Dr. Stone continues the same average thing... The bad guy there turned bad too suddenly without any background... Why he has the desire to kill people so much like that and make a society of chosen? He has some pathological condition (only explanation possible right now since there is no background)? The other characters doesn't appeal to me either for a number of reasons, the "Big Oaf" (don't remember his name XD) guy... The author is trying to make a bad replica of Luffy? Luffy is dumb, but it is a fun dumb person and he has his moments of intelligence, the "Big Oaf" on the other hand.... He is right where he should be: in a pre-historic environment. XD

Gonna read "We Never Learn" tomorrow.

Actually, it's more of a post-apocalyptic environment than pre-historic, but I understand your point. So far, none of these characters have much of a drive to do what they're doing. It seems like Inagaki himself doesn't even know what he's trying to accomplish. None of the characters are likable, the plot with the edgelord is making little sense, and the action scenes are both lacking and lackluster. Honestly hoping this gets axed at this point.

Oh, I forgot about the scene where the guy there catches a arrow in mid-air... Man, these superpower abilities these characters are getting are off the chart. First the regenerative abilities of "Big Oaf" for regenerating his leg and now this? Take a lion barehanded was already forced... These guys are supposed to be normal high school guys? XD

As its turning out at this point, Dr. Stone is basically going for that old fashioned shonen manga with hod-blooded action between manly characters with science thrown in for good measure. The problem however is that in the current state of the manga, the characters just aren't fleshed out beyond their introductory appearances. Tsukasa seemed like he had something going on with that small hint of a troubled family background, or something along those lines, but his blatant destruction of older people hasn't really been justified beyond just "if you resurrect them, you run the chance of them taking advantage of kids and making the world that unfair place again". This is actually an interesting idea in Shonen manga and makes for some nice good old fashioned clash of ideals akin to Naruto vs Sasuke. As much as you might not like it, its still a classic shonen idea that gets your blood boiling, a key aspect of shonen manga. Dr. Stone though is just rushing too quickly. I know that the axe basically looms over them but at least give the characters more emotional development. They're teenagers in a post apocalyptic world without their family. That's a goldmine for emotional development.

My blood is anything but boiling right now. I have no problem with this kind of plot if well made.

I enjoy Dr.Stone. It's not perfect but it has a certain charm imo. I like the art and personally I enjoy the characters, though I can understand some complaints. I don't think they're great characters, but I'm interested in them enough to see them and their adventures grow.

I'd love to see Dr.Stone stay. But at the same time if it got axed I wouldn't be too hurt by it.

So far I've understoood was the story about the boy who wanted to give his sister a necklace of shells a first step to show his personality & world view. Adults are mean & corrupted & this new world shall belong to the children, yadda yadda. Of course, I understand what your point is, because I have a similiar reaction to Dr.Stone.
I am mostly indifferent to it. Neither the comedy nor the characters are my taste so far. But I DO know people who enjoy this series so far, who like the gags & jokes wholeheartedly and are more curious & interested about Tsukasa so far. Though I need to add that these guys are also fans of Eyeshield 21, making them fans of this particular way of comedy & characterization already.
And I want to add to this, that the manga isnt even 10 chapters long & a lot of time was used to explain the setting & its "science", in contrast the characters themselves, I wouldnt say bad, work in the story, because we can get them enough to understand their actions.
Also, one issue of the manga is, that Taiju, the big oaf, exists for labour, which happens mostly off-screen. Compared to Senkuu who can show off his ridiculous intelligence all the time, we really dont see Taijus capabilities, therefore making him look rather useless(though he is definitely very important for the survival of the characters so far).
I also dont mind these extreme... powers, I presume to call them. Meaning, Senkuu's laughable action to count for thousand of years or Tsukasas strength to beat lions. It's THAT kind of manga, the mangaka seemingly wants it ridiculous. It's not my taste, either, but I also dont mind this. It just make me simply care less about Dr.Stone altogether.

Btw, one problem for me for this manga so far, is the "look" of the maincharacters-
On the colorpage & first chapter they've looked older compared the latest chapters: Less refined bodies, more child-like overall. I guess, it's because the mangaka invests so much time in the environment that he doesnt have that much time left for the maincharacters, and the latest chapters were mostly dominanted by comedic scenes, therefore making them look more childish/goofy would make sense, but dunno. I know, it's more nitpicking, but I guess, is another reason why I am not a big fan of this series.

So Beelzebub was all setup no payoff?
Depending on what you were reading it for. If you were reading it for the plot and comedy than yes there is no payoff but if you were reading it for a select few characters than you got something I guess.

The only "mecha manga" I heard about in last couple of months was Robot x Laserbeam which people assumed was something mecha before details came out. XD

I think I read here that that new Level 5 mecha game was going to have a manga in the Jump magazine, maybe I misread.

I miss a good mecha manga, Jump haven't gotten anything more than Mazinger Z. That and a good adventure manga, like One Piece in the beginning.

Collaboration has a broad meaning and doesn't necessarily means serialization, even more when you are talking about Jump.

The thing I most like of Hungry Marie is Tamura trying to make the oposite of Beelzebub and improve his fault.
HM is more structured and have a better plot than Beel also his fight look better, but the mainly problem is mainly the humor (and still have nice moment).
I feel he is the only of the 4 returned author (I count WNL although was in jump+) who is taking seriously serialized again and trying to improve.

I think Mecha manga is a big enough genre to cycle around again in popularity. It's kind of like how I'm hoping that KnY's fledgling popularity is an indication that there may be a mini revival of historical stories with heart and a touch of sadness, like rurouni kenshin in the 90s.

I don't know much about Samurai series, having only heard of the super old "lone wolf and cub" which was 80% dark and depressing, whilst gintama is 70% rainbows and laughter. So as far as I know, we haven't had a swordsman based manga that straddles comedy and tragedy like kimetsu in quite a while.

Man I really like KnY, it has a sense of melancholy I've only really seen done well in manga for older people, without being too depressing. It reminds me a little of spirit circle, in which tragedy is touched on, and yet the overall tone is bright and positive.

And yes, I did turn a Mecha answer into a promotion for KnY. It's not perfect, but I think everyone should give it a try to see if its tone is your thing.

@ChocoBar9 it's funny, I'm literally reading Yugioh this week and it's so good, hearing you and others say the final arc is great I'll probably binge the rest today to get to it lol. I watched every episode all the way through GX and stopped cause it was getting dumb after GX but reading the manga I find it wild to see how many suggestive scenes are in the manga. Like they have guns, knifes, blood, talk of gangs, Kaiba legit trying to kill people, Tea panty shots and boob gropes... I can't believe this stuff is for kids. Kinda opens your eyes when you watched the censored version all your life

Haven't read Dr. Stone since Tsukasa's stating his goal, it's getting dry for me too for the same reasons you guys have stated. Senkuu is the best overall character and most entertaining, but the others just really aren't. Don't dislike it at all, the concept is great, just putting it on hold and will probably run through it when more chapters build up. After WNL's recent chapter I think this will be the series to stick the longest, it's nothing special and no one in particular stands out like Nisekoi did, but it's generally fun to read. The girls' dynamic with Nari is pretty fun to watch

The mecha thing is from Level 5, so expect the launch to be delayed a bit. Can't take away from The Snack World hype

Speaking of mecha, I hope my unrequited love, Zippo, gets serialized. I adore Yusaku Shibata's art and passion.

I believe our perception of "for kids" is what makes it seem like guns, gangs, etc wouldn't really fit shonen manga too much. The way I see it, as long as you don't put actual sex in the story and suggest it as much as possible anything pretty much goes, although the parents will howl. A lot of what you said in Yugioh is actually pretty tame. Hell in Stone right now, Tsukasa is flat out killing people, even though they're in stone form. Neverland has a human "farm".
