My Hero Academia aired in Nichigo Slot, a highly popular, almost Primetime Block, that majority of times airs series with 2 cours(22-26 episodes). The block now ended.
Also note that My Hero Academia was one of the worse, if not the worse, TV rated series in the Block!
Nope. Its average tally was 2.45% which is nowhere near the lowest ratings in the block, that's not only higher than the previous show (Iron Blooded Orphans) but higher than everything else that aired last year, it also got better ratings as it went one as oppose to starting out strong and completely losing its audience share as it went on (Sengoku Basara 2, Gundam AGE, etc.). Nichigo was a less popular offshoot of the Saturday slot it originated from with the highest rated show to come from it was Gundam 00 S2 with a 4% audience share with everything else averaging 2-3%.

About more number of episodes. Not only the block normally does 2 season series, as well as My Hero Academia manga at the time had already chapters enough for such an adaptation.
Its done both even before MHA last year alone Arslan S2 was relegated to 8 episodes.
There is really no excuse about the time of release, for why it only had 13 episodes. Nor there is a Timeslot why it didn't exploded in popularity. Haikyuu!!, Seven Deadly Sins, Magi, Kuroko no Basket, Blue Exorcist, Full Metal Alchemist. All this series exploded in popularity in this exact block! And all of them had 2 cours or more.
Magi didn't explode in popularity, Kuroko no Basket didn't air on Nichigo and FMA was already hugely successful. Haikyuu has fujoshi, Seven Deadly Sins boost is already over and can't say anything Blue Exorcist other than luck.

Lol Demons Plan, Get outta here already. Pave the way for Ole Golazo!
HZ chapter was pretty sick so deserved ranking.
Soma is back! It wasn't the start of the flashback yet though (end of the Shokugeki), so it may drop again for a chapter or two.
Yaiba doing awesome.
Straighten Up is now very comfortable.

On the topic of Straighten Up, has anyone been reading it now that's its getting scanlated? I have no idea why its rankings were so low during the Nationals arc because it's been really good (better than up until that point at least). I mean, it could have been the Editorial influence thinking it would be getting the axe at any moment, but it wasn't in that situation the entire arc.

Ive been somewhat following it in Japanese. Its been a pretty standard start for a sports series. It does have its own quirky style, but I can also see how people would dislike that, and Banba isn't too great of a MC, yet at least. Its got Fujoshi potential. But honestly I can't say anything about it before more of the team/rivals are introduced because they're what make or break sports series, and it might be a bit slow paced in that regard. I predict a ranking in the bottom third, but not as bad as the 3 other new series have done. I also wonder what Japan thinks.

Wow seeing that list, there really are not that many great mangas anymore in Jump. And still no World Trigger :(

Neverland is the only new series that's going to end up surviving, it seems. Hopefully they start pairing off artists with writers with the next set of serializations.

Haikyuu is extremely popular in Japan though

The duos mangaka clearly is not a bad idea. You have

Doberman Deke (1975), Hikaru no Go, Dragon quest, Fist of North Star, Hell Teacher Nube, Eyeshield21,To Love Ru (Darkness too), Death Note, Bakuman, Shokugeki no Soma, and currently Neverland. Fill me in on what I've missed :)

Was Haikyuu an immediate big hit, or was it a slow burner? Just curious

This may sound superficial, but when I hear a new series has a writer + artist, I become more interested than usual. >_>

Anyone have a hunch as to why Bleach 74 is suddenly performig so well in daily sales, it went from not being in the top 500 for days to jumping to the top 150 and staying for the last few days

It was pretty popular from the beginning but I think the popularity has grown consistently

Ahh I see. My bad. Then I agree, the rest are pretty poor in quality imo
