Gintama isn't bigger than Naruto but Gintama is definitely one of the most important manga of Shounen Jump in history.
As expected, next issue's cover/lead CP for WNL marks its 1st anniversary, with the start of its 1st popularity poll.次号は…祝!!連載1周年突破記念表紙&巻頭カラーでお届け!!

That's Horikoshi recommending his master's (Tanaka Yasuki) new manga in Jump+. He's really just saying "Master (Shisho), This is fantastic! When does volume 2 come out?!!".We got Horikoshi recommending manga now? Cool lol
Yeah, Dr. Slump is definitely something I forgot. But then Gintama has more total sales overall, you know, the argument that some were bringing in.Dr. Slump?
Not the point though. Anime is what becomes the driving push 99% of manga needs for it to become a full blown franchise. Merchandise and whatnot do not appear in the amounts they do before the anime. Very few ever do so well before the anime.SnK was already selling 700-800k prior to the anime.
Yeah, I guess? Maybe not filthy rich but definitely above the average pay scale I'd say. Also, I don't think the royalties changes for veterans. What changes for them would be the amount they earn per page from the magazine. Are the majority of WSJ mangaka millionaire in term of income if their printed copies in the million+?
There was a post i read a while back (posted on 2013) saying that a mangaka need to to have at least 125,000 copies printed (since mangaka is royalty is paid based on print) to be at the average salaryman salary in Japan (125,000 * 400 yen * 10% royalties (might be higher for veterans) ) = 5 million yen = 45000 USD (salary man salary average 40,000 to 100,000). Thit isn't include contract for drawing in WSJs.
2~3 recent known number
Yuragi volume 8 has 1.5 million copies printed (so 2 years~ time) 750,000 copies/year
TPN has 2.2 million copies printed (~1.5 years time)
Kimetsu 1.5 million copies printed(?)
so these 4 mangaka are millionaire in term of their income?
Next round? Maybe a month or two, but I think it will come down to when Gintama ends potentially. Jump know for sure what is ending and you bet they're preparing something and that they are in talks with other authors.Regarding the Gintama ending, it was obvious it wouldnt end with this chapter, i would of been impossible for the Gorilla to wrap up everything in just one chapter
It still might be to soon to be thinking about it, but when do you think the next serialization round will happen? Given that Full Drive and Golem Hearts are flopping, Jump must already be thinking about their replacements
Logicaly #669 (05/02) will be the 3rd of 74th volume no? So if this volume is the last volume and get 10 chapters, serie will end 26/03.Given how Bleach ended so abruptly, I don't rule out anything with Jump.
Usually a series ends like RIGHT after the final boss is beaten because there's no way to "top it".
But with this week's chapter it's starting some new stuff for what seems like a sorta denoument arc.
