Was the EiC basically declaring his intentions to move away from battle shonen into more diverse genres? The Last 3 years would def be understandable

I'm probably a minority here, but I like the sound of the for me personally as long as they don't replace battle manga with a ton of sports series. But from thinking about the good of the magazine as a whole, I wonder how that could impact the total sales since a popular battle manga tends to have a higher maximum sales potential than most other genres.

Finally done catching up, literally went through like 20 pages. After assessing all the comments on promotion and boosts and stuff I gotta admit something: I'm legitimately starting to think Neverland is overrated and while KnY, a series I never would of heard of without this thread, might be underrated. Iceemperor's post really convinced me on this, shit just made too much sense.
I wouldn't say Neverland is overrated, but I will say it is over-hyped probably, to such a degree it might end up causing unrealistic expectations for people that get into the manga, which is unfortunate to an extent. And Kimetsu is pretty much the opposite, it has no hype behind it, people from Western communities tend to ignore it and will probably continue to do so until an anime pops up and the series might still remain unnoticed if the anime ends up being shit, which would be pretty sad. For the most part I'm referring the perception of the two from non-Japanese readers. Glad you ended up checking out KnY, as a more dedicated fan of the series it makes me happy when more people try the series out based off of some shout-outs the manga gets here and there from some bigger fans.

Neverland falls into the same category of "mystery box" media that are all the range nowadays where people are more interested in the setting than the actual characterization and writing which eludes people into believing they're reading something that's more profound that what it actually is. This does not make it bad mind you but yeah its praise moreso centered around people who don't like Shounen Jump manga. KnY is definitely underrated and I feel that with an anime the series will still not get the mass appeal it deserves mainly because its a shounen series that follows the shounen formula its like how it doesn't matter how much people will praise MHA some people will just not like it because its unapologetically a shounen manga with no sort of deconstruction or anything and Kimetsu is exactly like it hence why it reminds me so much of classic gekiga manga from the 60's and 70's which may not appeal to modern audiences.
With Kimetsu, I kind of agree that even with an anime it probably won't reach huge popularity levels(in the West) or anything, but if the anime is amazing and very well made it will help a lot, it can make the series take off more than you would expect because it is a manga from WSJ after all. If the anime is an unfortunate victim of Toei or Pierrot or a low effort crappy adaptation you can bet no one ever give a damn about Kimetsu on the Western side in the long run, maybe things could go well even in those circumstances if the adaptation was only two cours long and not over fucking 50 episodes or some shit like that. I also agree that it might not appeal to people because it has such a classic and simple demon slaying style, but the simplicity can draw in people in my eyes, it might even end up being a thing in Kimetsu's advantage since the series actually excels at simplicity and minimalism in my opinion. It might even help get more people into this whole relatively common demon slaying genre, I mean, heck the name Viz went for when they licensed the series was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba which, it doesn't really imply anything overly complicated.

I don't remember seeing that, but funnily enough that's what's been happening in the magazine lately, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I did point out that for example from 2014 onwards there are so many wanna be action battle shounen series that simply didn't survive because they didn't have what it takes. Since 2014 only 3 action battle shounen series managed to stick around while probably 10-20 others died and this trend will probably continue, WSJ is one of the harshest places when it comes to starting out an action based battle shounen manga.

Nah I don’t read KnY, I was just referring to sales. I’ll just pull a Black Clover and try the anime if it ever gets one.

Finished reading Hoishin Engi for the 3rd time. From the PV + Character designs + Studio alone i can say couple things without spoiling the plots

This reboot adaption is either Hunter x Hunter 2018 in term of length and storyline OR Why even do a reboot in the first place if you are going to skip so much scenes.

Bad decision making is mastered art form when it comes to things like this in Japan it seems, it would be incredibly dumb if it gets a remake after the first anime was terrible and then remake the show after 15 years and just shit on the source material all over again. The thing is, the author of Shamn King did refuse to have a remake made of his series so maybe Shueisha was like: "OK, what's the next option?" and they went for Hoishin Engi. I did say before, someone needs to look into what time slot the show airs in and what other things aired in that slot so we can get an idea of what to expect potentially. Hopefully it is a good adaptation, how many episodes do you think it would need.

Can someone please explain to me what's the deal with Jump Giga? What is exactly the point of this magazine, is it the place to cultivate new talent or something like that?

BanzaiMag posted it a couple pages back:

But the EiC changed though right? So it's the new one that wants more variety?
He actually wants more battle manga from what I’ve read of that, but overall people are making less of that and more of other kinds of manga.

It may be like Ushio and Tora, where the author chose what to adapt for a 3-cour anime despite the manga being very long, or it could have multiple cours/seasons planned.
It could also get the rushed and butchered YJ treatment, but hopefully not. Either way I'm unsure if the series will be long-running considering the studio, but since the only additional anime they're doing are Yuru Camp in Winter, the Starmyu OVA later this year and the 3rd season of it in 2019, they don't seem to have too much work besides stuff in Winter. Could be a long-term commitment.
Looked into the Hoshin Engi promotion more btw and saw a 50th anniversary Jump figure in the recent issue of WSJ planned, but most promotion is going toward female-aimed anime mags.

I guess you have a point and this is what I found it the wikia page it had.

"Jump GIGA or Shonen Jump GIGA, formerly Shonen Jump NEXT!! is a monthly sister magazine to Weekly Shonen Jump. The magazine publishes spin offs from Weekly Shonen Jump and other manga. It launched in July 2016.[1]

Jump GIGA will relaunch in Spring 2017 with an entirely new lineup."

Does he have one of those fangs they give to some characters, or is that just my eyes.

He looks like he wants to be the best of something and will either scream or cry the whole time. And what the fuck is that hand holding the gatling gun? The way it's drawn makes it look like he has no thumb on his right hand.
