"Power of the dead" being able to kill him doesnt mean he doesnt still benefit from the colossal advantage immortality grants him. Besides, that "power of the dead" thing just seemed like Zeref being poetic. Natsu didnt know anything about it, yet was still confident he'd kill Zeref just because of the strength Igneel's power gave him. It's likely that the strength is the true factor, like with END, IgNatsu is just so far above Zeref that even with an immortal body he'd still die. We saw clearly that once he got some breathing room after Natsu left, Zeref was easily able to regen all injuries inflicted by "dead power". Without his immortality Zeref would've probably been killed by Natsu's first attack.

His offense is pretty mediocre too, at least so far.
I feel some of you are underestimating Zeref "a lot".

First of all Zeref is not being poetic here.He is a mage of 400 years worth of knowledge and experience-he perfectly knows what can kill him and what cannot.

It has been mentioned by Zeref himself that the "power of the dead" can kill him.And also Natsu commented that these residue of power left by Igneel can kill him.So he may also know this fact.

Zeref survived an attack of this scale.

Any other person from Ishgar would have been vaporised by that single attack.

And as it was the power of dead immortality doesn't protect one from it.He survived that attack with pure durability alone.
I can't post the CR version due to forum rules but there it was said the second hit would have killed Zeref. And Zeref and Natsu both believed the second hit would have finished him.So if his immortality saved him,it would have saved him the second time also.

The power of the dead itself doesn't kill a person,it allowed the attack to bypass immortality.Otherwise any power of dead, even Makarov's can kill Zeref. But that is not the case.In order to kill you need a power of dead and M.P. of the scale of Igneel.Even then one attack wasn't strong enough to kill Zeref. We needed another.

And he only healed because he got time to do so.
The power of the dead,we have no evidence, can prevent regeneration,it was outrightly stated by Zeref it can kill.

His offense is pretty mediocre too, at least so far.
And Zeref's offence isn't mediocre also.He injured IgNatsu and could go on several physical fights with IgNatsu. He one shotted Larcade with a single attack.

The fight turned into a stalemate and only when Zeref allowed Natsu entered FDKM state.Otherwise it might have continued for long.

Jacob did far better against base Natsu than Zeref is doing right now, physically Jacob is leaps and bounds ahead of him. Currently its looking like immortality is the only thing that makes Zeref powerful, you'd think a guy who has an entire book of magic named after him would use a few spells.
So now Jacob can go on toe with IgNatsu in physical fight :).So he is the strongest Spriggan i guess.Because in a way you are suggesting that Jacob is a better physical fighter than Zeref which is clearly not the case as seen in the above picture.

Remember what Zeref said to Gray in chap 522.He is trying to unleash Natsu's inner strength. So he hasn't gone 100% yet.And also i believe Natsu's true power is coming out.Simon had also said when Natsu reaches the level of Igneel he will be able to burn every darkness. And also Zeref had foreshadowed since Tenrou Arc that Natsu will become stronger than he and defeat him.So it's clear that Natsu will become the strongest one in Ishgar.

Ah, fair enough. Insta-freeze is slow as hell, shouldnt even be called insta-freeze. Even as a surprise attack, Natsu, Lucy and Juvia still took a while to freeze, first they got cold, then Natsu started pulling out some fire, then finally they froze. A better name for it would be "gradual-freeze". Besides, any decently powerful wizard should be able to break out of it and we've yet to see it work on anyone outside of a surprise attack.
Slow ? He instant freezed Mavis before she even feels the freshness (lol)
Invel was freezing Natsu attack before freezing Natsu, Lucy and Juvia, after his attack he instant freeze them.
A wizard like Laxus, God Serena or Gildarts are able to break, not Dimaria.
Oh, it is? That's fair then. Serena shouldn't be above Laxus and Jellal while Rahkeid should be above Gildarts imo.
Gildarts said in a real fight against God Serena he don't know if he can win.
Gildarts > God Serena > Laxus=Jellal
Laxus would be a good fight for God Serena but that's all,God Serena have better feats than Laxus.

In a serious fight Gildarts can beat Rahkeid, Frosch resisted at pleasure, Gildarts can too.

Compared to Dimaria's Age Seal it is slow. It took time to freeze Mavis, Natsu, and co. He didn't instant freeze them since for Mavis case the ice was creeping up on her which isn't instant freezing while Natsu and co., they were only feeling cold at first instead of being frozen then and there which is what it means to be instantly frozen like for example, how Silver done Natsu back with in Tartarus with just a wave of his hand. He'll be affected by Age Seal before he freezes Dimaria

Mavis had just woken up from her crystal form. She was at that point so weak that she wasnt even sure that she could use magic. Freezing her isnt even as impressive as Silver freezing Tartaros Natsu. Against an average wizard(Lucy/Juvia tier), it takes time to freeze.

Only judging based on his perforance.

.
Him being knowledgeable doesnt have anything to do with him being poetic. Natsu thought he could kill Zeref because of power alone. END can kill Zeref with power, Fairy Heart can kill Zeref through nothing but power. Its clear that immortality, like any other hax, can be overcome with power.

Zeref survived an attack of this scale.

Any other person from Ishgar would have been vaporised by that single attack.
So? I could pull out a dozen attacks of a larger scale. As for the potency, sure its probably one of the stronger attacks in the series, but Zeref has an immortal body, so he's almost invincible.

And as it was the power of dead immortality doesn't protect one from it.He survived that attack with pure durability alone.

Pure durability? No, i dont think so. Immortality is the only reason he didnt get killed from the first attack. Immortality makes him almost unkillable, but give anyone enough power and it can overcome that immortality, not bypass it, and thats what IgNatsu's power was doing.

Why does time matter? Power of the dead inflicted those wounds, by your logic his immortality shouldnt be able to heal them.

You forget that before the panel you just showed Natsu was completely blitzing Zeref and kicking his ass with ease? That zoomed out panel was likely Zeref using his immortality to tank Natsu's attacks and then retaliating when he saw an opening, just like what happened in their opening skirmish. The fight was a stalemate because Natsu was losing Igneel's power, just attacking with FDK mode was draining him far more than any attack Zeref landed.

Oneshotting Larcade isnt even a WSD Sting tier feat. Larcade was battered and broken. He literally had to crawl across the street just to get to Zeref, Droy could oneshot that guy.
So now Jacob can go on toe with IgNatsu in physical fight :).So he is the strongest Spriggan i guess.Because in a way you are suggesting that Jacob is a better physical fighter than Zeref which is clearly not the case as seen in the above picture.
No, he'd die from the first strike because he isnt immortal. But yes, he is a FAR superior combatant, at least physically. here is the difference.
The only thing Zeref has done to Natsu so far is that one bloody kick, Jacob on the other hand was taking it to him with ease.
Gray wasnt killed, so no strength is unleashed. Plus it was pretty clear he was talking about unleashing END, not Natsu's strength.

That aside, we already know for a fact that Natsu isnt fighting any better against Zeref than he was against Jacob, because the guild hall has yet to be incinerated or even messed up to a degree that an hour of cleaning wouldnt fix. Jacob is simply on another level when it comes to CQC, maybe Zeref is better when he's using his signature magic like when he killed Hades, but the guy who's getting his ass kicked right now, quite clearly isnt much of a physical fighter.

@Seven777 Jacob here is going all out while Zeref is actually holding back. He was able to damage IgNatsu by casual spell. Now he is very contradicted he said you destroy me i destroy you, It's clear from a reader POV that he is confused to kill or not to kill Natsu.
You can't compare Jacob and Zeref. Every chapter the fight is getting more serious that's all

And END is Natsus power too. He just don't use it maybe because he never use it and requires training not to mention that he don't like to be an Etherious that doesn't mean it belong to another character. You're assuming that END is different or something.

Yes, but from what im seeing Zeref holding back means not using his actual spells, not that his punches suddenly become weaker or slower. He is clearly still playing around with Natsu, imo he is enjoying the fight so much that he's drawing it out by making it a physical battle. The kind of battle that Natsu excels at, but Zeref doesnt. His skill and knowledge of magic may be great, but from the looks of it calling Zeref's martial skill sub-par is still being generous.

1)END was never stated outright that he is able to kill Zeref. He may not be a failed experiment like Tartaros Demons and may be able to defeat Zeref but kill?No evidence in the Manga as of now.Again there is no evidence that FH can kill Zeref in the Manga.

2)Remember Cell and Majin-Buu in DBZ.They used to regenerate even after being destroyed completely. But when Gohan used a strong attack Cell was killed.Same is here. The power of the dead allows one to kill an immortal but if the power of dead isn't strong enough it will not be able to do so.That's why Zeref survived the first attack. You may say his Curse increased his durability but he was durable enough to survive that first attack.Though the second attack would have killed him. That's why i brought Makarov.Suppose if Makarov had given the power of the Dead it would not have killed Zeref because it would not hace been strong enough to kill Zeref. And that is why the official translation mentions second attack would have killed Zeref not the first one.

3)Look at the bottom panel of this page

Do you see these "Bam" "Bam" "Bam" words there? This is what Mangakas draw to potray pure physical fight. And Zeref had enough physical attacks to go on fighting with IgNatsu. And when realised that the power of Dead may kill him,he gave up resistance.

3)And there is no proof that Zeref was talking about releasing END.In this arc not once did Zeref try to release END except for making that hole in The Book of END.In Tenrou Arc also Zeref was hoping Natsu will kill him.He gave Natsu to Igneel so that Natsu becomes strong enough to kill him.

1) Never outright stated sure, but its what he's been hyped for. Not being a failure means being able to kill Zeref, the dude doesnt want to be defeated, he wants to be killed.
Invel and even Zeref himself implied that if Mavis used Fairy Heart she'd be able to kill both of them.
Zeref even acknowledged the small possibility of Gray killing him, his immortality is far from absolute.

2) Good point, but that kinda backs up my claim doesnt it? Eradicate Zeref entirely and he'll die, it all comes down to power.

3) Sure, and the "bam" could be Natsu's physical fist colliding with Zeref's physical face. And almost certainly was if you look at how hard Zeref was getting his ass kicked moments before. Like i said, Zeref was likely using his immortality to his advantage by enduring Natsu's attacks and taking advantage of any openings in-between.

4) Even if he wasnt trying to unleash END, no proof that Natsu's full power is anything more than what we've seen, in fact reading over the chapter, it just looks like he wants to fight a "serious" Natsu, not a "boosted" Natsu. The fact that Zeref acknowledged that Natsu no longer stood a chance against him means that Zeref doesnt want Natsu's full power because he thinks it'll kill him, he just wants one last all out fight with his bro for the lols.

Natsu is fighting Zeref at the same level he was fighting Jacob, lower if you count the FDK portion of his fight with Jacob. CQC just isnt something Zeref excels in, i dont know why people find that so hard to believe. He certainly doesnt look like much of a fighter, pretty clear that "magic" is where his skills are really at.

Well in any fight in the beginning one combatant may be dominated. Before that physical fight Zeref actually got back and injured Natsu. And he then collided his fists against IgNatsu. And it's clear that when Zeref and Natsu stopped fighting their physical fight Zeref didn't look he was dominated at this part of fighting.

Didnt "look" dominated when he was actually getting dominated in the first part either. He's immortal, getting his ass kicked shouldnt really faze him. He was the one getting pushed back though as you can see when the clash ends and the panels zoom back in.
Natsu was having more trouble maintaining Igneel's power while burdened by FDK mode, than he was when getting attacked by Zeref. The real struggle was with the limited amount of power Igneel left him, not with anything Zeref actually fought him with.

That's a mistake.Zeref himself mentioned he was "valuing life" at that time so he couldn't fight well.Hades was shocked on learning that. After that when he forgot the value of life he one shotted Hades.

Show me panels don't remember him saying that. Also he oneshotted a weaken injure hades who didn't have his heart. Not impressive

Gildarts never said he didn't know if he could win, all he sayd is that he would be a good fight, even then the same could apply Jellal and Laxus. Not to mention Serena's feats aren't better than Laxus' stop it, Serena took out the 4 chumps or Ishgar while Laxus took out a Spirggan, one of Serena's peers and the same applies for Jellal.

Gildarts is resisting Jack SHIT. Not everyone was affected by the AoE pleasure hence why Cana was fine while Gildarts was floored while Frosch was affected by the pleasure tentacles but he was saved by Kagura. Gildarts succumbs to the pleasure magic let alone Serena's other two magics.
Serena = Tanked 4GOI strongest attack and raped them in base form, Historia Serena raped Team Natsu.
Jellal = K.O by Neinhart attack,
Laxus = Win against a mid tier Spriggan with extreme difficulty.
4GOI reunited strongest attack > Neinhart attack
GOI are low tier Spriggan lvl = Neinhart

Eileen and Zeref was affected by pleasure, that would be say Rahkeid > Eilleen & Zeref ? no.
Enraged Gildarts can easily resist at pleasure
Frosch was affected by hungry but he has resisted, do you know how weak is Frosch ?

New poll has been added. It's Kagura this time.

Here is the result of the God Serena poll

Surprised my poll survived so long xD, but gotta say, it's really hard to get a feel of Kagura's power this arc because she's been put up against such haxy opponents.

Surprised my poll survived so long xD, but gotta say, it's really hard to get a feel of Kagura's power this arc because she's been put up against such haxy opponents.
Oh that's right, it was your poll. Had a lot of participants :) Feels so long ago when the hype for the S12 ruled these threads...

Yes it's a difficult choice I must say. Kagura faced tough opponents, and achieved nothing much. So it's an interesting poll thanks to @Clara
