It really is dumb luck though. If you aren't stacking, and you can't all the time, you're more than likely getting stuck with a crappy team and lose your placements.

No I was placed top silver at the end of season 4. And because I had been playing more statisticaly I did better individualy as well as getting more wins than losses in the placements. I don't like how my SR didn't reflect the fact that I did better than the end of S4.
Yeah but how much did you play with a party in season 4? Did your placements actually go that much better than last seasons? Stats might have improved but I think it's logical that record is weighed higher than that still. But even so, you're still at the mercy of the system for who you play with and against as well. Outliers exist, most of these systems are rough approximation. If you play enough you usually end up where you belong, unless OW is somehow total shit at this kind of thing.

I did party up for some of the placements in season 4, but I won more of my placements this season.

How many did you win last season? Did you party up this year as well?

Reading into this a bit, your current SR this season is practically identical to where you ended up prior to placements. Not saying there's no bad luck involved, but I think you're expecting too much out of a 6-4 record. You can't fall out of Silver, but you had Bronze SR at the end of last season, that's what matters, not where you were placed last season or your season high. In theory, you should have mostly come up against high bronze/low silver players in your placements. Your wins could have also been worth less because you beat underdogs and your losses could have been worth more because you lost to underdogs. It's quite the crap shoot. But if you go by SR, your 6-4 record did technically place you higher than where you ended last season, I guess ....even if it was only 24 points. :oh

I could be wrong though, not like I know much about the intricacies of OW's system. But I definitely have experience with placements in LoL, and I've seen way worse results. :lmao But of course, there's a soft reset involved there (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially when the season takes up most of a calendar year).

I can imagine that being a carwash company.

No. That's a random portuguese that carried us during the placements '-'
I was the one with the carry pants on :hmph I was totally on fire that day and overperformed, hitting shots I usually didn't, 50+kills and 35k+ damage each game and that sweet hexakill.

Got my rank today: silver @.@ sugoi
That's weird, you won more games on your placements than I did for sure.
Where was hardy placed?

And the difference between you two was only one game? wtf. All placements are just legit dumb luck, I guess.
No, the placement system is weird. I won less games than Farf but was placed on the exact same SR as nona, mid-high gold. I also heard stories of people winning all their placement matches and ending up on bronze.

I think the whole thing can be wonky because of the 1000 SR window groups are allowed to have. And wins and losses being weighed against the average SR of the enemy team's. Win against people "lower" than you? Less gained. Lose against people "higher" than you? Less lost; and the same in reverse. What I don't know is how the system handles people who have no previous rankings. Is it then even more random because there's no competitive MMR to base it off of? Don't know, but that sort of thing could account for the wide variance sometimes.

I think they use some hidden stats from quickplay, but maybe not since you could technically only play arcade until lvl25. I played a lot more arcade than I did quickplay and started ranked as soon as I hit 25. Had 5-5 at the end and I was constantly put against gold/plat, sometimes even diamond. 3 of the wins and losses were total stomps, 2 of both were hard close games iirc.

Wut? I don't remember Quickplay having a level requirement, only competitive. I also mainly played Arcade as well, but I guess that coincided with loot resets and the like. Also isn't a terrible way to try out stuff, I guess.

I don't see how it makes sense for a level 25 player to have plat or diamonds in their placements. Gold can at least make sense if you use some sort of average bronze baseline or something, since a 1000 SR and 2000 SR player is allowed to queue together. LoL would use mid/high Bronze, add it with your previous season's MMR and divide it in two. If you had no previous MMR, then they would just use mid/high Bronze as the starting point for your placements. This way you couldn't be placed higher than Platinum, regardless of how well you did. But that is a soft reset, and I don't think OW has one of those. So the only reason Plats or Diamonds would be in your placements is a bug or they use some sort of hidden MMR from quickplay, which is kinda stupid.

Could be, but I feel useless on him. I sometimes watch other people play him and they're glued to walls, wrecking people, being everywhere at once it seems. When I play him it's rather cringe. :lmao
Ah, same, can't boop at all for example, makes me feel retarded since I get booped all the time.

Ah, he was a great tank, you're a great DPS, different roles, and maybe I got carried away by his elo in my impressions, yeah.

Gold, 2082 sr.

I didn't say quickplay had a level requirement? I said you could level to 25(requirement for ranked) by only playing arcade so it could never gather any stats from quickplay.

It's very unfair since most of the enemy team were always having at least one star(100+), often even more stars or even a silver outline..
But apart from it being unfair to new players(and those matched with you), I can imagine why they do this. Perhaps that's how they test for smurfs?

I'm not sure what the highest point to be placed in is, in dota it's impossible to get ranked over 4k-something which would be the equivalent of platinum in overwatch maybe?

Yeah I guess different roles, he did play a great Reinhardt iirc.

And what? How can he get 2082? I really don't get why I get placed over all of you, this is weird.

Ah, got confused by your wording.

I have no idea honestly. Apparently you can have more than one account on consoles, but PC smurfs are locked behind that paywall. Still sort of surprises me to see so fucking many of them lately, but maybe the game being half off isn't a coincidence.

No clue either, especially if it can be based on hidden MMR or not at all, depending on what mode the person plays to level. I guess there could be an system to detect Win Percentage, KDA, Accuracy, etc. But that could muddle it up even more. Don't see how it could be beneficial to take any data from Arcade modes, so it has to be QP.

Yeah, for whatever reason I tend to pick any healer other than him when I find myself in a situation where healing is needed (less and less because I took Tina's advice and care about as much as anyone else about meta/comp in QP).

Dunno Gry, as Reaper you often gets the DMG, kills and objective kills Gold medals and maybe those weight a lot.

Maybe if Gary joins us with McCree you'll have a bigger challenge to keep those medals '-' #triggeringrivalry

Maybe the secret to it is to play DD yeah, but that'd be a really bad system then.
Sure gary should try to join us sometimes.

While I've played a lot of McCree lately, I think I'd still put Solider above him in my preferred list for being a tryhard. He's at least more reliable. Some games I can pop off on McCree, other games it feels like I'm completely useless.
