than flesh and bone that are durable? That depends on strength level. When mages get stronger their durability usually improves also.

If this if that. No ifs. Those "ifs" you said would require more strength to actually work. Yes if a blast like Jupitor was as large to a giant as the one on regular size humans, he would be fucked up. For a blast to be that effective it would have to be stronger. Therefore with the same attacks dished out the giant won't feel much while the human takes more damage. Size is a factor whether you like it or not. This isn't a pound for pound durability test. It's either they can take punishment with little damage or they can't. Ikutsunagi is big, therefore it takes more power to fuck him up. Meaning he is more durable.

Even rocks break when you hit them enough. And no a twig is weaker than a full sized tree. Everything breaks, but how much longer they last than others is what makes them durable. Gajeel is not invincible either. He takes damage and wears down like anything you keep striking. A giant is the same because it takes more to bring him down. That is durability. Being a giant has its benefits.

Isn't this the second time you are capping this off? The first time you were hinting the same thing with "I've said enough." Walk away. You know damn well how twigs don't have the same durability as a tree made of the same thing. These mages are flesh and bone. The bigger one is harder to break. You've already made a fool of yourself not willing to admit it. Instead you are willing to make no sense and back it up. Keep dragging this on and I'll make it hurt more. Don't give me this "erroneous" bs. I'll clear it up if you are stubborn enough to keep going. Just as stubborn as several who won't admit anything. :p

Did I say glass being cut by a chainsaw? I said thin glass is less durable than thick glass. In the next sentence I mentioned a chainsaw being able to damage people and how it would damage both a giant and human. The same amount of damage done to a person is far less to a giant. One foot deep cut on a human would have them at death's door. The same cut is just a regular cut to a giant.

"Over time" is correct. The same goes for anyone else who are strong or made of something harder than flesh and bone. With more attacks they will all break eventually. Thanks for clearing that up. Why, what does durable mean to you? Someone who has supreme strength and can't be injured no matter what? Everyone eventually gives even those you claim to be durable. Makarov is near the bottom of my list for durability. Having strength makes mages more durable to strong attacks. And I don't see Makarov as strong as Laxus or Natsu. But deserves credit for taking a Jupitor shot. That is still a feat of durability.

Well that only magics we've seen in this entire series, elemental and ancient magics. August obviously doesn't know dragon slayer magic or curse magic or Lucy's spirit magic. So Mangapanda is accurate in terms of translations and I doubt anyone cares about the quality of manga drawing, this isn't the anime bud. Off topic...

August is weak, and panels show concrete evidence. He got sliced with a knife that most people in the Fairy Tail universe would tank. Lucy's Cow star dress allows to level landscapes, that attack itself is stronger than a knife. Its depressing because Brandish didn't have any speed boost to make the impact to the blow more powerful. It simply just slid right through him like a hot knife and butter. Just think of August like The Flash/Barry Allen, he has superpowers but he can still die to a bullet to the head, etc.

The manga has literally been drilling in the COMPLETE AND UTTER OPPOSITE of you what just said in the bold. August being weak is a joke, a bad one at that.

August was stated to powerful because knows a lot of magic, nothing about durability. That was showcased when Brandish dropped the "strongest mage" of the 12. Haha, you're a joke if you can't ignore COLD HARD FACTS!

August was stated to be the strongest because he knows a lot a magic and as MONSTEROUS MAGIC POWER. Magic power correlates to physical attributes, which include durability. Or is RUFUS Spirggan 12 tier because of all the magic he knows? Heck, wonder why he didn't smack down Bradman in the north (sarcasm). As for Brandish 'dropping' August let me point out the obvious flaws in this:

1.) August was taking off guard by Brandish. EVERYONE AND I MEAN EVERYONE is more susceptible to damage when hit with something off guard.

2.) August was not dropped, not in the slightest. August got stabbed through the chest by a knife as big as his chest and fell to one knee with a bit off blood dripping down his mouth, that's it. August literally got back up like nothing happened and nuked Natsu.

Saying August has bad durability because he got stabbed is just....

Inb4 you mention Brandish also getting knocked out when that was a gag scene.

You are just not understanding what I am saying. Makarov endured the damage perfectly fine yes (since it only hit his hand), however Jupiter still damaged him extensively, it bypassed his durability. He tanked nothing. Him getting very injured on his arm by Jupiter and continuing battle says very little about both his durability and his endurance. I suppose Jupiter not going right through his arm does say something about his durability, but Laxus and Gajeel should be on the same boat, easily.

Charla did tank the attack, she was right next to Chelia. Yes the attack was big but the fact that someone weak survived it without significant damage makes that redundant. Based on feats the attack wasn't that much more powerful then Bradmans exploding helix, if at all, and that did absolutely nothing to Gajeel. Base Wendy is incredibly fragile (almost as fragile as Charla) and DF wouldn't do a whole lot for her in that department (it accentuates her speed and magic more then anything else).
Someone still takes damage even if they tank something. Laxus nor Gajeel have tanked Jupiter or anything as powerful as Jupiter last time I checked.

I think it should be noted that August was injured in his Gandalf form. In his combat-mode like he is now he could have much greater durability. I'd wait until he fights before I call him weak. The manga goes out of it's way to hype August, and if he's weak it would be Bacchus-like treatment.

Gajeel took Bradman whole assault and Laxus took pretty much everything Wahl had bar the etheroin canon, both of those are >>>>>>>>Jupiter.

Inb4 you mention Brandish also getting knocked out when that was a gag scene.[/QUOTE
Are you implying that knife is more powerful than any other attack seen in the series?

Natsu kick on Gildarts while drinking beer didn't do anything to him, why? Because Gildarts has a high durability. He got back up after having a blade through chest which showcased durability.

If Lucy tried to stab Natsu while sleeping it wouldn't do anything because his body is hard enough to the point the blade for break.

You cannot be fucking serious. Etherion was stated to be a COUNTRY LEVEL cannon. Jupiter is like town level.
