This argument was shitted on the second the Kagura vs Minerva vs Erza comparison was brought into this. Wodden needs a new argument in order to downplay August.
Honestly August would destroy Natsu almost instantly. If he has a water/ice nuke similar to the fire one he used before then Natsu is going to get destroyed.

Minerva>> Sting and Rouge meaning that her blast is >>Sting's roar. Even then destroying two roofs>Swordstab by your logic, so even using your logic you're still wrong LMAO.
Oh lemon pie, you can repeat yourself all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that August is beyond powerful enough to wreck almost everyone but Irene and possibly Jellal and Gildarts. It doesn't matter if a knife can go through him, it matters how he reacts after that, and August has shown no signs that he was stabbed. One might even assume he never even got hurt in this war, with the scale of damage he's done.
But please, do provide proof, sweetie pie. By all means, prove me wrong.
Your initial qualm was that I labeled darkness an emotional power. I didn't really think we were isolated to any one panel.
But if we do talk about that particular moment (up until Brandish arrives), Invel is more or less stating Gray's condition. He now realises Gray has DeS magic, knows it's side-effects, and concludes somehow that Gray's heart is nearly consumed by darkness. Invel goes on to say that darkness is the seeds of black magic and Zeref is proof of that, darkness is neither good or evil, and that darkness exists in the hearts of all. DeS magic amplifies darkness, given it makes someone insane and eats at their soul. You don't need to be a Devil Slayer to have a dark heart, apparently.
If DeS magic doesn't influence emotions, then I don't know what to think of Gray's current behaviour. As for the slayer comment I agree, a devil slayer should become more like a demon when they demonise. Etherious have 1) curse power which is sourced by negative emotions, and 2) are programmed to hunt Zeref. I think point (2) has a relationship to devil slayers, in that they have an instinct to hunt devils... and this effects their psyche (like going insane).
Well, in your very first post, you were talking about how Invel noticed Gray's darkness in Chapter 498. My point is that Invel already took note of Gray's darkness before he met Juvia. He didn't intend to create any emotional situation until Juvia was free from the ice and even then it wasn't until Brandish took Natsu, Lucy, and Happy away.
Sure darkness is in the hearts of all. But releasing it will require something like Devil Slaying Magic. Pure anger won't work in this situation or half of the characters we've seen so far will be affected by the "darkness".
We obviously aren't going to agree, so I'll let you have the last word. But if you make the claim that DeS affects emotions, then that would go for all types of magic. In other words, there is no point in bringing this topic up as every fight with result in some sort of emotional power or PoF.
It's a power up I don't disagree. I'm not really fussed about how it's classified as that's a preference. If you don't like PoF being grouped with darkness because you don't like PoF as a power in FT, then it's fine to make another category for darkness. I just put them both under the umbrella of emotional power. If someone calls darkness = PoF with negative emotions, I'm fine with that too.
But not everything in the series is either darkness or PoF though. Well, from what we know about darkness... Gray's had to "spill out". It was seemingly untapped in ch 498, but released at the end of ch 499.
The only other people I speculate to maybe have used darkness are...
- Zeref (think this is 100% true)
- Precht (his Devil's Heart)... could've been a darkness power source. He was following the path of Zeref supposedly.
- Zero... an inexplicable power up that was an alternate personality which Brain sealed.
- Spriggan 12 (not confident).
Yeah, you are correct in saying I dislike Nakama power and PoF. Don't get me wrong, one thing I particularly like about Fairy Tail is its theme and good morals. But when it comes to skewing power rankings through plot, then that is when I am not a fan of it.
Here is how I see it...
Darkness = A legitimate power-up (like E.N.D)
Emotions like Anger = Results in a character going all out or at least taking the fight seriously.
PoF = Random power-up given for plot convenience.
Like I said, feel free to disagree and have the last say in this matter, but I see the first two being reasonable. The third one has a negative connotation to it especially in a series like this one.

so basically, you have no counter or proof for your bullshit because that would require fan fiction or ignoring manga. Just take the L and move along, August wasn't hyped for no reason, and he's still wrecking asses despite being stabbed.
It depends on the speed and strength. Brandish had zero momentum to increase the speed of the blade and it still went through. That tells us his durability isn't great nor is his reactions. He saw Brandish pull out the blade, not only that but she had a sinister face on her.
August has great spells but lacks in durability and reactions. His fighting skills must be the same since his reactions are bad.
That isn't what I said... I just said that nukes aren't everything. I said it depends. They can be strong. Nukes often have bulk AoE, but lack in potency. Only the truly strong nukes have potency. I could list several examples of this.
Similarly weapons and CQC attacks have low AoE, but generally high potency. So many finishing moves in FT come from low AoE attacks - sword slashes, punches, weapons etc. There are many examples of this.
This doesn't prove that swords > nukes - to be clear.

When was the last time we've seen a large attack do no damage.
You can't count Sema because he wasn't trying to kill them and Hiro doesn't kill off characters.
Mard Geers attack did nothing to Natsu because Gray tanked the attack. You can use the excuse that he that he isn't going to kill off characters in a huge explosions. Look what happened to Ajeel.
Stop using such a dumbass logic to make August look bad. He got stabbed, but he proceeded to wreck shit. Show me one instance where he showed any signs of damage from the stab, when Kagura during the tournament was finished by Minerva's stab. Is there proof that the fist would obliterate August's body, or that it'd stop him when a stab didn't stop him from making everyone his bitch?
For the fourth goddamn time, learn to use common sense.
Minerva's attack was not that strong, it only destroyed that concrete house which was 1 story tall. It did not tunnel the earth like Sting and Rouges attacks did. All that means is her attack is weak which is why Erza and Kagura didn't get damaged.
Erza vs 100 monsters showed her cutting through monsters made of steal. They were like tofu to Erza.
August on the other hand was sliced by a regular knife until proven otherwise.
August' fire pillar is not even close to being as wide as a mountain. It was taller but the energy died out the time it reached the clouds.
Gildarts will crush August.

You're completely missing the point. However weak you may think Minerva's attack was, you yourself admitted that Minerva's attack destroyed a concrete house, which is undeniably more damage than a regular blade attack would do. And you yourself admitted that Kagura didn't get damaged by it. So how did Kagura end up getting pierced by Minerva's blade later?

Invel did create a situation - killing Juvia = sin = darkness awakened/spilling out. Essentially the guild and/or sorrow of killing a comrade will bring out darkness in Invel's opinion. It wasn't as simple as Invel killing Juvia, it had to be Gray killing Juvia... for whatever reason Idk. But emotions play the most vital role here.

Darkness exists in all hearts. If Gray can awaken it through the emotions that came from Juvia's suicide, then emotions play a part. Darkness also takes time it seems... so just getting angry once won't do it. Gray's darkness didn't spill out until ch499... and he'd had DeS magic for a year.
No that is not the case. Just because one magic effects emotions doesn't mean all will. It's possible, but it's never been stated. For DeS magic it's been canonically stated that it drives one insane and eats at the soul. I'd only speculate that DS/GS magic are the only other types that affect someone's behaviour - but as with Gray he had to reach a certain point before his darkness or emotional power could be used.

Well it really depends on how you want to look at it.
I can agree PoF is made for plot so good guys can get that extra bit of power, but this is canon to the FT verse.
But if we're going to call PoF plot convenient, then I'd throw in darkness to, if we're being fair. Hiro basically made darkness to justify Gray getting a power up. It's seemingly driven by negative emotions, and DeS magic was retconned to include side effects like insanity. Bottom line - Gray received a plot convenient power (just like DeS in Tartarus).
I don't have any issue with Gray being given power ups, just like I don't have an issue with Natsu getting them with FDKM or demonic power. It's just my perspective that darkness is an emotional power, and is just as plot convenient as PoF. All of which are legitimate powers in Hiro's story so I don't really complain.

Mira's nuke barely registered any damage against 2 enchanted weapons. DiMaria's nuke made a crater and injured the sky sisters, but it was a laser (concentrated attack) that penetrated right through Carla and Wendy. Point is the power of an attack isn't completely governed by whether it's as big as a mountain, or can crush something really weak like rocks or buildings etc.
What happened to Ajeel? He got cut up by swords, but Jupiter did minor-ish damage to him.

Lightning + Sand = glass and he's made of sand.... Off topic..
That explosion came from her new form, similar to a super sayian thing. Ajeel was made of sand and water was his weakness somehow idk. Erza just has counters.
To melt Sand, Fire has to have heat that surpasses 1760 Degrees Celsius. I can't give you any panels because Fairy Tail isn't a manga that writes these kinds of numbers down. But it's fairly obvious that Natsu's flame has only been getting hotter.

Anywhere between 600 and 1200 Degrees Celsius apparently. I'd have thought Stone took more heat but obviously not. Natsu could counter Ajeels Sandworld to an extent, but Ajeel has more sand than atsu can melt so...
