Pretty sure the series was selling more than 700k at one point. The anime came out in like 2006 and ended around 2010ish.

What kind of things are you guys hoping or expecting to see in 2018 for WSJ's 50th anniversary?

Really would kill for a new game in the style of Jump Super/Ultimate Stars.

I would also like another Jump fighting game. Another J-Stars with the new characters from the new lineup would be great. Not sure how many of the series in WSJ will still be here in 2018 though.

I look forward to the anniversary despite it being about a year away. I'm sure it will be a fun year of surprises and events.

Super wild guesses(not necessarily things I want

1. Video game
2. Crossover chapter(s) between iconic characters
3. A film from a iconic series that ended decades ago
4. Reprint of first Jump issue ever

While this isn't going to happen, imagine how neat it would be to get a year long crossover series featuring all types of different characters from different Jump series over the years. Could be as simple as a gratuitous tournament manga, could have some generic everybody band together and save the world, or maybe a combination of both. Regardless, just the idea seeing the light of day would be really cool.

Drawn by Murata! Just for maximum fan wanking.

That would be awesome. Would kind of be a wasted opportunity for Jump not to do something like that. A tournament between fan favorite characters from popular series that is

They could maybe have some popular older creators return to do oneshots or mini-series, at the very least I imagine Toriyama will do something.

Actually, a simple little by the numbers tournament manga featuring popular characters from WSJ's past and current series could be pretty damn cool.

Imagine how badass Ryoma (PoT) vs Tsuna (Reborn!), or Train (Black Cat) vs Yusuke (YYH). Tanjiro vs Aster would probably be a funny fight.
I'd imagine the final match-up of the tournament would be something like Luffy vs Goku, or Luffy vs Deku or Aster, followed by a big nakama battle against Aizen who plotted the entire creation and rise of Shueshia, and the whole history of Weekly Shonen Jump just to be written into history and thus create this battle of heroes in order to ???.

They could do a big ass poll for readers to vote on which characters to be included.

It'd also be cool if we could vote between a few different mangaka's to do the series.

A crossover tournament would be the absolute worst kind of series to do as a celebration, pretty much all the feedback they'd get on it is people complaining about their favourite character losing/someone being way stronger in the series than they should be.

There's a reason jump series crossovers are all silly comedy things.

It's a fun thing to think about, but I do agree with tirakai in that a lot of fans are overly sensitive, and prefer the idea that the MC of their favourite series is stronger than yours. Forums would be a shit show.

I think if the tournament had a very comedic over the top tone it might go over well. They could just reason it as the results of the tournament were the results of the popularity poll. It's Jump and this would be comedic, so I'd be fine with characters like Hinata being able to take out characters like say; Allen Walker, if the tone is funny.

Meh, you're right, but it's bullshit.
I hate how much people hate fun.

What they could do, is have a tournament manga where it's just a team of WSJ MCs vs. original antagonists. That would be fun... but it's probably too ambitious.

It would be a good way to boost sales

Also a big fighting tournament would alienate too many series, Jump has a lot more than just battle shounen. You'd end up with something like Goku and Luffy and co getting a ton of screentime but characters from really popular era-defining sports and romance series would get a brief appearance at best. It would just end up feeling like a fighting game story mode anyway and at that point they'd be better off having the crossover be an actual fighting game.

If there was going to be a big crossover it'd probably be better to do a gag manga with each week being cameos drawn by different artists but I still think a series of separate oneshots would be best, perhaps with a central theme of celebrations and creators could choose whether they wanted to do something completely new or return to their old series one more time.

Isn't that literally just Everyone's Kochikame?

Use your imagination.
We can easily have sports MC's fighting battle MC's.

Just make Mario Kart with WSJ characters for the 3DS.
Jump Legacy Stars.
Move from spite based work to 3d models while retaining the Smasn Bros gameplay.

Maybe a Sudioken esque RPG with a ton of characters to recruit to your party?
