I agree...as much as I love YYH, I hope there's no "reboot".
Especially if they go with the same mindset of Sailor Moon Crystal thinking that the adaptation needs to be more "faithful". If you do a reboot take from what was improved with the adaptation instead of just going back to the manga but as you said I would prefer they left it alone.

It's not an exclusively western attitude that people want to see their favorite things adapted as they are....that's just common sense. Though, again, I really think you mean minor changes, so maybe I'm just reading your argument wrong.
As I said, US doesn't care about adaptations being faitful. Every comic book movie, good or bad, doesn'f follow faithfully any of the comic stories they are known for. Nowadays, you can ask at least 10 comic book fans if they expected the Civil War movie to be 100% faithful. 7 of them would say "No, it's obvious, but I expect a good movie". And I like the movie more than the Civil War comic.

You can criticize as much as you want, but it is not the role of the anime staff to change the core of the story and make it impossible to continue the story. Well, maybe they didn't have the intention to make a second season since the beginning, that's why they did this atrocity... Anyway, I have no complaints about the series right now, since you said "I hear..." I assume that you are not reading it, so I suggest you read to validate these opinions. Anyway, going off topic, I will stop here.
I enter into Fukka's threads, and see those criticisms. Probably that's why Seo Kouji said to the director "Let Fuuka 1 live in this series". And it's official news. And if it doesn't have a 2nd season, it's because it's a garbage romance and musical series. Not because they altered the twist.

Not a Jump manga, but seriously, I still heard some people saying FMA 2003 is better than FMA brotherhood.
And of course Sailor Moon vs Sailor Moon Crystal. Bottomline a lot of people won't care if the adaptation isn't faithful it just has to be...good.

Basically this, but there is a "too far" when it comes to changing things. Otherwise yeah, generally speaking some changes are good, even better for an adaption. If you keep the core concepts and characterizations intact, then I think that's a winning strategy.

Wake up to a billion pages to read :O.

Best Jump Adaptations: Gintama, Haikyuu, Kuroko, HxH 2011, JoJo, Saiki.
I cant really judge if older series had good adaptations or not because I generally only watch the anime and dont experience the manga.

Best Jump Ops:
We Are from One Piece tops this list. Have yet to encounter a more iconic opening that defined a series so well. Naruto, Bleach and other big shounens dont even have iconic OPs that define them, just good ones that happen somewhere down the line. The first few were rubbish.

Overall Gintama takes the cake. No series has as high a rate of good OPs (and EDs) as this. Haikyuu, D Gray Man (+Hallow), JoJo also have mostly great ones. Naruto has some amazing ones, but also some abyssmal ones, as does Bleach.

Not a Jump manga, but seriously, I still heard some people saying FMA 2003 is better than FMA brotherhood.
Goddamn. I remember thinking FMA was horseshit before I watched Brotherhood because of 2003. Almost put me off the series entirely. Glad I kept with it...

...See but comic books are different from manga. I'll be the first to say I don't know much about comics but even the biggest comic fans I've talked to have said it gets confusing trying to differentiate from retellings to reversions to crossovers to reboots and whatnot, and add to this that when they're making a movie, they're not making it for comic book fans, but for the general public and of course it makes sense not to adapt something exactly as it happened in the comics since there are so many of them for one universe/characters to begin with.

Anime adaptations are generally for fans of the manga who want to see their favorite manga colored with voices and music first and foremost. It they happen to score a few new fans that's a happy bonus more than it is an end goal. A change here or there might be done to enhance the product, but comparing it to comic books that are often more of a community effort than a manga drawn by one person and a few assistants is kind of disingenuous. It might sound condescending for me to say this, but comics aren't manga, and therefore cannot be adapted with the same mindset.

I wouldn't mind a YYH anime remake, but that's knowing it won't be quite like the one that came before. There's a style to 90's anime that you don't see all that much anymore.

Like you don't see much that looks like this: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net...vs_Yomi.png/revision/latest?cb=20120113032440

Or this: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...mon_Gun.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090623192333

I can understand the desire to be faithful to the original, because usually when people like something they have a vague idea of "why it's good". And a lot of the time when something's adapted and it changes at all it's because the director of the anime didn't get "why it was good". It happens with any sorta adaptation. People have been talking about it this week with the GitS movie Hollywood adaptation.

But if the creative direction DOES understand what made something good, then they can do things to improve it. They can figure out which themes lacked thematic cohesion and alter those. They can find where the pacing was bad and speed it up or slow it down, they can fix out-of-character moments or add little scenes that act as window dressing to add more to the world or the characters, that sorta thing.

Yu Yu Hakusho would make a excellent 60 episode anime. I'm baffled how people think the original one was perfect despite being so stretched out you'd think Toei was behind it.

It was like 160 chapters adapted into 112 episodes. 1.4 chapters per episode is almost One Piece pacing..

It's a bit offtopic, but I'd like to know what are your favorite mangas, ended or not, from WSJ or other magazines.

My favorite manga is AoHaraido, but Shiki (both from Shueisha) is really close.

From Weekly Shounen Jump... Maybe Black Clover or Bakuman. But watch out with this, I said they are my favorites, not the bestest that I think "Wow! Such a well planned manga!". For me, favorite are just taste (specifically in BC's case).

My all time favourite manga is Gintama, with my big 'nostalgia' series being Dragon Ball, Shaman King, Ranma 1/2 and Pokemon Adventures. If MHA continues to be as good as it is by the time it finishes, then that will replace Gintama.

My favorite Jump related series is Kokou no Hito or Kingdom. My favorite non-Jump related series is Vinland Saga and it's my all time favorite.

I really don't get it. People talking as if YYH anime was a masterpiece, but it was... ok. They didn't add much and they took out some parts that weren't all that good, but the pacing was fucked up. If they made a remake of the anime, taking out the first chapters and with a good pace, it will be great.

I want the episodic chapters animated but it doesn't have to be at the start. It could take up 3-5 minutes after the credits on certain episodes when they strategically set up cliffhangers.

"American people don't care about faithfulness" > Ghost in the Shell american adaptation just failed miserably.
We should have learned by now that we cannot give mangas in american hands to be adapted... It always happens..

It's not really an issue of being faithful, it was just kind of a bad movie. I saw it yesterday and guessed nearly every plot point in the first five minutes, and I've never read or watched the original.
People are going to whine more about Jump anime and stuff like that being faithful just because the people who would care about that are the ones who actually watch it. GitS was supposed to be more mainstream.

Yes, like I said before, people who already knows the manga will watch the anime to watch their favorite scenes animated and will not like to see that everything was mutilated. I know very well about that because I mostly watch anime because of this, I rarely watch new things... I don't have a problem with original stories, the majority of the movies are original stories like One Piece movies, SAO, Naruto and stuff, but they advertise it as such. If they want to change everything in the anime, say so and then make the author follow every step to see what he thinks about it, otherwise it will be a great mess guaranteed.

Ohhh, I am so disappointed that no one here actual mentioned the german Naruto Opening. it is a "masterpiece" and deserves to be mentioned:
Though, on a serious note, I actually think the german One Piece opening was pretty great(though, I admit, you should be german to appreciate it):
Or the german Sailor Moon opening-
TIn the 90s everything had to be Techno in germany:

But back to the topic-
The JoJo OPs are mostly my favourites. Yeah, Bleach & Naruto had several great OPs, without any doubt(One Piece, of course, too), but I kinda love the JoJo OPs with their little details & the fact that they change over time.

Regarding the topic with Adaptions-
It's difficult. The Dom, an Internet-critic for Book->Movie adaptions(his videos are fittingly called "Lost in Adaptation") said several times, that a good adaption doesnt mean it overall a good product(which was already said in this thread, I know). Sometimes something which worked in the original media, doesnt have to work in its adaptation(That's also a reason why there are so many bad video-game movies. Because video games are supposed to be PLAYED, not watched!). For example, in books many thoughts & character-development happen in the head of the protagonist, something which doesnt really work in a movie. In Manga and Anime it's a little bit trickier, because they are quite similiar already. Ironically, I know an instant of a change, it happened in the first season of Attack on Titan. When Annie Leonhart got "unmasked", without spoiling too much, her reaction was a creepy smile in the manga. In the anime it was changed into a hysteric laughing fit, where she blushed. isayama himself ordered this change, so far I know, because he wanted her to portray more "human"- His opinion was, her reaction in the manga was too one-dimensional. Which I get. Still bothered me, because it was out-of-character and just... weird.
In the end, I wouldnt demonize changes, if necessary because it's another media, or if it's actual improvement to the source material. But there we also have to accept, that there will be endless discussions, when something is an improvement and what not.
