Why do you guys have so much distaste for series that are settled in schools to the point of complaining about My Hero Academia? It is just the environment, it is the same as complaining that there are too many series settled in Japan.
Its an over done concept due to Japan's obsession with nostalgia. People want to go a pirate adventures with ninjas and fight shingami in apcopaylse wasteland with wrestlers not go to school.
If this is going to be a long running series like Bleach/OP/Naruto, i doubt the school theme will stay fun. School themes is suited better short series like Assassination Classroom.

It is not about nostalgia here though... Many mangas settled in schools are shounen. You guys may be old and already in college or even working, but shounen is made for middle/high school kids. XD
Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga released its first episode.
I am a first time watcher. No offense, but don´t try to remember me that I have to watch the first season. I´m gonna do that later. I wanted to check out this episode because of the new director, who did two low budget Manglobe shows in Deadman Wonderland and Gangsta.
Well, A-1 gave him the right amount of money because this pilot not only looks as beautiful as some 1st season shot I´ve watched, but also I noticed some fluid animation in the combat scene. Of course, this is the 1st episode, so it remains to be seen if the quality can be maintained.
The music is, well, suitable but not much especial. And is good to hear Okamoto and Fukuyama´s VA. Fukuyama doesn´t sound like him, weird.
Narratively I´m not gonna discuss much, since I´m new to this franchise.

Watched ep 1 of MHA, I already figure I'll like it cause I like both Deku and Kacchan. The reason why Deku doesn't have a quirk is because of his pinky toe bone..? wut The humor isn't like the greatness we've from the Big 3 but it's still funny as shit

Well yeah that's why stuff like DBZ, YYH, Naruto and Bleach are extremely popular worldwide while something like AssClass and most sports shounen in general really were only really popular in Japan because stuff like that doesn't register with audiences outside there.

They are extremely popular worldwide because they were extremely popular in Japan first. Are you reducing the reason for four of the most successful series in manga history to the fact they were not settled in school? It is a shallow analysis to say the least. How about One Piece? It is not as successful as Naruto and Bleach in the occident and there is no school at all in the entire series.
Naruto had something similar to school with the ninja academy first and then genin missions and then chuunin exams at the beginning and it was the best part of the series. Sports series has always been a problem in the occident, not because they are settled in schools, but because they are sports manga. Assassination Classroom is a bad example because it is weird even for Japanese standards, it is not a normal series.
Last but not least, it is hard to measure the success of anything in the occident, besides huge success that really stand out, we don't know much about the rest. There is the block of huge success and than the rest, where many is average and sells almost the same among them, it is a black box.
We do not "dislike" the whole school thing of most mangas. I think that in Japan this is the "routine" that their audience have. Makes sense to write stories based on schools.
But to us, it's the opposite. We want fantasy worlds completely different than our realities. That's why the manga that people prefer here are: dragon ball, one piece, fairy tail, or whatever.
Personally I don't mind the plot to happen in a school, but it needs some differentiation. The whole "club activities" / delinquents / slice of life / romance annoys me.
What? Ace treated Luffy like shit as a kid and Law's first confrontation with Luffy wasn't on friendly terms either and just so you know even Sasuke was nice to Naruto at a certain point and acknowledged his strength which is something no other character at that point actually did since he was a flunkie.
And? Your complaint would be valid if Izuku was sucking up to him but he legit doesn't actively try to be his friend.
Point is that they didn't treat him well initially and in cases when they tried to push him away he was too stubborn to give up on them it wasn't a "I treat you the same way you treat me" deal he legimately liked them (in Law's case he saved his life). Hell Im pretty sure Luffy would actually like Bakugou because of his strength and laugh at his angry spurts, he made friends with an ass like Bellemy.
Luffy wanted to respect Ussop's wishes even if it meant separating and would have gladly accept him back any time and if Zoro didn't remind him that he committed mutiny and he had to beg to come back, the situation with Sanji is completely different.
Law first confrontation with Luffy was on friendly terms! It was in the Slave house where Law gave Luffy advice and Luffy noted about Bepo. After that they fought against the marines to get away. And than they pledge to be rivals and fight int he New World. I would call that very friendly.
Luffy first reaction with Ace was pretty bad, but he let the fact go, mainly because of what he learned with Shanks. About not being petty with little stuff. The fact Luffy went after Ace day after day, was very well explained when Luffy said that he would be alone with the bandits, that he hated, and Ace was the only one with around the same age as him.
Is not a matter of Sasuke being nice with Naruto. The fact is that Sasuke didn't had a big connection with Naruto to begin with. Zabusa arc and Forest Chuunin Exam, is not enough "connection".
The comparison with what is happening with Luffy and Sanji, and with Naruto and Sasuke, only goes until the Rescue Mission. Where Naruto did everything to save Sasuke. That was OK, but the rest of years that Naruto spent going after Sasuke where he time and time again not only rejected but even attacked and threatened to attack his friends and the village, wasn't.
Giving the fact of their connection not being that big, is hard to emphasize. With Luffy and Sanji, their connection is stronger and was a better relation overall, from its beginning to right now. Remember Sanji wasn't a just a Luffy friend, he pledge to be part of Luffy Pirate Crew and help Luffy achieve is goal. And not only that but Sanji told Luffy about his dreams as well.
Than you have the fact that Sanji went with Luffy Through, Baratie arc, Arlong Park, Loguetown, Twin Capes, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, Drum Kingdom, Alabasta, Jaya, Skypiea, Long Ring Long Land, Water 7, Ennies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody Archipelago, Fishmen Island, Punk Hazard and Dressrossa. Can't you understand what type of connection is made by people that pass a lot of time together into the same boat? People that shared their dreams, and promised to reach them together. Also Luffy understood Sanji Situation and why he was doing what he was doing, and why the reason Luffy didn't went after Sanji, but let him beat him, and than stayed there waiting for Sanji to resolve his problems. The equivalent in Naruto series would be Naruto letting Sasuke go resolve his problems with his older Brother and wait for him to return with open arms, not him going after Sasuke to convince him.
Between the Sasuke and Naruto situation and Luffy and Sanji, you basically have the difference between a guy that can't get past his teenage crush and stalks her. And a married couple for many years, where suddenly the wife started to distance herself and the husband goes after her the remake their relationship.
With Ussop is the same thing to Sanji, and in fact much stronger, being them the best pals, spending a lot of their time in the ship together. And Luffy indeed sent Ussop away from his crew!
And how did Ussop not treated Luffy well initially? They were best pals as soon as Luffy said he knew Ussop father.
Letting someone you care come back when he wants to return, is a different situation from someone that doesn't want to come and you going after them. The married couple metaphor is also good here. You have a Husband that cheated in his Wife, and she finds out. There is a big difference between, the husband asking forgiveness and wanting another chance, and the wife accepting it easily. And the wife going after the husband for him to come back to her and how things were before.
The first is Luffy and Ussop, the second is Naruto and Sasuke.
About Law, I hope you're not talking of the stupid thing in Dressrossa of Law saying their alliance was finished and Luffy not accepting that decision.
Bellamy and Bakugou situation are in no way related. Are we forgetting that Luffy punched Bellamy out cold? And that he only became Bellamy friend when Bellamy told him that what was in the past was no more?
Bakugou would keep that stupid attitude with Luffy for as long as he did with Midoriya and Luffy would certainly not keep being his friend. After Bakugou change is stance is something different.

One Piece is way more successful in the west than Bleach! West, Occident, is not equivalent of USA. In Europe One Piece was always more popular than Bleach(Example: France!) .
Right now One Piece is more successful than Naruto, and while it can be argued that with the hype time of Naruto, in total Naruto is still keeping above One Piece, is obvious that is changing.
We have regular data about the 2 biggest Occident markets, France and USA. And not regularly about other strong countries like Germany and such. Is definitely not a Black Box.
They're a lot of properties that are popular in Japan but don't make a splash outside of it and vice versa. It being popular in Japan first isn't the only factor for having appeal because what's sensible to Japan isn't going to be to everyone else hence why a lot of Jump titles bombed in the US.

One Piece is hugely popular in all of Asia and most of Europe, the only place in which Naruto is bigger than OP is the US.
Naruto had something similar to school with the ninja academy first and then genin missions and then chuunin exams at the beginning and it was the best part of the series. Sports series has always been a problem in the occident, not because they are settled in schools,
The school aspect of Naruto gets dropped after the first arc and they're never seen in class again, its appeal was not the fact that they were in school but they fact that they were FUCKING NINJAS DOING NINJA THINGS which before Naruto's popularity, in Japan, ninjas were mostly seen as a joke and not something that was "cool" with kids hence why you see a lot of "ninja" manga like Flame of Recca or Ninku not resemble ninjas at all.
but because they are sports manga. Assassination Classroom is a bad example because it is weird even for Japanese standards, it is not a normal series
The biggest appeal for AssClass is mainly because it takes place in school and the fact that Matsui actually did a good job in showcasing anxieties kids in Japanese school have to go through, the shit with Koro-sensei's past and assassinations wasn't the highlight (which is saying something because they became the weakest aspect of the manga) but ironically enough the emotional core between the students and teachers.

Stop sugar coating it. What's successful and what's not is blatantly obvious and the reason why Viz refuses to pick up certain manga over others its because they're afraid that they won't have any appeal for readers outside Japan.
Shokugeki no Soma is leader among Jump series this time... It still feels strange seeing Toriko and Gintama losing for series much younger than them, the downfall was hard... Almost the same can be said about Shuumatsu no Harem and Saiki except that Saiki sales has always been meager. XD
Huh? SnS was always selling more per volume than both Toriko & Gintama per volume during it's serialization. What are you even talking about the downfall being hard? Gintama sales are declining but it is ending very soon and same applied to Toriko when it was ending. SnS will fall under the same category most likely during it's final years.
Law first confrontation with Luffy was on friendly terms! It was in the Slave house where Law gave Luffy advice and Luffy noted about Bepo. After that they fought against the marines to get away. And than they pledge to be rivals and fight int he New World. I would call that very friendly
It wasn't friendly terms in fact he didn't have much interest in him until he smacked the shit out of the noble and during his declaration that he was going to be Pirate King he glared at him. They didn't really knock boots until afte the timeskip where Luffy thanked him for saving his life.
That still doesn't negate anything I said. Ace was an ass to him and didn't want him around and they eventually bonded with one another.
Is not a matter of Sasuke being nice with Naruto. The fact is that Sasuke didn't had a big connection with Naruto to begin with. Zabusa arc and Forest Chuunin Exam, is not enough "connection".
Tell that to Kishimoto. The biggest connection between the both of them was that they were both isolated and alone and didn't have anyone to depend on and they eventually acknowledged one another when they were teamed up, execution aside the groundwork between them is there just poorly developed.
I agree entirely but that still falls within the same mantra of both of them being stubborn and not wanting to give up on their firends. The situations are obviously different (also Sasuke did initially push everyone away to not get them involved and couldn't go through with killing Naruto before going full edgelord in Part 2) but its still the same concept of the MC not giving in to save a friend.
About Law, I hope you're not talking of the stupid thing in Dressrossa of Law saying their alliance was finished and Luffy not accepting that decision
Law was serious about calling off the alliance and Luffy didn't listen because he doesn't take Law's act seriously despite trying to push him way due to his stubborn attitude.
Bellamy was an ass and literally shat on his dream and Luffy doesn't become instant friends with all his former adversaries. Luffy would not take Bakugou's act seriously much like everyone in Class 1-A sees him for who he is and he would definitelly be amazed at his quirk ability, actually I don't even think Bakugou would hate Luffy because he's strong.
School is just a set piece for YYH that's only there to establish that Yusuke is in highschool, it doesn't have any significant role essentially since Yusuke always plays hookey. Same thing with Bleach with the exception of those Kon chapters in the first arc.

I decided not talk about those two because I never read then although I read maybe around 10 chapters of Bleach and I vaguely remember that it was in a school.
Yes, that was what I said.
Well, we say occident here we are fundamentally talking about USA. Sorry.
Really? We don't even have a proper number of sales in the USA. As for in other countries, I don't know.

We do have numbers for the USA but they come at the very tail end of the year. Highest selling titles would sell close to 500k for the total year ranked and that's only for BIG titles like OPM, SnK and TG everything else would sell well below 100k for the fiscal year. Manga sales in the US reached its peak with Naruto a decade ago which would reportedly sell a million per volume in a year when it first started. France also has their own tracking system but its much more frequent than the USA since manga is much more popular there.

I know that and it feels strange since the beginning, I just commented now. lol
I follow this since before Shokugeki even comes to magazine and despite the drop in sales, Toriko and Gintama still kept its position for quite some time, only after Haikyuu, Nisekoi, Shokugeki and stuff that they started to lose its position in the magazine. 3~4 years ago they seemed untouchable, that's why I said that it is strange seeing them in such position.
It is not true AT ALL that every old manga is destined to have decreases in its sales. We know very well the reasons for this.
I hope that Shokugeki no Soma doesn't fall into this category.

500k per volume in a year? In the United States? Nope! That never happened. If you're talking about the entire series, and in the hype year where people are catching up every volume, maybe. I Believe Attack on Titan was able to achieve that, maybe.
Last year, 2015 best volume was Tokyo Ghoul volume 1, with 50,541 copies sold. And the next one Attack on Titan volume 1, with 34,107 copies sold.
2014 best volume was Attack on Titan volume 1, with 54,520 copies sold. Next one Attack on Titan volume 2, with 37,266 copies sold. (Yep, in 2 years of Attack on Titan in the USA, the 1st volume only sold 84,648 copies).
2013 best volume was Naruto volume 60, with 28,631 copies sold. Next one Attack on Titan volume 1, with 28,512 copies sold(Yep, in 3 years Attack on Titan volume 1 did 113,160 copies sold in USA, and was a huge phenomenon).
