This talk about Lisanna reminds me of my two crack ships of CanaxSho and LisannaxMest.

Cana when she said that a sexy dark skinned blonde taught her how to capture people in cards in Tartaros. Plus now that it seems Cana isn't as wild a girl as she let's on.... I love the idea of Sho (traveling world) and Cana (who's father travels the world).

As for Mest x Lisanna... It started on Tenrou for me. While most people were distracted by the cute way Laxus pinched Lisanna'a cheeks... I was wondering about why Mashima never explored Lisanna's comments about Mest. She was the first person who didn't recognize Mest.
Her saying he must have joined while she was gone directly went against the memory he implanted in the other ft members of joining fairy tail before being Mystogan's student and before he participated in S class trial the previous years.

Then in Tartaros when Lisanna was naked, Mest was so cute to be the first guy there to offer his jacket. And her blushing at him. Then when she developed this newer look, that makes her look more loli to me... I thought to myself..... "Get that Mest girl!!" (Don't let Mira catch what you two are doing tho)

And if you think of most of the main ships are based on... people who grew up in the guild paired with people that join the guild later.

Natsu, Gray, Erza, Levy, Elfman are all paired with outsiders/who joined later (Lucy, Evergreen, Juvia, Gajeel) or who never joined at all (Jellal). Which strengths that family bond from the group that joined as children. So Cana being shipped with Bacchus or Sho would fit. Same with Lisanna and Mest. For Laxus.... He really could have either of his love interests since he was at the guild his whole life.... Mira and Freed joined when he was older. Wendy joined later so she could have Chelia or a Romeo....

On last note.... Erza has more potential to be the secondary ship for Natsu than Lisanna. Nali has lacked meaningful moments since Lisanna told Lucy to stick close to Natsu.

Cuz if we think of it Natsu has had multiple jail moments since that is his main Lisanna moment after Tenrou.
But....
Erza + Natsu in jail back Eisenwall
Natsu + Wendy in jail during Edolas
Lisanna + Natsu in jail during Tartaros (and was stolen from Rave's Haru and Bellnika naked jail scene)
Lucy + Natsu being imprisoned Avatar, Alvarez.

As main male..... Natsu gets all the ladies + Gajeel and Gray.

I've never understood arguments claiming that Gruvia is forced. In my opinion, they've had the most development out of all the ships in Fairy Tail. You only really need to read one or two analyses on the ship to understand its progression.

Saying that, I agree with quite a few points here about Juvia. Yeah, as much as I love her, she is really flawed. Her character revolves around Gray and if you take Gray out of the series, she would have literally no purpose or role whatsoever which is pretty sad because when she was first introduced, she had a lot of potential. Not to mention, her magic is so awesome. There is so much you could do with water based magic, yet Mashima never developed her powers beyond water nebula and water slicer. Hell, he even stopped using the boiling water and water lock. That's why it was so refreshing to see her new water blood magic.

As well as this, her other friendships were never really explored. What she had with Gajeel is showcased rarely, same with the other members of Fairy Tail. A few moments with Erza like in 413 days, a chapter cover with Lucy...well, at least her friendship with Meredy is given some spotlight. Having said that though, I think some of you (even myself sometimes) forget that she's just a side character and isn't going to get as much development as other characters (cough cough, Team Natsu).

So yeah, there are flaws with Juvia as a character and if people are against Gruvia because they dislike Juvia, okay, that's fair enough.

However, what's irritating is when people say that Gray harbours no romantic feelings for her and everything he does with her is out of pity or because she forces him to be with her. Let me just stop you there.

First thing...Gray isn't the type of character who can just be forced into doing something he doesn't want to do. That was made clear enough when he said to Juvia, "No, thanks...I've got to clearly lay out the things I don't like." We've seen it in other examples too, like in Galuna when he didn't listen to Erza's orders and in Nirvana too when he didn't listen to Erza and Lyon when they wanted Erza's arm chopped off. He can't be forced into anything.

Next, Juvia has never ONCE expected ANYTHING from Gray. EVER. In 416, she was willing to give up loving him because she felt she was unworthy of his love since she indirectly killed Silver. Guys, if Gray wanted to be rid of her, that was the perfect opportunity for him to have her walk out of his life. He didn't though. Instead, he got up, freaking cried into her chest, thanked her and even apologised. There is nothing forced about that. Gray did this by himself. Juvia ain't pullin' no strings here. She never has. EVERY SINGLE GRUVIA MOMENT IS INITIATED BY GRAY. Fact.

Another thing. In 453 when he said he'd give Juvia an answer, you think she was expecting it? She was shocked. This girl has never expected to be loved back by Gray. She just loves him openly and freely, and honestly, Gray needs that unconditional love after his dark past and after pushing so many people away. He looked so happy and hopeful for the future in that chapter and her death crushed him completely. He even said "I would never hurt a comrade...no, I would never hurt you, Juvia." - He implied she's more than a friend and this isn't out of nowhere. He didn't say 'I love you' due to plot convenience, Mashima is saving the answer for afterwards.

LAST THING...when he declares his love for her after all this is over, it won't be out of pity because she "died". He already had an answer for her before all the suicide fiasco. You think he was waiting till after the war to be like "lol Juvia, btw my answer is nah I don't like you like that"? The answer is still going to be the same as before, her "death" didn't change that.

I've noticed that people like to forget some points...
- Gray literally saying Juvia is more than a nakama in chapter 499.
- Gray promising an (positive) answer BEFORE her sacrifice and after the war, meaning his feelings were there with or without her death.
- Gray's past which doesn't allow him to just go lovey dovey with everyone.

Also... The way he treated Ur, the person he considers as his mother figure and one of the most important in his life. Gray was mean to Ur, he was just a spoiled brat obsessed with revenge. He treated her really shitty, when in reality he cared about her a lot but guess what? Some people just realise how precious things are after losing them.

Gray treats Juvia the same way as Ur and I'm sure everyone here noticed how many parallels were drawn between the two starting from the 413 days omake (Ur and Juvia warming up Gray with a scarf). He wasn't honest with her, he pushed her away, he made her WAIT for an answer and so on. Mashima with the parallels in 499 just highlighted that RIGHT NOW Juvia is the most important female in his life, like Ur was. The latter is the past, the former is the future.

To sum it up: Gray just needed a death scare in order to understand that making Juvia wait this long isn't fine, because he could lose her in any moment especially in a war.

Besides, don't forget that MS messed up the translation and in Japanese we read "I'll take YOU more seriously / I'll be more honest with YOU".
With an answer on the table Gray was already serious about her feelings for him.

Lastly, if Gray was really forcing himself to love Juvia then he surely wouldn't have thought about her (with a brand new panel instead of old ones like his FT friends) before casting Iced Shell back in Tartaros.

If you have ever been in love... then you just know you cannot force yourself to love someone. If you do that, you are just unhappy and wow Gray isn't. Instead, he is grateful to have Juvia by his side.

Well, the same thing can be said about anti-Gruvia analyses now can't they? Like my post has stated, I want to explain the reason why I and some others think that they are forced. While all "Gruvia moments" can come from Gray, do all of us know how he truly feels about her? Or that is simply just assumption? Just like you said you've never understood where we were coming from, I can also say that I, too, don't understand why people think they are not forced. Because, even with all the moments you've given as an example. I can also direct you to the moment that I think will make a good example for my thought.

It is true that Gray can't be forced into anything, even love. But you have to remember, besides being a girl who loves him, Juvia is also his friend. And a person like Gray could never want to hurt them. You've given the "I would never hurt my comrade" speech from Gray, so why did you even for a moment, think that Gray would actually walk away from a crying and guilt-suffering Juvia just because she said that she doesn't deserve to love him? How did you even use that as an example for Gray not loving her romantically and think that would be alright to back Gruvia up? Granted, I am no where near being a Gray fan (why am I even positively analysing Gray again? Buddha knows :fail ) I mean seriously, the same Gray who was guilty because he made Lucy cry by lying to her in Avatar and apologized to her, reassured her that she can still believe him would do that? To the girl that loves him? Now you're just degrading Gray's character to push Gruvia up, so how am I supposed to believe that Juvia is needed for his happy future? Need I remind you that Ultear also destroyed Meredy's village, killed her parents and was trying to commit suicide before Meredy stopped her and said that she still loves Ultear no matter what? Can you see the resemblance here? That is one of the reasons why I cannot see this is a romantic act.

And, like I've said before, Gray isn't forced to love Juvia, he is forced to give an answer. Because when a girl has been stalking you, declaring her love for you literally every single day, you just cannot avoid it forever, you have to give some sort of answer, whether it be positive or negative. Do you think Gray would keep avoiding Juvia's feelings for the rest of his life? Of course not, he has to give her an answer to put an end to it. And from that one example you give at the GMG banquet, Gray has said that: "No, thanks...I've got to clearly lay out the things I don't like." to Juvia, so what did Juvia do? Fangirling about how hot he rejected her. If Juvia really was never expecting anything, she would've backed out and respect Gray's answer. But the truth is, Juvia still comes for him. That means she does, and she's trying everyday to make Gray realize it. Heck, if she really never expected him to love her back, she wouldn't even try to attack others for being close to Gray. Of course, no one can help themselves not being jealous, but attacking is more territorial, and someone who just loves the other person won't do that.

And for the "Gray doesn't think of Juvia as just a friend", of course he doesn't. In FT there are a bunch of different members, but everyone's a friend to Gray. Saying Gray doesn't see Juvia as just a friend somewhat can be interpreted at saying Juvia means more than Max, or Warren, or even Nab to Gray considering that he just somehow accepts that Juvia is a part of his life rather than avoiding her. Can you see why I can't take this pairing seriously with all the things I've said? And even then Mashima pulled a fake death on Juvia, so I even have more reason to not like his answer after the war. She just died for him, she just said that she was happy to be a part of him whether it's just blood, so how the heck is he gonna tell her "No"? Gray can't do that, the answer will be a "Yes" but that doesn't hide the fact that her "death" does leave an impact on this answer.

Whew, that got long, but I do hope that this is the end of the Gruvia debate, if everyone thinks so differently from the other, we'll never reach the solution that can please both parties. So, in short, Gruvia, some like it, some don't (me for example), we now know about it, we now let it slide. Cool?:)

You say that Gray is forced to give an answer but then you also say he's not forced to love Juvia. Therefore, his answer could just have easily been a no if that's how he truly felt. However, the answer did look to be positive, even just from his expression and hers. He wouldn't make her wait for a no.

In fact, he actually could have said no if he wanted to, and because of Tartaros, Juvia would not have pursued him like you say she did in the GMG arc, because she already feels undeserving of his love because of what happened with Silver. There really isn't ANYTHING holding him back from saying no.

Also, as @thatsvicchan mentioned, Juvia was the last person he remembered in Tartaros during his fight with Silver and he remembered her for the loving person she is. Plus, Mashima purposely set up parallels between Ur, who was the most important woman in Gray's life, with Juvia. That wasn't an accident.

I'm not going to say much more because really, I shouldn't be writing Gruvia essays, I should be writing assignment essays xD But last thing, I'm not degrading Gray's character in the slightest. I have a different interpretation of his actions and words, that's all. I don't think it's fair for you to say I'm degrading him on the basis of my opinion being different to yours. Other than that, sure, let's wrap it up :amuse

I will just say that Juvia made many nice things for gray in his life. Those are enough reasons for Gray to love her back. He can't find any faithful girl in his whole life like her.

I agree with Gruvia being forced early on, as Juvia was really pressed for Gray because he stopped her endless rain. But to me it's more bearable and likable now since he acknowledged her feelings and is more responsive to her now. So it's cooly too me better now then in the early arcs. Natsu and Lucy just have alot of fanservice moments right now but Lucy is starting to show her caring side towards Natsu to the point it can be considered love in a small sense, less and less platonic. If any ship regressed I would say Jerza; not because of anything they've done to set them back, just off the strength the screentime they get is so rare because Jellal is always ducked off.
Juvia-Gray was never forced early on, seemed more like a joke than anything. But Lucy showing her caring side has always been there since the first or second arc, at least. Thing is, Natsu's in dire situation, so obviously Lucy and anyone else will be showing concern more than once. I think Natsu's been knocked out at least thrice this arc? Brandish saved him, made his tumor bigger, and Natsu expended too much against Gray.

Saying Gray is being forced to be with Juvia is the most ridiculous thing ever. Hiro Mashima made him and is the one writing his character. By saying Gray is being forced to love Juvia or do something with her in the series, you are essentially saying you know Gray better than the author does, which isn't true. The strongest/biggest/most meaningful "Gruvia moments" have been initiated by Gray, and it's Hiro Mashima, the author, that is showing us his growing romantic relationship with Juvia. This is not real life and Gray does not exist, thus he cannot be "forced" into anything by his own creator. You do not know Hiro's characters better than he does. He created Gray and Juvia to compliment each other, purposely. It's already been established Gray sees Juvia as more than a 'nakama'. His entire motivation and drive from chapter 499-507 was her.

People are quick to say crap about Juvia, yet haven't even realized it's been over year, going on two, since the war arc started and she's remained serious the entire time. I agree that she's not meant to be a fighter, Juvia was always there to ease tension and for comic relief. I wish the fact that Juvia is meant to represent love wouldn't go over your heads. That's Hiro's message.

And, like I've said before, Gray isn't forced to love Juvia, he is forced to give an answer. Because when a girl has been stalking you, declaring her love for you literally every single day, you just cannot avoid it forever, you have to give some sort of answer, whether it be positive or negative.
Wrong. Gray owes her nothing. In reality, Juvia doesn't expect anything from Gray (she was surprised and nervous when he was practically flirting with her in the "I'll give you my answer" scene) and was willing to give up on him in Tartarus finale, but he didn't let her. Moreover, Gray isn't making Juvia wait for a "no". Read what I said above, there's no "forcing" a made up character to do anything.

Because that wasn't Gray's real answer and Juvia saw through him. It was a red herring, a troll. No one took it seriously because it wasn't meant to be. Even Gray didn't follow through. Cana and Mirajane comment that nothing has changed between the two after that scene. The stalking comments are getting old, yawn.

And for the "Gray doesn't think of Juvia as just a friend", of course he doesn't. In FT there are a bunch of different members, but everyone's a friend to Gray. Saying Gray doesn't see Juvia as just a friend somewhat can be interpreted at saying Juvia means more than Max, or Warren, or even Nab to Gray considering that he just somehow accepts that Juvia is a part of his life rather than avoiding her
Hah, wow. You are really grasping at straws here. Comparing Juvia to Max, Warren, and Nab? Laughable, LOL. Gray's romantic feelings were actually confirmed via Japanese text in chapter 499. Gray ain't just gonna sit there and let Juvia walk all over him. He genuinely wants to be with her.

She just died for him, she just said that she was happy to be a part of him whether it's just blood, so how the heck is he gonna tell her "No"? Gray can't do that, the answer will be a "Yes" but that doesn't hide the fact that her "death" does leave an impact on this answer.
No, it doesn't. Because Gray's feelings for Juvia were present before she "died" for him. Before chapter 499 and even during chapter 499, when their actions were mirrored because they share the same feelings. Gray has attempted to kill himself twice for Juvia. You have some nerve belittling her importance to him, and his answer will be the same one he planned to give her. Hiro Mashima added some drama and build up along the way, and that's a good thing. Gray doesn't need to scream out his undying love for Juvia for us to get the hint. Actions speak louder than words, and what they went through in this arc together speaks more than endless pages of love confessions.

Really, at this point if you are still denying Gray and Juvia's romantic bond or downplaying it because you don't like it then jokes on you. Keep coming up with excuses, they are very entertaining. Especially because a normal reader could see GrayxJuvia from a mile away, years ago.

(͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) GRUVIA ia still meh for me even if you write 5 essays. Their relationship doesn't appeal to me PERIOD. It's so basic & forced for me.

You don't have to like it. NaLu is the epitome of boring for me as well, but I am not going around saying it's forced because I am not the author and neither are you. This is not real life and these characters do not exist, thus cannot be "forced" into anything by their own creator. :)

I think at the end of the day, ships appeal differently to most people. I don't really like some of the ships myself but it's not like I think others are wrong to like them. It just depends on the person. As for Gruvia, I just want don't want Juvia's entire character to revolve around her relationship to Gray just like some of the previous people have said. I want her to interact more with other characters and not constantly be thinking about how she's not next to Gray or something. I don't see anything wrong in the relationship itself though, I just wish Juvia wouldn't be as obsessive over it.

I do not see why so much problem with the affairs of the couples.

I like all couples and I do not really see why some people seem to see it wrong to use the situation of couples in a Shounen, I feel that it humanizes the characters.

I'm a big Fan of NaLu, but I do not hate Lissana, she likes me, but hey, I never saw her as something for Natsu, more, I think she is more affected to see Natsu and Lucy together than apart .

The NaLu feel that it only needs a push, if it is slow it is because they are both confused in the matter of love, just as I believe that in this saga has been laid the base to leave the rank of "But that Friends, less than lovers" I think that they will soon be already a couple, but it will depend on how you know the current situation in the manga.

At the end this is a matter of tastes, really, but there is nothing wrong in talking about ships peacefully. What you don't have to do is making your own opinion a manga canon fact and I think someone did it here. lol

I do not like Gajevy at all but if I have to say something I like to keep it between me and my friends, no need to bash it and say "meh!!!!" everywhere and a million of times.

:)

World is entertaining because people have different minds after all!

Yes you are allowed to like/dislike certain ships and have your own opinion. Likewise, people are allowed to call you out when you have facts wrong.

Being "meh" about a ship/simply not liking it, compared to an inaccurate (proven by the manga) statement about said ship are totally different things. Be prepared to back up your claim if you put something out there. That's all.

I want to explain the reason why I and some others think that they are forced.
I think will make a good example for my thought.
I cannot see this is a romantic act.
Can you see why I can't take this pairing seriously with all the things I've said?

But alright, I am delusional and in denial, don't know about manga facts, Nalu is boring and Gruvia is the greatest thing that has ever happened to FT. I'll remember that from now on :hee Sorry for saying my thoughts (better bold it or people will be mistaken that I'm stating my opinion as facts lol) and degrading the most beautiful ship of all time. I am very guilty of that action of mine. I wish this debate would stop forever and no one would bring it up again, I'll keep myself in zone and not replying anymore because it would be pathetic and pointless for the other side that is :teehee
.....(but seriously though, why is it that everytime me and the other side of the argument agree to end things in peace, a third butt would always find a way to stir things up again :XD bet third butt would actually be the kind of person who just casually having dinner then jumps into people's argument 'cause apparently they don't own the restaurant :teehee )

If you have ever been in love... then you just know you cannot force yourself to love someone. If you do that, you are just unhappy and wow Gray isn't. Instead, he is grateful to have Juvia by his side.
This is true, and I think this is something that I have a big problem with in regards to SasuSaku in Naruto.
You can look at GruVia as SasuSaku in a way, with Gray being Sasuke and Juvia being the girl who pines after him a.k.a Sakura.
You don't deserve someone just because you waited and waited and, like Sasuke, you don't need to oblige because the other person loved you since day one and you have to do it otherwise you are a douchebag. What? Why? You are never responsible for what other people feels.
^I think this is something that Mashima has done right with GruVia.
Juvia has never asked Gray to return her feelings. She's content with loving him no matter who he picks in the end, her love is selfless in every meaning of the word, and her jealousy is played out comically. She never really harbors any negative feelings to any girls who show romantic interest in Gray, or interest of any sort for that matter, as shown with her healthy relationship.
This entire notion that the only reason Gray is responding to Juvia right now is because she was persistent and basically cornered him into liking him is kinda ridiculous honestly, it downplays his character massively and quite frankly its insulting.
He just doesn't allow himself to get near people since everyone he's loved left him.
What's so hard to grasp about that?

Yeah saying 'meh' everywhere just reeks of obvious baiting.
I find such habits distasteful

This is such a good comment!

Although we shouldn't mix reality with manga (it's all fictional in the end) I want to put this here... how many times we kinda blame ourselves for loving someone who ignores or is a scumbag to us? Why we do that? Why we DO love this person regardless? You cannot control love. You cannot force yourself to like and even dislike someone. It just goes natural.
I was in love with someone who didn't care and even brutally rejected me but despite trying not to love him anymore I wasn't able to.

This to say, if Gray is forcing himself then he isn't Gray firstly. Secondly, he is just chaining himself down in a disastrous future after years of suffering just to make another person's life bright. Is this Gray of Fairy Tail or...? The same one who canonically told Lyon to fight for his dreams and to expect a brighter future compared to their past? (oh! Didn't Gray have a flashback of Juvia while saying this? He is really forcing himself even in his subconscious lol)

@Wanderer is one of the nicest and logical Gray's fan out there and she's been told she is indeed denigrating his character to promote Gruvia whilst it is the opposite, as you said in your comment. Saying Gray is forced to love Juvia is just utterly insulting to him. Pity? Yeah, even living h a p p i l y with her was out of pity. Even holding her hand to cheer her up in Tartaros.

Some points about Juvia here were so true, I myself consider her obsession (mostly the merchandise she has...) and "love rival" thing annoying, but it's just comedy and Mashima uses it. Of course, tho, comedy has to be taken lightly as it should. Juvia jokes about love rivals coming for Gray, heck she even called Zera a love rival despite not knowing or seeing her.

I'll end it here... they say Gruvia fans do not understand Gray's character but imho it's the other side who doesn't.

Look at what I said here:

Get it now? You don't own the internet. If you want to debate with someone without another person coming in, do it in private and not on a public forum.

Nah Gruvia is still unappealing in my eyes. PERIOD.

I have different preference lmao guys just deal with it. You're like shoving Gruvia to my face like "if you don't ship it you suck" "gruvia is the best" "gruvia is the saving grace of FT". LMAO NO. Just like how others view nalu as boring, I view Gruvia as distasteful, creepy, and boring too. That's it.

It's like y'all gruvia fans can't accept flaws in the relationship. lmao. pathetic.

If others view jerza and gajevy as boring too... then okay? no need to get soooooo worked up about it.

What's annoying and disturbing honestly is you insulting fans when they aren't forcing and obliging you to like something and we said that 4 times in these 2 pages.

Nobody is even countering your complaints and opinions.
You can dislike what you want.
