Just completely baffles me how Jellal can be so overrated. He really has very poor feats since the timeskip. Erza has been far more impressive. She takes it high diff if I give him the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn't just automatically assume his growth rate is on par with Fairy Tail big guns and actually look for SOME credible feats putting him on her level or beyond, and he has none.

To say Jellal has no credible feats to put him on the level of Fairy Tail's strongest mages is true. But to say he has very poor feats is false.

The problem here is that you are confusing the meaning between poor feats and questionable feats.

Poor Feats
  • Definition: Basically, the character under-performs against characters that should be on their level or lower (by powerscaling).
  • Example: Eileen. Supposedly, she is one of the strongest Spriggans. However, she took significant damage from Erza and Wendy. In addition, her attack power hasn't really proven itself in being able to take down mages of her caliber.
Questionable Feats
  • Definition: To keep it simple, the character doesn't have enough feats or their feats encompasses such a large gap.
  • Example: Jellal. He one-shotted a member of the Spriggan 12 with Grand Chariot (Note that this isn't a high-tier spell). On the other hand, he was defeated by one of the strongest mages in this arc.
So there is obviously a clear difference here. A poor feat is easily recognizable. A questionable feat is unknown.

A poor feat is getting oneshotted by Neinheart by any definition of the word. A poor feat is also requiring such a tangible amount of time to charge up a spell to off someone who could basically be two-shotted by a basic punch. Either he had to use that time to gather that energy, showing weak offensive output (and being eclipsed in growth by Natsu completely) or he showed poor judgement in wasting all that time to do it and having to get helped by Kagura to finish off the spell.

The thing I'll never get is the huge amount of praise Erza receives. Like, to me it seems insane that people actually think she is superior to mages as Natsu, Mirajane and even Jellal for god's sake. I mean, her magic is not even S-Class worthy at this point. Most of her armours are rather featless, and she can't take down some powerful nuke droppers by just swinging a sword. No fucking WAY that she can even scratch Jellal.

Jellal never got one-shotted by Neinhart. He drowned. And the time it took to charge that spell wasn't that long. It seemed long because events happened in between like Simon appearing, Kagura slicing him, Jellal getting the approval he needed, and then casting Grand Chariot. It was ready long before all that happened. It was just interference that prevented him from releasing it.

We obviously won't agree so I will let you have the last word. But to underestimate Jellal because of one fight that shouldn't even be considered a "poor feat" is pretty risky.

Erza wins this Medium-difficulty... Jellal feats in this arc is not anything impressive

Until Jellal can show something, then they tie.

I'm not giving Erza the win just because of what happened in the recent chapter. Wendy was there to assist her with DS enchantments in terms of beating Dragon Irene.

As for the Meteor, people say Makarov's spirit helped her tank that or something. It's possible, but I don't believe in that myself.

I just don't think Sema is as powerful of a spell as it was hyped up to begin with... it's considered an outdated spell for the current arc.

But, at the same time, I'm not willing to give Jellal the win either. He looked like he struggled a lot more with regular old Neinhart compared to Natsu who took down an enhanced version.

Him getting stomped by August, alongside OS, didn't really add anything to that credibility either, but at least it's understandable here.

Therefore, I stand by my decision that this battle is a tie until further feats are shown.

I'm saying Erza wins over Jello with mid-high diff simply because he has yet to show us that much feats, and because she's Erza.
Not a one-liner.

Jellal has been trash in this arc.
Arguably one shot by a Neinhart spell (one shot or just drown, let's not start that good old debate again).
Needed to put much power into an old spell to defeat Neinhart whose enhanced version was casually demolished by Natsu.
Curbstomped by August alongside the rest of CS males (i'll be honest, that was only expected).
And now we've had Jellal's best spell to date, Sema, casted by Dragon Irene as an even better version (Deus Sema), and that meteor got destroyed by Erza with one slash and broken bones.

In regards of chapter 519 i'll go with Erza mid diff - even if every fiber of my body wants Jellal to still be relevant and top tier, he needs to start proving it.

Jellal murks her. Jellal gets a lot of shit but he's on par with Fairy Tail's heavy hitters like Laxus and Gildarts.

to be fair, jellal was a victim of hiro's bad writing in this arc, feats say erza is going to destroy him low-diff, yeah I agree, because jellal didn't show anything in this arc. maybe hiro didn't have any plans for him with crime sorcier against any spriggan ( but I expect they'll make a comeback against him).

neinhart obviously didn't one-shot jellal, infact:
1) he didn't get a single scratch from that attack, ( I believe hiro used that
2) he shielded kagura and got caught off guard + was fast enough to do that ( while erza barely reacted to neinhart's attack )
3) a lot of characters while being off-guard, they got one-shotted by shitty attacks like what happened to brandish.

just because an attack "A" take out a character. while another attack did the same thing, doesn't really mean they are equally powerful.
grand chariot did more damage to neinhart than natsu's punch did.
neinhart shouldn't have really survive jellal's attack because he was drowning anyway (but hiro realized he'll need later so he must survive & f@@k logic)

+

People take powerlevels seriously while it's not even consistent in other good-written manga. hiro doesn't care about that at all lol.

meh Erza currently.

Jellal got knocked out by Neinhart's blast. he may not took damage but he was knocked out or he doesn't know how to swim or he couldn't move the anchor. either way, its pathetic unfortunately.

so Erza currently wins.

Jellal is just featless at the moment.

beating Neinhart while charging up his GC for that long is not impressive.

Erza blitzez him 100 times before he charges it up.

Sure he's a heavy hitter, but he's also a glass cannon. Unless he wants to kill her, her endurance and durability outclass any of his non-lethal spells. But to be fair, we haven't necessarily seen him go all out since his fight with August was off-screen.

Honestly, I think Erza is a little overrated here. We have to keep in mind that despite Erza's new feats, she still had old ones. And by hyping her because of what happened in the last few chapters, we're practically ignoring inconsistencies. What I mean is this: Erza's strongest attack, Nakagami Starlight, only took out an injured Ajeel. Meanwhile, Jellal's casual spell, Grand Chariot, one-shotted a Spriggan.

Now looking at it from this perspective, I don't think Erza is superior to Jellal. I get it. The main problem with Jellal is that he doesn't have many feats. To make matters worst, he fought the weakest and the strongest Spriggan, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly where he is.

Nonetheless, I'm not trying to discredit Erza here, but she didn't really change as of the past few chapters. Her slash on Irene was with the help of Wendy. And slicing through that meteor was obviously PoF. You can argue otherwise but I just don't see Erza being stronger than Jellal.

Actually that is exactly what we do
Gray had pof against invel. We dont say he is around wahl robot tier. Because he got stopped by one.
Jellal one shotting nienhart was also pof
Laxus killing wahl was also pof
Erza overpowering irene top tier move was also pof

Wendy helped erza side step irene immunity. The brute strength was erza alone
Her strongest hit isnt nakagami. Its one she used to over power irene top tier move

Erza is never over rated by fan base.
You will never see them giving erza feats which she doesnt have. Which they might do for others
They will question hype relating to erzs one billion times
That's why people think everyone can stop deus sema after they saw erza do it
While hype for jellal or laxus will be accepted in first go. Even if rest of hypes are being proven false.
Remember sema hype from gmg arc. How many fans were impressed by it?

I dont know why you cant see erza being stronger than jellal. Jellal was never stronger than erza. They were canonically around each other level since the start. Its only matter of time before mishma makes main character surpass others.
Mishma alread hinted with Deus sema

Um, Gray only got stopped by that robot because it was his exact counter, the second he swapped with Juvia he trashed it.
Jellal one shotting nienhart was also pof
How was that POF? Genuinely curious. All that happened was he got enraged, charged a spell (that changed the entire skyline) and then hit Neinhart and his ship. If anything Jellal's one feat in this arc got ruined because of chap 500 where base Natsu one-shotted Neinhart with an unnamed punch whilst making a POF speech. So yeah, not seeing how Jellal's feat in Hargeon was POF..
Laxus killing wahl was also pof
Agreed here, Red Lightning came out of nowhere. That said, he has been hyped to be capable of casually one-shotting Spriggans, so you can't exactly discredit the guy.
Erza overpowering irene top tier move was also pof
Definitely agreed here.
Wendy helped erza side step irene immunity. The brute strength was erza alone
Wendy enchanted her sword with Dragon Slaying magic, that was the main thing that allowed Erza to beat Irene (besides the metric shit ton of POF), you can't claim it was Erza's power that made the difference against Dragon-Irene when she had to rely on Wendy's power.
You will never see them giving erza feats which she doesnt have. Which they might do for others
Such as? I don't often take part in Erza theads so again, genuine question.
They will question hype relating to erzs one billion times
That's why people think everyone can stop deus sema after they saw erza do it
People question Erza's hype because she's the poster girl for POF. After Erza vs Azuma, Erza vs Kyoka and Erza vs Irene, you can hardly blame people for being skeptical. And this is doubly true in the case of her slicing Deus Sema, as she was nearing it she spouted off a friendship speech, naturally people are going to call BS on it, especially considering that every bone in her body (bar her right arm) was broken. Add on the fact that she went on to knock Irene out of her dragon form... yeah, I really don't see how you can blame them. Because it's either:

- An Erza that's been battered by Ajeel, battered by Historias, battered by Berserkers, battered by Irene's enchantment blasts, with ALL of her bones broken can break a meteor whilst healthy top tiers can't.

Or

- That Meteor is weak sauce unless it hits the ground, and can be broken before it arrives.

I think we both know which is more logical out of those two options.
While hype for jellal or laxus will be accepted in first go. Even if rest of hypes are being proven false.
Wait.. are you genuinely saying that hype for Jellal is just accepted? Are you having a giggle? :kappa

This is the same Jellal that constantly gets the piss taken out of him because he had one good feat that was turned into a laughing stock after chapter 500. In fact, people tend to ignore that he:

- Reacted to and intercepted Neinhart's nuke when Erza and Kagura only noticed it last second
- Hardly had any damage done to him by Neinhart's nuke (he was pinned underwater by an anchor, of course he's going to be unconscious)

Seriously, Jellal may still have some people that still buy his hype, but even his fans (me included) admit that his feats haven't been spectacular.

As for Laxus he has feats to back his hype up, even though I think he's overhyped by some, it's flat out laughable to say that his hype has been proven false when he's been portrayed to one-shot Spriggans and actually did one-shot one the second he got passed his immunity.

Even ignoring those points, the reason why their hype is bought is because they've always been top-tiers in previous arcs, and while that may be about to change (I obvious want Jellal to stay top-tier, but it's looking less and less likely) you can't blame people for being cautious about Jellal seeing as how we've only seen two different extremes from him (one-shotting a Spriggan and being stomped by August), and all we've seen from Laxus is him one-shotting a Spriggan and him being hyped as one-shotting another.

Do make note that the Spriggan Laxus was hyped to one-shot was the same Spriggan that would have killed Erza.

Also, why did you bring in Laxus?
Remember sema hype from gmg arc. How many fans were impressed by it?
Yeah, but Sema hype is completely different, the reasons people were hyped for Sema in GMG was because:

- Jura crapped himself at the mere sight of the gathering clouds (and back then, Jura was the one to beat)
- Ultear had to interrupt him or it would blow his cover (so it's a big spell)
- It was a new Heavenly Body spell (they've always been cool and pretty damned powerful)

Besides, we only saw the gathering of clouds in GMG, meaning that people would have had crazy ideas as for what it was. Basically, the hype is similar to the GOI only Sema actually delivered when we saw it in Tartaros.
I dont know why you cant see erza being stronger than jellal. Jellal was never stronger than erza. They were canonically around each other level since the start
What? Canonically around each other from the start? Jellal would have killed her in the ToH had she been left to fight him, the only reason she survived then was thanks to Natsu showing up to help and Simon blocking Altaris, and for most of that fight Jellal was restricting himself so that he wouldn't bust the tower. On top of that, no way were they equals in the GMG, the fight between Jellal and Jura heavily hinted that Sema would either outright KO Jura or heavily injure him, on the other hand Mira said she wasn't sure if her and Erza together could beat him.

With this being said, it doesn't really matter as pre-skip feats are useless now, and seeing all the foreshadowing that has been left, Jellal is likely to face August again with help, which is where we'll get to see his actual power level (unless Mashima wants to troll him more of course).
Its only matter of time before mishma makes main character surpass others.
Mishma alread hinted with Deus sema
Mashima hinted with Deus Sema? Not really, consider this: Erza hasn't even seen Jellal use Sema before. All she saw was the gathering of clouds in the GMG, then it got interrupted. Not meaning to bash Irene, but Erza hyping up Deus Sema as stronger than Jellal's Sema means absolutely nothing as she hasn't seen the latter...

Wow. I have to give @MLG Bradman credit here. He summed it up better than I ever could. One good point that he brought up was about Erza hyping Deus Sema. Exactly when did she see Jellal use Sema in the current arc? Never. So she was most likely comparing it to his pre-timeskip versions which is hardly reliable...
