I never thought Seiya was big enough to get on the cover like this. Like sure it was popular, but there are a lot of 80s series that performed much better than it. I wonder what influenced their decision on what series to put on this week and next?

That drawing of Shinsou should be bigger. In fact, the whole page should just be Shinsou. 0/10. Seriously though, that colour spread is stunning!

What the hell is going on with Noelle in that color page? Geez, it seriously looks like her right breast is gonna pop out.

Yami looks great though, but I don't remember him being so dark. Looks more Spanish than Japanese to me, but oh well.

Looks like Horikoshi didn't go for digital coloring this time round. Not too bad.

Oda is better because he's allowed free reign without any consequence. He has no constraints or worries at all when it comes to making a concise story.
True but you do realize that Oda did not have this freedom from the start, right? He earned it after how well his series was received and how it became the magazines top selling name consistently for years and years right from the start. Unfortunately, Toriko (though it had great potential) did not receive that reception nor sales.

I get what he's saying from a later post, because OP is so huge that they just give Oda free reign.
But tbh, Oda probably actually had this free reign from the early, because iirc OP was a massive hit right out the gate unlike Toriko

I also get what he meant but I honestly doubt Oda would have been given the freedom everyone is referring to right at the start. WSJ would just not do that unless it was an already accomplished mangaka who has had big successes before like Togashi.

But One Piece has sales beyond Yu Yu Hakusho and HXH could embrace it.
I don't know in which part you mean Oda is not success compared to Togashiro.

Yeah it's way too early to judge the animation for BC, it's Studio Clown and they're ass at consistent animation. The PV looks great however. Also the MHA color spread reminds me of the one Hori did for what, the 1 year anniversary? I think that was intentional though. New characters I'm starting to get attached to from this arc are Nejire, Overhaul, and Suneater.

Aren't most PV's pre-animated before the actual series? They're supposed to showcase the best of a series to get people to watch it. Generally means jack squat about what the actual animation will be like. Saying that, it was certainly a good PV though.

Some of them, yeah.
But it's not like all the episodes will be like the CM. In-house ones should be great given the director, but as every Pierrot series it'll have plenty of outsourced ones.

I'm not expecting the entire Black Clover series to look like that. But I think Pierrot will do a good job with it overall

I think like with everything, there will be episodes animated poorly but overall it will be consistent and good.

I meant, WSJ wouldn't give the creative freedom to a newcomer (at that time) like Oda as opposed to how they'd give to a veteran who already had a huge successful series like Togashi.
My point was when Oda started out with One Piece, I'm pretty sure he worked hard with as much or little creative freedom as any newcomer would have received. Therefore, saying One Piece's world is more expansive and detailed than something like Toriko's simply because Oda was given the freedom for it is wrong as that statement overlooks how hard Oda would have worked for years to have finally earned that freedom.

I don't think leo understood my point, so allow me to reiterate. I'm not saying One Piece doesn't deserve it's success. I'm saying because of it's success, Oda is given complete control over what he's allowed to write, and for how long he's allowed to write it. No one is pressuring Oda to hurry AT ALL. If he wanted to write 100 chapters on a side character on an island completely unrelated to the current plot HE COULD and no one would say anything to him.

Other mangaka are not allowed that sort of artistic freedom. Shima had to make sacrifices left and right in his story, like having to completely skip out on showing the acquisition on some of Acacia's Full Course dishes, all so he could fit the conclusion of the series in X amount of chapters. Jump gave him a deadline. No one gives Oda deadlines EVER.

So while it's true that One Piece has the best world building of any manga, just remember that Oda is allowed to fully flesh out his world to a degree that other mangaka would not be able to. It's the best because it's allowed to be the best.
You didn't understand my point and you are inverting the order of things. Let's try again. He is allowed to do what you said because he earned the respect of the editorial body, they know that his decisions are 99% right, he is a genius, it is not only because he sells 2 million.

And you are inverting things, One Piece is not the best because it is allowed to be the best, it was the best first, before allowing to be even better. Maybe it is because it was 20 years ago, but you know that Oda was a rookie and One Piece is still his first series, right? He started like any other mangaka in Jump, One Piece didn't started selling 2 million right of the bat. The series didn't become good after One Piece started to sell 2 million and Oda earned more freedom, it was good since the beginning and got popular because of that, so your last phrase is simply wrong. Oda felt the pressure for some time before Shueisha realizes that they were dealing with someone otherworldly special. Now he probably doesn't feel the pressure from the editorial department he is the greatest of all time and Shueisha wants it to run as much as possible, this is just normal and I think it was the same with very popular series like Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk and so forth. However, Oda feels the pressure coming from himself because he is not allowing his series to decrease in quality because he is who he is. Even if it was bad, the series would continue running because Shueisha would like to, but it is good and it is good because of Oda continuous search for perfection.

So, the only explanation for me that you think it is unfair the difference in treatment is that you think Shimabukuro is as good as Oda (something that even Shimabukuro doesn't think he is) and that Toriko would have had a success comparable with One Piece. This complain should be directed to Japanese readers, maybe, but I think the readers are not in the wrong here. Toriko was good, very good at the beginning, I liked it a lot, but it went through the same thing every series, except One Piece, go through, the quality decreased a lot and the readers are not that forgiving.

Alright, I'm done explaining myself. Leo clearly doesn't understand what I'm arguing and is in full hyper-defense mode with Oda/OP.

Hopefully someone else with more patience is willing to explain it better to you.
